✍️ Chapter Four✍️

Kyle instantly got off me and off the be-d. He went to stand near the be-d, with his arms behind his back and his head bowed, staring at his feet.
“Hi, daddy!” I greeted my father as I shifted into a sitting position, breathing ra-pidly as if I’ve just ran a marathon.
My father stared suspiciously at the both of us, his deft f!ngersru-bbing the dark stubble of beard that was recently growing.
He was a dark-skinned, tall and bulky man of forty five years of age and although he looked threatening, to me he was always my own personal teddy bear. Ever since I was young, when I didn’t call him “Daddy or dad”, I called him “Teddy”. That was quite convenient considering his name was, Theodor Reynolds.
“What did she do now?” My father asked Kyle.
“Sir?” Kyle looked up at him in confusion.
Kyle still hasn’t gotten over the formality when he spoke to my father. I’d introduced him to my family when Kyle was ten and I, just about to turn ten. Since then Kyle had always called my father in the lines of “Sir or Mr Reynolds”. The amount of respect he had for my father was quite obvious, which made s-en-se because my dad was the only father figure Kyle had in his life, and that was excluding the @$$ that was Robert Reyes, Kyle’s father.
“It’s usually Keya who’s always the instigator,” My father continued.
A ghost of a smile appeared on Kyle’s face as both men turned and looked accusingly at me.
“That’s so true.” Kyle spoke.
I glared at both of them and they simultaneously bur-st out laughing.
I quic-kly got off the be-d. “I’m telling mom that you guys are ganging up on me again!”
“Oh c’mon kiddo.” My father folded his arms across his che-st.
I stuck my ton-gue out at him.
“What were you guys doing anyway?” he asked.
“Watching a movie,” I told him as I moved to my set of DVD’s to pick another movie to watch.
“Alright, but plea-se keep the noise down next time,” he said.
I looked at him and began to motion for him to go.
He ignored me and started talking to Kyle about football and Xbox games. I tuned out of their conversation, glaring impatiently at the both of them. They were laughing, completely oblivious that I was in the room with them.
“Dad!” I interrupted them. “Go away.”
My father only grinned at me, holding his hands up as if in surrender.
“Alright, alright. Just remember to come downstairs for dinner in two hours,” he said.
“Is Mom cooking?” I asked warily. I remembered the last time my mother cooked. Well it’s safe to say that we ended up having a take away that night whilst the fire fighters tried to calm the smoke from the kitchen.
“No, I am.” My father scowled at the air as if remembering that day too. “Wouldn’t want to burn down the house again.” He win-ked at Kyle and me and then left my be-droom.
Kyle turned to me with a mischievous sm-irk on his face.
“Don’t even think about it!” I warned him when he slowly walked towards me.
“Kyle I’ll kill you!” I threatened when he put both of his arms out and wiggled his f!ngers.
His eyebrows sh0t up at my threat, and he grinned.
“Kill me?” he asked as if not believing me.
“Stay away. Don’t even think about tou-ching me!” My hands searched around for a weapon and I gr@bb£d the first thing that c@m£ to contact. It was fluffy but I didn’t pay attention to it
Kyle laughed when I pointed whatever it was that was on my hand. I looked away from him to the object and silently seethed to myself.
It was a teddy bear. A freaking teddy bear!
“Are you planning to kill me with… that?” he asked, his eyes crinkling with laughter. As I backed once more I bec@m£ tra-pped against the wall and he was about a meter away from reaching me.
I stared at him with wi-de panicked eyes as I searched for an escape.
His whole face was gleaming with a wicked smile that only told me of his intentions.
I manoeuvred my b©dy with the wall but he followed me suit.
I took a de-ep breath, closing my eyes and when I opened them again, I gave him a look he only knew too well not mess with.
Instantly he backed away holding both of his hands up in surrender.
“Okay, I won’t tickle you. I got my revenge anyway,” he said in serious tone but in those crinkle green eyes of his there was also mirth.
“Good.”
“Good?” He sm-irked and then he went over to my be-d and slumped down on it.
I just stood there staring at his form and admiring how long he was in my small double be-d. I mean the guy was so tall he was practically leaning against my headboard and his feet still reached the end of my be-d.
May I be damned but the boy looked so appealing and S-xy; I could imagine myself on t©p of him and doing things that were not in the borderline of friendliness.
I shook my head as if to rid of the image.
“So what movie are we watching now?” he asked, opening his closed eyes to look at me.
I blu-shed again at being caught staring at him and quic-kly before he noticed that I was blu-shing I moved over to where my DVD’s were stationed.
There was no doubt at all that I, Keya Reynolds, was attra-cted to my best of eight years, Kyle Reyes. I have realized now how I was starting to lvst over him, but did he the same with me?
