EPISODE SIXTEEN:

{Cas-sIE’S POV}

I was with Jenny at the hospital sitting beside Tarma.

It was ten minutes past eleven.

We hadn’t said anything to each other since I got here. I guess everyone was speechless of the whole drama these past few days.

Two things bothered me. My husband was locked up in jail and I carried a baby for a young boy my daughter’s age. To be honest, I had no idea how to break the news to Lola and the kids. I lied to my kids about James taking a business trip. I hadn’t the guts to tell them their father was arrested for attem-pted murder.

I don’t know how long I’m going to keep the lies going.

Finally, Jenny broke the silence. ” This is all my fault. If I hadn’t drawn that stupid bet with Cas-sie, none of this would have happened.”

I glanced at her. ” There was nothing anyone could do about it.”

Jenny looked away. ” I know but I still hold myself responsible.”

” On the contrary, you just help me in ex-posing the truth about my husband,” I said. ” If things hadn’t turned out the way it did, I wouldn’t have known James to be g@y.”

” I’m disgusted,” Jenny said. ” I’ve always respected your husband but this g@y stuff just painted a bad picture of him. Still, I feel it’s all my fault things went sour with you guys.”

I wanted to say something to her but I decided now wasn’t the time. Instead I turned to Tarma. ” How’s your back, Tarma.”

” Busted!” She said without looking at us. ” I’m crippled for life aren’t I?”

” You’ll be fine. I’m sure of it,” Jenny said although she sounded doubtful.

” So what’s your plan for the baby?” Tarma asked.

” She’s keeping it,” Jenny spoke for me.

Tarma sounded surprised. ” Why would you keep it? Doesn’t it bother you that your daughter’s clas-smate impregnated you? I mean there are drugs you could take….what about those drugs we got for you? Don’t tell me you didn’t take them!”

” I’m keeping the baby, Tarma,” I replied. ” And no, I didn’t take the drugs cause I felt scared of Killing an innocent child. That’s why I’m going to keep it. I don’t suppose James would keep me as a wife when he gets out of jail but no matter what happens, I’m going to make sure I get prepared for the worse.”

” The worse?”

I nodded sadly. ” That’s right. I’m going to get a divorce.”

This startled both of my friends.

” Isn’t that a crazy thing to do? Why on Earth would you want to divorce James?” Jenny asked.

” He’s g@y and a killer. I can’t live with a man like that. I’d rather gather my children around and start life afresh. It’s not as if I don’t have money. I’ll keep Teddy’s baby but I’m not going to stay in the same roof with James. I have no idea who’s going to kill next. Me or the baby.”

Tarma was silent but Jenny kept talking.

” Cas-sie, there are far more better ways to settle your Marital problems. You never know if James is guilty or not. He hasn’t faced trial yet.”

” What do you mean?”

Jenny leaned forward at me. ” Didn’t you hear what he said? He said he wasn’t responsible for Tarma’s accident.”

” And you believe that?”

Jenny shooked her head. ” I’m trying not to believe that but somehow, I feel perhaps your husband may not be responsible for that accident.”

This got TARMA startled. She turned her head at Jenny. ” So are you implying that I’m a liar?!”

” Tarma, are you sure you saw James when he hit you with that car?” Jenny asked.

” Ofcourse I did,” she sh0t back. ” He was looking all over for me. Then out of the blue a car c@mĀ£ surging at me. I was quic-k to capture his face before I got rammed.”

” How was it you captured his face?”

” What sort of question is that? It was the same figure in the car. I know James figure when I see him.”

” But you never captured the face of the driver.”

” What the Matter with you? What are you getting at?”

Jenny took her time to explain. ” What I’m saying is there’s a possibility that James might not be that driver. It could be someone else with the same figure and stature. Remember James don’t know who we are. He doesn’t know you’re Cas-sie’s friend so there’s no way he could have recognized you. Not in that crowded club.”

” That’s trash!” Tarma yelled. ” It was James. I saw him. StĀ©p complicating things for me.”

I was listening to all these in silence. My mind was busy with wild thousands running in and out.

Jenny’s word’s struck a nerve in me.

What if…..what if…..

The door threw opened and Dada with some policemen barged in. Jenny and I stood up sharply.

” What’s the problem?”

Dada glared dangerously at me. ” Marcel’s missing.”

