THE PAIN OF A LONELY HEART
EPISODE 7
“Hey James, what are you doing?’ Ben said from Juliet’s entrance. He
had returned. He had come to check on Juliet as he usually would… He
hadn’t expected to find James hovering over her.James c@m£ back to
himself and quic-kly found a lie to tell.
“She has been drinking Ben” James said, trying to change the subject.
“What!! you can’t be serious. Juliet doesn’t do alcohol” Ben said.
“See for yourself.” James told Ben and quic-kly went out from the room
before he could suspect anything.
Ben went close to Juliet and realized that there was indeed something
different about her that morning. He took a long look at her as she
la-id in be-d unconscious. He tried waking her up severally but to no
avail. He was beginning to get worried. It was not until he splashed
water on her that she responded.
When Juliet woke up, she saw Ben staring at her. She had a nas-ty
headache and held on to her head in pain. Ben noticed and quic-kly went
to get her some aspirin to help calm down the pain. Once she was done
taking the pills, Ben asked “But Juliet, what has come over you? When
did you start taking alcohol?”
Juliet told him she had not taken any alcohol but this time, Ben found
it difficult to believe her. That worried Juliet. She was still trying
to figure out how to break news of the r@p£ incident to him and other
members of the family.
It didn’t help her case that she never actually saw the ra-pist neither
did she see how he entered or exited from the house. There was no sign
of f0rç£d entry. In fact, there was no evidence to prove that she had
been R@p£d. So if Ben was having trouble believing that she had not
taken alcohol, what chance was there that anyone would believe a r@p£
report with absolutely no evidence?
Meanwhile, James couldn’t get over what he had felt when he carried
Juliet to her room. In just a short time, he had developed a strong
lvstful de-sire for his adopted sister. As a man who never gave up, he
vowed to himself that he would satisfy his lvst at all cost. Even if
it meant him being nice to Juliet.This was really not his first time…
Back in the United States, he was known to chase pretty much anything
in Sk-irt.
His current girlfriend who loved him very much was based in Ghana.
James had been d@t!ngher for the past 5 years even though he did not
love her. She was only his “S-x toy”. Because he dutifully showered
money on her, his girlfriend, Nancy, actually thought that James loved
her. As a matter of fact, “LOVE” was not in his dictionary. The only
thing that had kept their relationsh!pthat long was that the fact
that Nancy was very possessive and was not re-ady to let go of James.
Right now, James’s next project was Juliet and he intended to take
that very seriously. His attitude towards her immediately started to
change. Juliet, of course, was taken aback by James’ sudden change of
attitude. He was relating with like her as a brother should. His
attitude towards Juliet also gave Mrs. Johnson room to be a little
nicer to her.
Everything was returning to normal… Or so it seemed. Juliet, however,
was still battling with the trauma from the r@p£ incident. She was
waiting for the right moment to tell the family what really happened
to her that night she was left at home by herself.
One day, Mrs Johnson and Ben went out for a church meeting leaving
James and Juliet alone at home. James got some popcorn for them to
chew on as they sat and watched television together. There was a movie
on that both of them decided they wanted to see. As they watched, they
chatted and shared a laugh here and there. Several times, while Juliet
wasn’t looking, James would stare at her lvstfully. He felt he nee-ded
more time alone with her.
Meanwhile, Juliet who was feeling a bit tired soon fell asleep on the
sofa. James waited till he was sure the sleep was de-ep and then went
closer to her. He carefully started un-bu-ttoning her blouse… He had
successfully opened the first bu-tton, he was fiddling with the second
one when suddenly the houseboy opened the door leading to the living
room to let in his girlfriend Nancy.
James was not fast enough… Nancy took in the scene and immediately
knew what he had been trying to do with Juliet.

James was not fast enough… Nancy took in the scene and immediately
knew what he had been trying to do with Juliet. “So you are at it
again James! Nancy asked. Juliet woke up at the sound of her raised
voice. She didn’t notice that her bu-tton was opened.
“What’s going on?” Juliet asked. “Go to your room Juliet. Sorry for
disturbing you… We’ll talk later.” James said. Juliet didn’t hesitate,
she got up and went into her room. “Who is she? Nancy asked looking
very furious. “That’s my sister Nancy, calm down.” James said. “And
why didn’t you tell me you were coming here?” he asked.
“Must I tell you before coming to your house? Anyway, I’m here to
discuss something serious” Nancy said. “What is it? James asked.
“Well, I have missed my period.” She said. “Meaning? James asked.
“James, I am 2 months pregnant” Nancy revealed, looking exasperated.
“Look, why do you always get yourself pregnant and get me involved all
the time. Deal with it girl!” James responded angrily.
“I suppose the Holy Spirit descended on me and got me pregnant, right?
Listen to me carefully, I am not re-ady for another ab-ortion. You
better get re-ady to be a father or else the whole world will know
about this” Nancy cautioned him.
James found it funny. He said “Listen, you are going to get rid of
that baby, whether you like it or not”
“Oh really, watch me!” Nancy said and walked out on him. “Nancy,
Nancy, Hey Nancy! Come back here” James called but she completely
ignored him and went away.