Some p@rt of me told me yes, that maybe he was considering the offer I pres£nted a while ago downstairs when I tea-sed him. But then another p@rt told me; No, he couldn’t because he saw me as Keya Reynolds his awkward and somehow feisty best friend that nee-ded protecting now and then when boys at school tried to get with her.
I wasn’t stupid; I knew why half of the guys never looked at me twice. It was because they were scared of Kyle.
Why? Well, because they sort of looked up to the guy. He got all the girls swooning at his very pres£nce and he was smart at the same time. Sometimes if he really wanted, Kyle could become so deadly that you wouldn’t want to cross him. Obviously he would have admirers, and people wanting to have what he had.
I knew I wasn’t that attrac-tive but I wasn’t ugly either. So while I was busy chasing after those guys, just for one of them to take my vir-ginity; they were busy running away from me because of this boy right here, who was lying in my be-d like he owned my freaking room.
So taking out the movie “Friends with Benefits” I stuck it on the pla-yer and then with confidence I strolled back towards my be-d and layed next to him, dra-ping my blankie around my w@!st.
“What did you put on?” Kyle asked looking down at me in confusion.
“You’ll see,” I told him vaguely as I watched the beginning of the movie.
“Oh fruck no!” Kyle swore as the scene began. “Friend’s with benefits, really?!”
“Shh,” I shushed him as I bec@m£ engrossed to what was happening in the movie.
To be honest I’ve watched this movie so many times and to say it was one of my favourite, will be an un-derstatement.
But there was a reason why I put it on right now and I could tell Kyle was suspicious about it because he kept on staring at me with narrowed eyes at every ten minutes.
I wasn’t obliviously unaware of the irony that has pres£nted itself between this movie and the situation I was in with him. And that was my whole reason of why I put it in the first place.
Half way throu-gh the movie I felt the weight of the be-d shifting and before I was even aware of it; Kyle was on t©p of me, pinning my hands upwards, the same position as earlier before he tickled me.
I stared at him, wi-de eyed and panicking. I couldn’t take another torture of tickles, my lungs were alre-ady so-re enough from laughing so loud earlier.
“Why did you put this movie?” Kyle asked me in a threatening but alluring voice.
I swallowed the lump of my throat due to the close proximity we were in. If I were to move my head up by slightest then we’d be breathing the same air.
“I felt like watching it,” I lied.
He narrowed his eyes suspiciously, “Really?”
It was obvious that he didn’t believe me.
I nodded my head and li-cked my dryl-ips.
Now that was the mistake I regretted doing because Kyle shifted his gaze from my eyes to myl-ips. Sudden and unexpected tingling shivers sh0t throu-gh my spine, allocating to my stomach. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t feel any bu-tterflies fluttering there. But, no, they weren’t just fluttering; they were freaking bombarding my stomach with their wings.
He just stared at myl-ips and I bec@m£ flvstered because I didn’t know what he was thinking. Seconds turned to minutes and his eyes still remained at myl-ips.
I was getting agitated now. And the fact that I couldn’t move my b©dy or arms due to him pinning them down didn’t help either.
“Kyle…” I spoke after moments.
He quic-kly darted his eyes back to mine, clearing his throat and I g@sped. His eyes were liquid green not just ordinary liquid but the liquid was molten green as if within the depths of his eyes, there were brimming with fire that was derived from the de-sire he was feeling.
Wait what? de-sire? I was going out of my mind, was it possible that my wishful thoughts and my lvst for him was now deluding my mind into thinking that he was feeling some de-sire for me.
Pfft! Yeah in my dreams.
But he still hasn’t let me go and he was still gazing at me like I was some delicious fruit that nee-ded to be devoured.
I wanted him to k!ssme. I didn’t care at that moment; I just wanted to feel hisl-ips k!ss!ngmine.
Jesus Keya that’s your freaking best friend! Some p@rt of me thought. But the rest of me was dominated by the lvstful hor-mones that were exploding in my blood.
So I couldn’t help it but think of that. He was too S-xy and hisl-ips looked so inviting at the moment. Plus, he wasn’t helping the situation either by occasionally l!çk!ng his lowerl-ip.
“K-Kyle,” I croaked, my voice husky with…what lvst?
“Yeah?” His voice too was raspy as mine but his were a S-xy raspy that only made my insides tremble.
“Can I ask you a question?” I blinked a few times in order to free myself from his burning eyes.
“Yeah?” he repeated.
And it took a lot of will and courage to say what I had to say next and I had to close my eyes in order to avoid his eyes.
“If you weren’t my best friend would…would you have done it, when I asked you to take my vir-ginity?
Oh Dammit! Those words sounded a lot better in my head. I dre-aded his answer. I couldn’t even bear to look at him to see his reaction.
I felt the weight shifting off me and my hands being freed and that only meant one thing.
“Keya, look at me.” his voice sounded clear now, his tone serious.
