EPISODE 32

They all remained quiet as they waited for Kimberly to decide what she wanted, “Okay, I fear I might not be able to enjoy the game if I don’t get the business out of the way. Kat? Have you come to a decision yet?” Kimberly asked, looking at Kathleen expectantly. Everyone turned to look at Kathleen too since they were all aware of it.

Kathleen cleared her throat, “Well, I have a condition attached,” Kathleen said, making the others look at her curiously, including Pete who didn’t know what she was talking about.

“Go on, let’s hear it,” Eric urged her on.

“I was thinking if we are going to do this, it shouldn’t be just a foundation. Maybe we should have a television or radio show where we can discuss the subject too. We can bring in guests once a week to talk about their experience, the roles their parents pla-yed in it, and how they survived. That way we can enlighten parents about what might be going on un-der their roof without their knowledge. Trying to help girls who have been s-xually abused is one thing, but preventing it so that many others don’t experience it, is another thing. And the only way we can do that is by se-nsitizing the public about this,” Kathleen said, and they all remained quiet as they digested what she had said.

Pete reached out a hand to Kathleen and gave her a big smile, “It’s a brilliant idea. I’m so proud of you,” he whispered to her, making her smile, while they waited for the others.

“I like it. I like this idea,” Eric said with a nod.

“I do too,” Kimberly said, and so did Ken and Ella who nodded in agreement.

Ken was going to stand as the legal counsel for every case of s-xual abuse brou-ght to them, as he and Ella had also decided to support the foundation in any way they could. Kimberly’s father and Eric’s parents had offered to be the major sponsors.

“But that isn’t my condition,” Kathleen said, making them look at her in confusion again, but Eric quickly got where she was driving to, and glanced at his wife.

“You want her to appear on the show?” Eric asked, and Kathleen nodded.

“What? Me?” Kimberly asked in horror.

“Yes. I thought about it. I think you just be the first guest on the show. Everyone seems to think they know about your life, but they don’t really have any idea what you’ve been throu-gh, and how strong you’ve been to get to where you are today. I’m not saying you owe anyone an explanation, but you owe many girls out there hope. You are a symbol of hope that someone nee-ds to know that they can change if they get help, and they can get the help they nee-d by coming to us. You never can tell who you might be watching the program, or lives that will be transformed throu-gh you,” Kathleen said in encouragement.

Kimberly turned teary eyes to Eric, “You’re not going to start crying again, are you? You nuh dey tire? Cry cry baby!” Eric said in a teasing tone while the others laughed.

He reached out to wipe a tear from her face, “You don’t have to do it if you don’t want to, but…”

“I will do it,” Kimberly said with a sniffle.

“You will?” Eric was surprised since he had expected her to reject it.

“Yeah. Kat is right. Everyone keeps running their mouth about me when they don’t know what it means to be me. So maybe I can use this opportunity to set the records straight, and also help someone out there,” Kimberly said, and Kathleen nodded.

“It is settled then. We are doing this!” Ella said excitedly.

“I suppose you will be hosting the shows?” Kimberly asked Kathleen who nodded, and then she nodded too.

“So now that we have agreed to do this when are we starting?” Pete asked since he didn’t want Kathleen to just sit at home doing nothing while waiting for them to put things together.

“Eric alre-ady bought the building we would be using. So I and my staff will start working on it next week, now that Kathleen has given the go-ahead,” Kimberly said.

“You alre-ady bought the building?” Kathleen asked in surprise, “What if I refused to do it?”

“You can’t refuse something God has given the go-ahead for,” Eric said, making Kathleen smile.

“I guess so.”

“Kat you will have to be around as we work on the place since you are in charge there. You have to tell us how you want the place to be organized,” Kimberly said, and Kathleen nodded.

“We will start the name registration this week, and start looking to employ reliable people too. We should be set to open in two months,” Kimberly estimated.

“Is it going to be a television show or a radio show?” Ella asked thoughtfully.

“Let’s pray about it,” Kathleen and Eric said in unison and they all laughed.

“Okay, we will all pray about it, and meet to discuss it another time,” Kimberly concluded, “Now let’s pla-y! I prepared a game for us,” She said excitedly as she stood up to pick a tiny box that no one else had noticed.

“Uhm, give a minute.” Ella said, making Kimberly pause to look at her curiously, “Before we pla-y, I have an announcement to make. We. We both have an announcement,” she said, referring to both Ken and herself.

Pete looked at them curiously, and then glanced at Ken who wi-nked at him. Pete smi-rked in return as he relaxed and watched his sister who seemed very nervous.

Ella cleared her throat, “I know this may come as a surprise to the rest of you. But I and Femi are in a relationship,” she said it all very fast.

