The Battle Of Love vs Social Clas-s
episode 3
Little kind gestures can make a person more attrac-tive than he/she alre-ady is. When you do good without expecting anything in return, you attra-ct blessings you never imagined. That little kind gesture by Olivia made Dennis fall even more in love with her. It was refreshing for him to experience genuine kindness from someone that didn’t know how wealthy he was. Before then, he has alre-ady received gifts from people, but these were people that alre-ady knew his financial and influential status in the society. They knew Dennis c@m£ from a wealthy family so he always thought they were kind to him because they knew who he was. However, Olivia’s case was extremely different because she had no clue that Dennis was from the upper social clas-s in the society. She also had no idea that the man she gave that little money to, parked the latest G-wagon a block away from the restaurant. If only Olivia knew the calibre of men Dennis belonged to, she would have been dead surprised that he waited all evening till she closed from work just to get her phone number. At this point, it’s safe to say that she was genuinely nice to Dennis and wasn’t a gold digger after his money.
As Dennis walked down to where he parked his car, he couldn’t st©p smiling as he reminisced on what happened that evening. His heart was gladden as he looked at the phone number Olivia gave to him. For some weird reasons, he felt accomplished and fulfilled for the day and couldn’t wait to contact her.
On the other hand, Olivia thought about Dennis on her way back home. She was excited whenever his thought popped up in her mind. For some reasons, she felt drawn to him but was also scared at the same time. Maybe Olivia’s spirit s-en-sed the hurdles that were before her if she ever thought of going into any form of relationsh!pwith Dennis. It was a long sh0t but she was confident in God’s direction for her life.
Before then, Olivia hadn’t been in any serious relationsh!p. She had been single for a long time and almost forgot what it felt like to be loved and cared for by someone. Due to her poor background, she was mostly interested in working and providing for her family. She felt that relationsh!ps were luxury only meant for the upper and middle clas-s citizens because she didn’t have any time and attention to give to any man.

Any hour unpaid was a luxury Olivia couldn’t afford and this mentality succeeded in ma-king her perceive relationsh!ps as unimportant. Before then, so many men had made pas-ses at her but she turned them down. But for some strange reasons, she was somehow into Dennis. They both thought of each other all night before retiring to be-d.
The following day at around 10am, Dennis called Olivia on phone to check up on her. The phone rang for few seconds before she picked up. “Hello, Goodmorning” she said, “Morning Olivia, how was your night?” He asked and she immediately knew who she was taking with. “Dennis? Is this you?” She asked and he replied “Yes dear”.
They spoke for a while before Dennis asked Olivia out on a d@t£. “I would love to see you today, will you make yourself available tonight at any time convenient for you? He inquired, “I will be working afternoon shift today and will close in the evening by around 8pm, so I don’t see how possible it can be” she said.
Dennis paused for few seconds and thought of a possible solution. “What if I pick you after work and we can go to somewhere nice to have dinner, will that be ok by you?” He asked and she was mute for few seconds, “I still don’t think it’s a good idea because I won’t have the time to change from my work uniform into something suitable for the occasion” Olivia said but he told her not to bother. He as-sured her that she was perfectly fine to go on the d@t£ with her work uniform. After deliberating for a while, she finally agreed.
Immediately Olivia agreed to the d@t£ offer, Dennis’s joy knew no bound. He was extremely happy but tried his possible best not to let his excitement show. They spoke for a little while before saying “Goodbyes” and ending the call.
All throu-gh that day, Dennis and Olivia were excited at the thought of their upcoming d@t£. Olivia smiled all throu-gh that day at work to the extent that her colleagues even noticed. She kept her little secret to herself and didn’t share with her nosy colleagues that kept asking why she was so happy.
While Olivia smiled all throu-gh the day, Dennis on the other hand was planning to surprise her. He called a friend of his that had a boutique and ordered two nice dresses for Olivia. He describe-d her size to the lady and she was quic-k to detect what outfit would fit her. In less than an hour, the outfits arrived at Dennis office. He kept this little detail a secret and didn’t inform Olivia that she wasn’t going to wear her work uniform to the d@t£ as she thought. Dinner reservations were made at a nice restaurant close to where Olivia worked and at this point, it’s safe to say that the d@t£ was going to be a nice one because alot of thoughts and efforts were put into it.
Finally, the scheduled time for the d@t£ drew nearer and it was time for Dennis to pick Olivia up from work. He didn’t want to go with his car for fear that she might find out that he was extremely wealthy. Due to this, he made use of one of his dad’s company saloon car that had the company logo and write-ups on the b©dy. Dennis didn’t want to b!ow his cover as a low clas-s citizen. He drove down to Olivia’s work place and waited for her outside the restaurant parking lot.