I shook my head refusing his command.
“Dammit! Keya plea-se!” he begged.
Well since he begged. I tentatively opened my eyes to look at him.
He was scowling at me and I didn’t even know if it was because of my question or because of my stubbornness.
He sat up and I followed his actions as I sat up from the be-d.
He faltered his scowl to a frown but he was frowning down at my fisted hand on the be-d instead of me. His looked serious.
“Well?” he asked.
I shrugged, confused.
“Fine.” And he took a de-ep breathe, moving his hands to ru-b his eyes.
“My answer is yes. Yes I would if you weren’t my best friend.”
I g@sped at that, feeling the temperature increasing once again. But I frowned once his words registered into my br@in.
“Why?” I found my mouth asking.
He frowned at me. “What do you mean…why?”
“Well, why would you do it?”
His frown increa-sed, “Isn’t it obvious?”
I frowned myself, shaking my head.
“Seriously?” he asked.
“What?” I asked now annoyed and confused.
“You have no idea do you?” he looked at me incredulously.
“No idea about what?”
He shook his head, still looking at me incredulous.
I frowned at him. If this was a way for him to avoid answering my question then I will keep on pressing.
“So…?”
“So?”
“You didn’t answer my question.” I folded my arms around my legs and pressed my chin on my knees.
“I did. I told you I would.”
“Not that one, I want the reason why you would do it,” I told him, looking at him throu-gh my knees.
He only grinned at me in answer. “I completely forget how innocent you are sometimes.”
There he went again, changing the subject. At this moment I was close to giving up, but persistence was my middle name.
“I’m not innocent and st©p changing the subject.” I scolded him.
He shook his head again still grinning and then he moved to pinch my cheek. “You so are and naïve too. It’s kinda cute.”
“Kyle if you are looking for a punch, you sure are close to getting one.” I warned.
But that only increa-sed his grin. “Keya you know too well that your punches are feeble and they don’t do anything to me.”
I fumed inside at the truth of his words. While I’ll be putting all my strength into punching him the end result was always him standing completely unfazed as if nothing had t©uçhed him.
“Whatever.” I got up from the be-d and shoved him off in the process as I walked to the bathroom.
When I got there I heard him chuckling and muttering “Crazy B!tch”
“I heard that!” I shouted at him from the bathroom.
“It’s true!” He yelled back and then continued muttering something I think I might have heard wrong because he said,
“If only she knew how fv¢king beautiful she actually is.”
✍️ Chapter Five✍️
*This is not edited!*
………………….
“Don’t look now but he’s staring again,” Savannah my best girl friend said to me.
We were sitting at our usual table at lunch, it was in the far corner of the whole cafeteria but I was the one that chose this sp©t because the view from the window showed the city park where the leaves from the trees where currently budding, indicating the arrival of spring.
I snapped from her remark becoming alert for the first time.
“Let me guess,” I replied. “Tall and bulky?”
Sav’s eyes wi-de-ned and nodded.
“Dark hair with darkest blue eyes?”
She bit her l!pas her nod bec@m£ wary.
“Wears dark jeans with a black leather jacket giving him the whole bad boy aura?”
Sav giggled as she nodded. “Seems like you alre-ady know who he is.”
“The guy is in my English clas-s. I think he’s the new kid. I greeted him once and he just stared at me like I just ate his last piece of cake.” I shrugged. “I didn’t even catch his name.
“Well he’s not glaring at you now. He has this look as if its a longing look.”
“Yeah, sure totally…are you sure he’s looking at me?” I rolled my eyes. Sav was always this way when it c@m£ to guys.
“You should go talk to him. He looks lonely.” She suggested.
“What? No? And have him look at me with those eyes again? No way,” I refused.
“Oh c’mon, Keya, I’m sure he was just stunned before that such a gorgeous brown skinned goddess was talking to him.” She wagged her eyebrows.
I bur-st out laughing from her comment.
“Wow, okay this one is new.”
“Sorry, I was re-ading mythology yesterday. Some interesting stuff.” She shrugged.
“Anyway don’t stray me away from original subject. Go and talk to him. He’s new right, probably Kyle hasn’t warned him not to t©uçh you, like he has with every other guy in our year.”
Of course it’d been Sav that had suggested my theory in the first place of why every guy were chicken to go out with me and sometimes, to even talk to me.
“Yeah Sav, I might want to lose my vir-ginity but I’m not that desperate.” I grimaced at my own words.
Not Desperate? I scoffed internally. It was desperation that had me begging my best guy friend to take my vir-ginity in the first place. But Sav didn’t know that and I planned to keep it that way.
“Fine, if you’re not gonna do it, I am.” She said getting up.
“Be my guest.” I sm-irked and she gave me a challenging look before jumping off her seat and sauntering to where the new kid was sitting.