“What? You don’t believe me?” Ella asked when they all remained mute and just kept staring at her.

“Sorry? Is that the announcement?” Kimberly asked, trying not to laugh.

“Yes. Why?” Ella asked with a frown.

“Were you really expecting us to be surprised? I doubt there is a person in here that isn’t aware. Ask aunty Martha,” Kimberly said, making Eric and Kathleen laugh.

“How did you all know?” Ella asked in confusion as she turned to look at Ken who was grinning happily.

“I don’t know about the others, but it was the first day at the club. You both didn’t look like mere friends,” Eric said, and Ella sighed as she rested her back on the couch and shut her eyes.

“That wasn’t so ha-rdnow, was it? Well done baby,” Ken said, patting her hair.

“When did you both start dating?” Pete growled, glaring at them both.

“Isn’t the reaction coming a bit too late? You should have done that the moment she made the announcement. You’re such a bad actor,” Kathleen said with a task, and Ken chuckled.

“plea-se you can go on with your game now,” Ella said weakly, making the others laugh.

Kimberly clapped her hands to get their attention, “Listen up guys, the game is simple. Everyone gets to pick a paper from the box and do whatever is written in it. There is a penalty if you don’t do it, and each penalty is written on the notebook beside the box,” Kimberly said, “So who is going first?” She asked looking at each of them.

“My husband will start,” Kathleen volunteered, making the others laugh, while Pete glared at her.

“Why didn’t you go first?” He asked her with a scowl

“I would have gone first, but you are my head,” Kathleen said with a grin, and Pete reluctantly stood up and picked a folded paper from the box. He smiled when he saw what was written on it and turned to look at Kathleen with a sm-irk. This was going to be her punishment for pushing him out.

“You are supposed to re-ad out what is written on it,” Kimberly said, making Pete grin.

“Pick any person in the room and tell us the funniest thing you’ve seen them do,” Pete re-adout with laughter in his voice, “I pick my wife. I’m sorry in advance babe,” Pete said with a grin, making it obvious he wasn’t sorry.

“So, this happened on our wedding night,” Pete started, and everyone listened closely while Kathleen watched him with a curious frown, wondering what had been so funny about their wedding night that she didn’t know about. Was it their s-x? He couldn’t talk about that publicly, could he?

“I stepped out of the bathroom and I saw my lovely wife humping on a pillow,” Pete said, and Kathleen g@sped in disbelief. No way! There was no way he saw that!

“At first I thought she was… You know, eager to have me. Until I overheard her spelling coconut, and then I realized my beloved wife was practicing her moves,” Before Pete could finish Kathleen yelled his name in horror, while Kimberly and Ella bur-st into a peal of laughter.

“Coconut?” Eric asked, turning to give Kimberly a questioning look.

“KUNLE!” Kathleen kept yelling his name in embarras-sment as she chased him around the living room with her handbag, while Pete laughed ha-rdas he tried to avoid being hit by her handbag.

“How could you do that to me?” She yelled at him.

“How could you offer me as a sacrifice when you don’t even know how difficult the tasks might be?” Pete fired back while the others watched them in amusement.

“So you were pretending that time you came out of the bathroom?” Kathleen asked in disbelief and embarras-sment. She couldn’t believe that he had known this whole time and had said nothing.

“You’ve always been a liar, you know? Pretending to be asleep? You are one of your kind,” Pete said with a grin.

“I’m not going to forgive you for this,” Kathleen promised.

“I’m sure you will baby, you are a Christian after all,” Pete said with a wi-nk.

“I’m curious about something though, who taught you all the coconut move?” Eric asked, making everyone turn to look at him, while Kimberly glared at him.

“Don’t tell me she did it too?” Ken asked excitedly, referring to Kimberly.

“She did,” Eric admitted, and the others started laughing, including Kathleen. While Kimberly hit Eric in annoyance.

“It was Kathleen’s mom,” Ella revealed, and both Ken and Eric looked at her with rounded eyes, while Pete chuckled. Why wasn’t he surprised? There was nothing Kathleen’s mom could do that would surprise him. The woman was one of the wonders of the world. He made a mental note to se-nd her some money once he got home.

“So you took lessons from Kathleen’s mom?” Eric asked Kimberly in amusement.

“She didn’t, I told them about it,” Kathleen said with an embarras-sed smile.

“I actually did. I met her during your wedding reception and asked her about it,” Kimberly said in embarras-sment, making Kathleen’s eyes wi-den in surprise.

“Everyone else is practicing how to spell coconut ap@rt from you,” Ken whispered to Ella who elbowed him.