{ TEDDY’S POV}

” How do you feel now?” I asked, holding my phone ti-ghtly to my ears. ” You feeling alright?”

Simi’s weak little voice reached my ears. ” I’m getting better, Marcel. The doctor said in a space of two days, I’d be free to go home.”

” Yeah,” I sli-pped on my un-derp@n-ts. ” I’m well aware of that.”

” Where are you, brother? I thought you promised to stay the night with me. I feel soo lonely without you and I’m scared. What if that man comes in again and drugā€“”

” He won’t be back,” I stood up, putting on my nĀ£Ā¢klaces. ” I as-sure you. He’s in jail right about now. Just take it easy, tomorrow morning, I’m gonna spend the entire day with you.”

” Why can’t you come over tonight?”

” Sadly, Simi, I’m at work.”

” ma-king outfits?”

I bite myl-ips ha-rd . ” Yeah, ma-king outfits.”

There was silence on the line. Then she spoke. ” I see. Marcel, you haven’t told me what’s going on.”

My shoes were waiting for me on the table. I took it and wore them. ” Simi, I Know you’ve got lots of questions but I’m not in the right position to start explaining everything especially on the phone. When I see you in the morning, then I’ll explain everything.”

” Marcel?”

” Yes, Simi?”

” Promise me you wouldn’t lie to me.”

I stĀ©pped putting on my shoes. For a while, I didn’t know what to say. ” What makes you think I’m going to lie to you?”

” You’ve always been lying. I know that because you’re too secretive. A secretive person always lies to cover up. I won’t stand for any more lies. If you’re going to speak to me, you’d better tell me the truth.”

I opened my mouth, then closed it. Damnit, why wouldn’t this girl take it easy and slow with me. She’s always putting me in h0t waters.

I was about replying her when I heard a slow knocking on my door.

” Teddy, you’ve got five minutes left to show up. The boss wants to see you right now.”

I sat up, somehow, I didn’t recognize that voice but I knew I was left with five minutes before the show starts.

” Simi, I’d call you back. Get some rest,” and I hung up before she starts asking any questions.

When I opened the door, there was no one outside.

Strange.

I returned back into the room and took my mask. Whoever delivered that message to me some minutes ago, I have no idea who he was but that doesn’t stĀ©p me from going to see my boss. If Dada wants me, then I’d better go meet him before the show.

Dada’s office was located six floors up the building. I’d have to take the shortest way, an elevator.

The elevator was free when I got in and just as I was about to shut the door, a man c@mĀ£ running in with a chef cap and a long white clothed food trolley.

” Sorry for intruding,” he p@n-ted as he got into the elevator. ” I must get down to the kitchen to get some orders. Do you mind if Iā€“”

” Not at all,” I said and pressed the bu-tton down the first floor where the kitchen place was. I figured I still have some time left before going to meet Dada.

The elevator’s door slid closed and began descending down towards the first floor.

Suddenly, I felt something sharp stabbing my arm. When I turned around, I saw it was a syringe. The chef was injecting something into me.

I pushed him away and shouted for help but it was alre-ady too late. He watched me as I began staggering. Then he ran up to me, caught my arm and injected a second dose.

I struggled to break free of his grip but he was far too strong for me to handle.

My head began spinning and my eyes went heavy.

Everything happened in a split second.

The next thing I knew, I felt myself being bundled into the trolley and covered with the white cloth.

I heard the elevator doors swinged opened and I felt myself being wheeled all the way throu-gh the busy kitchen where other chefs were cooking and talking.

Soon the trolley Bagan moving fast as it bu-mped out of the kitchen’s backyard.

” Hurry up!” A man’s voice called urgently. ” Get the car re-ady. We’ve got to move now!”

I gro-an ed as the roar of a car engine blasted towards me. The rest of the noises faded off as I was being lifted into the car.

My vision darkened and I plunged into darkness.

{Bridget’s POV}

I was walking out of the club to get some fresh air when I saw this big white van speeding throu-gh the backyard of the club.

Two men c@mĀ£ down the car and rushed up to a chef who was rolling a food trolley.

I hid in the darkness when I saw them lifting someone out of the trolley. To my shock, I recognized the victim.

It was Teddy.

The strange men hopped into the van and sped off into the highway. I ran forward, scre-wing my eyes as I re-ad the licence plate numbers.

Dk962-Lagos.

I got the license numbers. Now to trace them from behind.