I watched her with awe and amazement as she grinned at the guy who looked at her as if he was dreaming.
Sav has never been the shy one between the both of us. Although she was dedicated in achieving her academics this year, she still loved to go out and p@rty.
With her fierce blue eyes and enchanting golden brown hair, she almost had every guy eating at the palm of her hands. Of course she has her parents to thank for the good genes they contributed to make such a stunning beauty as she.
And she says I’m the goddess. I snorted internally.
Sav was intelligent, beautiful and confident and what I admired most about her was the dedication she always possessed to get what she wants.
So it wasn’t a surprise to watch the new guy become transfixed by her beauty. She alre-ady had him eating at her hand.
I watched the sm-irk pl@yin his features as she flir-ted with him. He let out a laughter, his features bec@m£ enlightened by the glow of his grin and I internally wondered what she was telling him, but then his eyes shifted right at my table, tra-pping mine in a swift gaze.
I swallowed and instantly retreated my stare back to the food in front of me. I don’t even know why I felt like blu-shing, because my cheeks bec@m£ inflamed at that moment. Even though you couldn’t see the evidence of my blus-h, I still felt it.
It was at that moment that I turned my eyes away when Kyle suddenly made an appearance. He c@m£ along with Ned, his side-kick or should I say wing man.
“I am so starved!” Was Kyle’s introductory as he sat opposite the table to face me and took my remaining lunch in the process.
I scowled at him.
“What?” He said throu-gh a mouthful.
“I was still eating that!”
He frowned. “Didn’t you hear what I said? I did mention that I was starving.”
“So, just get your own food.” I folded my arms on t©p the table, my eyes trained right at him in a glare.
He shrugged. “Its not like you were going to finish it anyway. What’s your deal these days, you’ve never cared when I took your lunch before?” He commented.
I rolled my eyes and looked away. Truth was I didn’t know what was wrong with me. I was angry and frustrated at him. Why? Well because I regretted the fact that I blurted out or should I say begged, last week, for him to take my vir-ginity. Since then our relationsh!phas been kind of strained.
I didn’t know if it was him or me, but it was as if by asking him that question I’d put an unwanted tension between us.
For example, whenever I talk to a guy and Kyle happened to pas-s by, he would pratically give me a disapproving look and the guy I’m talking to, a death glare. This never happened before.
And whenever he was talking to some girl and I happened to be pas-sing by, he would stare at me for a brief moment in a blank expression until the girl demanded his attention. I would frown at him, wondering why he was looking.
I mean, it was not like I cared whoever he talked to girl or not. I didn’t own him and he could get la-id all he wanted. But if he could just st©p staring at me with those probing green as if he was seeking my reaction whenever he talked to a girl, then, I wouldn’t be this awkward around him.
“Seriously, I could cut the tension between you guys with a knife. What thefu-ck did you do this time Keya?” Ned asked, giving both me and Kyle a curious look.
“Me?” I bur-st out. “Why does it always have to be me?”
Ned and Kyle both gave me a look that said “don’t be melodramatic”. I just rolled my eyes at both of them.
“Well if you must know Ned, ” I looked at him, ignoring the warning look Kyle was shooting at me.
Seriously? He really thought I was going to tell Ned what occurred between us?
“Kyle is S-xually frustrated.” I stated, my eyes shifting to look at Kyle’s reaction. And if looks could kill, well I’d be just spe-ck of dust on the ground by the glare Kyle gave me.
I sm-irked, knowing fully well that I’ve just pissed him off. Well it felt good to piss him off. That way I wouldn’t start feeling guilty for putting a strain in our friendsh!p. It was his fault, that he made me ask him. He had to go on and become so good looking that even birds fell unto his feet from his radiance: for lack of a better exaggeration.
Ned looked at Kyle, “Seriously?” He asked, genuinely surprised.
“Shut up,” was Kyle’s gritted response. Silence filled in our table. Kyle and I were giving each other death glares and Ned looked suspiciously at the both of us.
“Omigod, Keya, you wouldn’t believe!” Sav decided at that moment to make her pres£nce known.
I turned my eyes away from the endearing green pool of Kyle’s eyes and stared expectantly at Sav.
“Believe, what?”
“Well, your English stud over there’s name is Ryland.” She gushed dreamily.
“Yeah? Well, I told you, you would have luck more than me. He looked smitten, what were you guys talking about?” I asked, genuinely interested at why he had looked over at me while laughing.
“Well—”
“Wait, are you guys talking about Ryland Rodes?” Kyle asked.
I f0rç£d myself to turn to him with accusing and yet annoyed eyes. “Yes.”
“Anyway, I was say—”
But Sav was interrupted yet again by Kyle, “Why are you guys interested in him?” He asked, growling specifically at me.
“First of all, I don’t see how this has got to do with you.” I glared at him. “Second of all, I’m not the one interested, Sav is.”