When Dennis arrived at Olivia’s work place, he called to inform her that he was outside. She told him to give her few minutes to pack up and sign out for the day. Few minutes later, Olivia was outside and Dennis horned the car to get her attention. When she saw him, she smiled and walked towards the vehicle.
“Hi, nice seeing you again, how are you doing?” Olivia said as she entered inside the car. “I’m doing even more better now you are here. Are you re-ady for our d@t£?” Dennis inquired and she happily nodded ‘Yes’. Just when he was about to drive out, he remembered the dress he bought for her. “Oh! before I forget, I bought you something to change into” he said and stretched his hand to the back seat to get the bag containing the clothes he bought for her.
Immediately Dennis handed the bag to Olivia, she was shocked and surprised at the same time. She looked into the bag and looked at Dennis afterwards. “Honestly, you shouldn’t have bothered. Didn’t this cost you alot of money? I’m sorry but I can’t accept this. Also, won’t your boss get angry with you for driving the company’s car for your personal activities? What if your boss sees you with this car at the location we are headed, do you know how upset he might be with you? I really don’t want you to try too ha-rd to impress me because I’m not drawn to this sort of things. You are a nice person and I think that’s enough reason for me to want to go out on a d@t£ with you. I’m sorry but I can’t take these dresses, kindly return them if possible and get your money back” Olivia said.
As Dennis sat there listening to every word that c@m£ out of Olivia’s mouth, he was utterly dumbfounded. Wow! If only Olivia knew who was sitting in that car with her, she would have swallowed her saliva. If only she knew that Dennis family makes a fortune every hour that goes by. If only she knew the money magnet Mr & Mrs Duncan were and if only she knew how many luxurious cars Dennis had.
To be honest, all Dennis could find himself doing at that moment was smile. He was totally speechless and didn’t know what to say or do that won’t risk his cover being b!own. He just smiled and as-sured Olivia that it was ok for her to keep the dresses. Without wasting any more time, he told her to wear one of them for the d@t£ and excused himself from the car so she could change into one of the dresses. The car windows were tinted so it was safe for Olivia to change up.
Few minutes later, Olivia notified Dennis that she was done. He entered inside the car and was smitten at how effortlessly beautiful she looked without even trying too ha-rd . “How do I look?” Olivia happily asked, “You look breathtaking dear, now let’s head out because it’s getting quite late” Dennis said and drove off.
As they drove to the restaurant for their d@t£, Dennis stole glances and Olivia and she blu-shed whenever their eyes jammed. It’s safe to say these two lovebirds were extremely into each other and weren’t hiding their feelings anymore. Shortly afterwards, they arrived at the restaurant and ordered their meals. When the food arrived, they ate happily and talk about random things.
de-ep down, Dennis wanted to make his feelings and intentions known to Olivia but was scared that she might turn him down. He succeeded in concealing his feelings all night till they were about leaving.
While they conversed that evening, Olivia didn’t reveal too many details about her family background and struggles to Dennis for fear that he might begin to pity her. She hated pity more than anything in the world and didn’t want people to do things for her out of pity. She kept things clas-sy all throu-gh and didn’t reveal anything too personal; same with Dennis. After eating, he cleared the bills and they left.
As they walked towards the parking lot, Dennis figured it was time for him to make his feelings known to Olivia. When they entered the car, he tried to warm up the atmosphere in preparation for his heartfelt confession. “I hope you had a great time today?” He asked, “Yes I did, thank you so much for everything” she replied and he told her not to mention.
de-ep down, Dennis got the signal that it was time to ask Olivia to be his p@rtner but was somehow scared. He managed to sweep evey doubt beneath the rug and make his move regardless of whatever the outcome would be. He took a de-ep breath and looked into Olivia’s eyes; “I have something to tell you but I don’t know how you will react. However, I have decided to come clean regardless” he calmly said.
At this point, Olivia figured what Dennis was about to say but she didn’t want to interfere in his speech. Their eyes were fixed on each other as the atmosphere gradually began to heat up. He looked into her shiny eyes and confidently said these three words; “I Love You!”.
Instantly, Olivia was shocked and it was extremely visible on her face. She was about to say something but Dennis hushed her and said; “Don’t break my heart before I completely give it to you”.