James stood there lost in thought… He wondered what Nancy was up to.
She had never refused an ab-ortion before.
Rev. Johnson died a wealthy man and he left a lot of property behind.
But somehow, the family’s finances was fast dwindling.
Apparently, Mrs. Johnson had been spending a lot. She had alre-ady sold
two mansions from the property her husband left behind. As to what she
was spending her money on? That was a question without an answer.
Within just a few months, she had sold 3 cars and yet the return on
those sales didn’t seem to be showing.
Ben bec@m£ suspicious and wondered what his mother was doing with all
the money. As if that was not enough, money was being taken out of
the church’s coffers without any form of accountability. It was
obvious that Mrs.Johnson was behind this. The spending was becoming
too much and Ben decided to confront his mum. He asked her what was
really going on. The only answer she could come up with was that she
was ma-king an investment which required a hvge deposit. That was an
obvious lie.
One day, Ben found a N500,000 withdrawal on his mother’s cheque book.
He knew then that his mother was up to something. He bec@m£ very
determined to find out what was going on.
Meanwhile Juliet had a strange dream one night… She saw Rev. Johnson
standing on his grave, dressed in black suit with a white collar. He
was in tears. In the dream, he was trying to communicate with
Juliet…But she couldn’t hear him well. All she could hear was “It
wasn’t my time, it wasn’t my time” Out of fear, Juliet woke up with
goosebu-mps all over her b©dy. It was midnight and the house was
asleep. Everywhere was quiet. However, Juliet felt she was being
watched. She was overshadowed by fear and began shivering.
Coincidentally, she felt nauseous… Much as she tried to ignore it, she
couldn’t wave off the feelings.
Soon, she was running to the washroom to throw up. At that instant,
Juliet suspected she was pregnant.
What happened next?
EPISODE 9
She went closer to James’ door and pushed it opened. James was trying
to f0rç£ a k!sson Juliet, but from the position where Mrs. Johnson
stood, it’s Juliet’s back facing her, it looked as if she was the one
going for the k!ss. Because James had an advantage of seeing his
mother enter into his room, he quic-kly pushed Juliet away and started
pas-sing comments.
“St©p forcing yourself on me, how could you do this?” James shouted at
Juliet. All this while he was pretending he had not seen his mother
at the door. “what’s going on here? Mrs. Johnson said. “Mother, its
good you are here, i don’t know what has come over Juliet, she is all
over me” James lied. His mother was never opened minded, not only did
he trust James but he also doubled up as her favourite son.
“Oh so this is your plan to destroy this family right? Now tell me,
who does this belong to” Mrs. Johnson asked Juliet, showing her the
pregnancy test kit. Juliet got frightened with the look on Mrs.
Johnson’s face. She was in dilemma, this wasn’t the right moment to
tell her about the r@p£ case. She will definitely not believe her,
taking into consideration what had happened. James was accusing her
that she was forcing herself on him and now the pregnancy test kit was
another issue she has to clear. This was going to be a difficult one
for her. She nee-ded a helper, all she could think of was for God to
come to her aid.
She stood there as her words choked her up. Words bec@m£ heavy for her
to even say. Silence was the only option. Mrs. Johnson got closer to
her and asked her again “who does this kit belong to? Julieth are you
pregnant? She asked. Juliet stood there still silent. Tears began
running down her cheeks. Before she knew it Mrs. Johnson was quic-k
with her hands, she gave her heavy sl@p that even got James
sympathizing with her. Mrs. Johnson then gave the kits to her to go
and check right away to see if she was pregnant or not. She wanted to
be sure of Juliet’s status since she was not answering her.
Mrs Johnson followed her to the bathroom room, and stay behind the
door to ensure that she did the test. After some few minutes, Juliet
c@m£ out of the bathroom looking very sad. As soon as Mrs Johnson saw
her, she snatched the alre-ady used kit from her.
Two red lines indicated on the test kit. Juliet was confirmed
pregnant. “Juliet, you are pregnant!” Mrs Johnson said. “Mum, I can
explain, i… ” Juliet said but was interrupted. “I am not your mother,
how many times do i have to tell you that. Look, you better tell me
who is responsible for that thing in your wo-mb” Mrs. Johnson cautioned
her.
Meanwhile James was also anxiously waiting for them at the living room
when all of a sudden, Nancy c@m£ in crying. “Hey what are you doing
here, don’t you have the manners to call before coming” James asked.
“How could you James? you are the only guy I have ever known in my
entire life, how could you? Nancy who was in tears said.
James had no idea of what she was trying to say. “what are you talking
about Nancy?” James anxiously asked. Nancy handed a paper to him.
“what is this” James asked. “Can’t you see for yourself James, that’s
the result of a test i conducted at the hospital, James I am HIV
positive” She revealed. “What? What do you mean? Tell me this is a
joke” James asked. He couldn’t believe his ears. “James, you are the
only guy i have ever known. If it’s throu-gh S-x that i got infected,
then its from you” Nancy said…..
Hmmm…could this be true? Is juliet really pregnant, and if yes how
would She explain this to Mrs. Johnson?