The heart knows whom it beats for, no matter how you try to hide or conceal it. When you are genuinely in love with someone, it’s difficult to hold back your emotions and feelings for that person without letting them know how you feel. In as much as Dennis wanted to wait a little longer before ma-king his feelings known to Olivia, he just couldn’t help but let her know how much he loved and wanted her in his life. An evening that initially served the purpose of a casual d@t£, turned out quite differently than expected towards the end.
After Dennis heartfelt confession, Olivia’s whole b©dy instantly bec@m£ cold and numb. Her breath ceased as she looked into his eyes. By mere looking into Dennis eyes, Olivia could see the genuineness of his heart and intentions for her. After being mute for a while, she finally spoke. “Why me? I mean, we just met and have seen each other only thrice, so how can you possibly know that you are in love with me?” She calmly inquired.
When Olivia was done talking, Dennis turned and faced her properly. He smiled faintly and said; “Olivia, the question shouldn’t be ‘Why me?” But rather ‘Why not you?’. I don’t have to be with you for years before acknowledging my feelings for you. It took me only few seconds the day we met to realize that you have stolen my heart. I know this is sudden but I couldn’t continue to conceal my feelings for you any longer. Even if I had just one minute to tell you how I feel for you, I won’t hesitate to use such opportunity. I know I took you by surprise and I apologize for that. Anyways, take as much time as you nee-d to think about everything I just told you tonight. Don’t rush anything because I’m willing to wait for you as long as it would take” Dennis said.
At that moment, Olivia was slightly shocked and flattered at the same time. She felt happy that a handsome gentleman like Dennis would find her so attrac-tive and valued. All throu-gh her life, this was the first time her spirit, soul and b©dy accepted someone. She was equally into him but had to take her time to make sure that a relationsh!pwas what she truly wanted.
After hearing that lovely and genuine heartfelt confession from the Love Struck man, Olivia told him that she would think about everything and deliver the response to his proposal when she was re-ady. Dennis was un-derstanding and urged her to take as much time that she nee-ded. Shortly after their conversation, he drove out of the parking lot and headed to their various destinations.
Dennis wanted to first make a st©p at Olivia’s house before heading to his own destination. Olivia lived in a low clas-s area of town and didn’t want to reveal her house to him but couldn’t resist when he asked for her house direction. Good thing is that she didn’t live in the slumps her parents resided in. She was fortunate enough to secure a one be-droom ap@rtment for herself at a low clas-s area not too far from the restaurant she worked at. So it’s safe to say that she wasn’t about to b!ow her little secret too soon.
“Where do you live? What’s your house address so I can drive you home before heading to my house” Dennis casually inquired. Olivia took a de-ep breath and said; “honestly, you don’t have to bother driving me all the way home. You can st©p at the junction close to my work place and I’ll gladly find my way home”.
Dennis wasn’t in support of that because there was no way he would let Olivia go home by herself at that time of the day. He kept probing for her house address till she finally revealed it. Immediately she told him where she lived, he detected that it was at a low clas-s p@rt of town. He didn’t say anything to let her know that her was surprised at her home location; after all, he didn’t expect much from her, knowing very well that she worked at a restaurant and obviously looked like someone struggling to make ends meet.
With Olivia’s aid, Dennis was able to locate her house in no time. When they arrived at the compound with no gate, he smiled and looked at her. “Are you OK? Do you nee-d me to do anything for you?” Dennis asked due to the compas-sion he felt in his heart for her. At that moment, he wanted to snap his f!nger and change her house and life in a flash of light. It pained him within to see where a woman he loved lived. But in order not to b!ow his cover, he remained calm.
After Dennis asked if Olivia wanted anything, she smiled faintly because that was the first time a man was going out of his way to put a smile on her face and care for her. She was happy at the thought of going into a relationsh!pwith him. After smiling faintly, she looked into his eyes and as-sured him that she was very much OK. They spoke for a few more seconds before Olivia alighted from the car and walked inside her house. Dennis waited till she was out of sight before driving off.
On the ride home, Dennis felt happy and at the same time sad. He was happy because Olivia finally knew how he felt for her, but was sad because he was now more aware of how unfortunate life was treating her. He wanted to perform magic immediately and change her life but that wasn’t possible because that would definitely b!ow the low profile he was trying to maintain. However, he was confident that everything would be alright soonest.
When Dennis arrived home that day, his parents had alre-ady gone to be-d. He sat in the living room for few minutes thinking about all that happened that day. Joy like never before filled his heart as Olivia’s thoughts graced his mind. “Where has she been all my life? How can one person have everything I have been searching for? So well mannered, kind and beautiful. I must have done something good in my lifetime to deserve a lady like Olivia. Thank you Lord” he quietly said.
All throu-gh that night, neither Dennis nor Olivia could sleep properly. They thought of each other and smiled while at it. Olivia gave Dennis relationsh!pproposal a thought and knew that she didn’t want to lose a caring gentleman like him. de-ep down, she was certain that she would accept his proposal as time goes on. For the first in Olivia’s life, her mind thought of something different other than the poverty that had befallen her family all throu-gh her lifetime. It felt refreshing to take her mind off her problems for once.
Days pas-sed and Dennis gradually made his way into Olivia’s heart. He called her twice a day and st©pped by at the restaurant whenever he had enough time to spare. Slowly, Olivia’s colleagues began to notice her relationsh!pwith the handsome gentleman that always visited the restaurant in search for her. They made fun of Olivia by calling her ‘wifey’ whenever they wanted to pu-ll her legs. As time went on, she got use to her colleagues knowing about her relationsh!pwith Dennis and smiled whenever they called her ‘wifey’.
Dennis usually left hvge money ti-ps for Olivia since she always refused any money he gives to her for up-keeps. “Don’t worry, use the money for yourself, I guess you might nee-d it more dear” was usually the response he got whenever he tried to give her money. Despite how selfless she was, he still sought for ways to take care of her without b!owing his cover.
With time, Mr & Mrs Duncan began to notice the sudden glow in their son. It was evident that their was something beautiful happening in his life. Due to the judgemental mindset most of the people in the upper social clas-s had, Dennis feared his parents might detest Olivia and disapprove of his relationsh!pwith her. It was very ha-rd for him to keep this hvge secret from his family, but he was willing to do anything to protect his relationsh!pwith Olivia.
Without an official “Yes”, Dennis still felt that Olivia hadn’t made things official with him; despite their inseparable relationsh!p. They saw each other whenever they had the chance to and talked on phone twice everyday.
After about a month of being together, Olivia finally made things official with Dennis. That day was the best day of Dennis’s life. He was extremely happy and didn’t care to let her know how excited he was. Olivia was so happy and surprise at how she managed to get a man like Dennis hooked. For the first time in her life, she felt valued and nee-ded by someone special.
Everything was going very well for the new lovebirds till something unexpected happened one fateful day. It happened that Olivia was s£nt on a errand by the restaurant manager. She was asked to submit a do¢v-ment to a real estate company in town. The restaurant was at the verge of expanding so they nee-ded a good real estate agency to handle the contract.
It happened that the Real Estate firm Olivia was headed to was one of Dennis family’s business. Mr Duncan owned a real estate firm and it was one of the biggest in the whole country. They worked with t©p contractors like Julius Berger and Co. They were renowned and trustworthy when it c@m£ to anything that had to do with ‘Real Estate’.
On that day, Dennis was on seat because his dad was out of the country. When Olivia arrived the company, she waited at the receptionist for almost an hour before she was ushered into the CEO’s office. The company was extremely Big and Busy. Olivia couldn’t st©p wondering when she would work at a nice place like that. When she was ushered into the CEO’s office, she had no idea that she was about to meet her own b©yfri£nd, whom she thought was a low income marketer for a beverage company which was also owned by Dennis family, but she had no idea about that too. She had been in the dark about his true identify but the cat was about to be let out of the bag.
When Olivia got to the door with the inscription ‘Chief Executive Officer Jnr’, she took a de-ep breath and opened the door. Immediately she opened the door, she almost dropped dead when she saw her man. Instantly, her mind processed almost a thousand thoughts of what Dennis was doing in the office that supposedly belonged to the CEO of a billion dollar company.
On the other hand, Dennis was dead drop shocked when he saw her. At that moment, he realised that his cover was alre-ady b!own so he didn’t try to lie. “Babe, what are you doing here?” he shockingly asked, “I should be the one asking you that question; what are you doing in an office that ought to belong to the CEO of this firm?” she curiously inquired.
Short of words, Dennis calmly said; “We nee-d to talk hun, I have not really been honest with you all these while. This company and many more belongs to my family. I am not a low income marketer but the sole heir to all my dad’s empires. I lied because I didn’t want you to love me for my wealthy status, but rather for who I am. plea-se sit down let’s talk better”.
Olivia’s eyes suddenly bec@m£ teary and before she could utter a word, the office door opened and they all looked to see who it was. Lo & Behold, it was no other person than ‘Mrs Duncan’.
