REPLACEMENT GIRL 👧
CHAPTER 19

*HUMAIRAH POV*
Ever since I heard about Ahmad’s wedding with Rania, things hadn’t been easy for me. Nothing tasted good and my mind was always filled with his thoughts. I wished I never knew him, I wished I could just get rid of him from my heart but it was impossible. I could only try but loving him was a habit I could never get over with. I loved Ahmad, I truly loved him!
I sniffed as I wiped off the tears in my face while covering myself with a blanket. I thought Ahmad loved me because he bought me an expensive phone and turned himself into my driver. We also had lots of fun together in Brimstone and we ate in the dining area too. I really showed him lots of love though I never told him I loved him, he also did the same thing. I really thought we were meant for each other but…
Buzzzz!
Buzzzz!!
Buzzzz!!!
The vibr@tion of my phone interrupted my thought. It was Ahmad, he called me with his second number after having tried almost five times with his first number recently. I actually didn’t want to talk to him but now I don’t think I have any other choice, if I didn’t pick the call he would keep disturbing me.
“as-salama Alaykum (peace be upon you)” I said as soon as I picked the call. Judging from the noise I was perceiving, he was kind of driving. I could hear accelerations.
“Wa’alaykumusSalam (peace be upon you too), Humairah. I have been calling you since, is everything okay?” He said.
“Yeah” I sniffed and continued. “Did Sarah delivered my message to you?” I queried.
“Yes, she told me you are sick” He said.
“Yeah, I am” I muttered.
“Subhan-allah!” He grieved. “Are you at home?”
“Yeah” I muttered again.
“Okay Humairah plea-se stay right there I am coming over to take you to the hospital, okay?” He said.
“No sir, it’s just a minor…”
“Humairah, your health matters to me!” He quic-kly cut in and continued. “I am alre-ady on my way so just stay calm, okay?”
“Okay sir, but are you not supposed to be at the Walimah?” I said reminding him that today was his walimatul nikka (marriage banquet).
“Yes, I took excuse from Rania. I just want to check on you, you’ve been abs£nt for the past few days now!” He said laying emphasis on his last words, maybe he was angry too.
I wanted asking him why he didn’t care to check on me until today but promptly changed my mind. He supposed to check on me the day Sarah delivered my message to him but since he never truly cared, he hesitated.
“I am sorry, sir” I said as I terminated the call.
He called again but I quic-kly declined his call. The next thing I received was his text message saying he was alre-ady by our house. I heaved a sigh as I gently withdrew from the be-d. My uncle and his wife had gone to work. The kids were in school. I was the only one left in the house, so I quic-kly wore a simple t©p, put on my longest hijab and then headed out of the house.
Ahmad was leaning by his car and swiping throu-gh his phone. Immediately he saw me, he rushed to me. “Hey, Humairah” He placed his ha-rd el on my n£¢k to check my temperature.
My temperature wasn’t h0t and that made him to wrinkled one of his brows. Well, I alre-ady told him it was a normal thing. Perhaps not just a normal thing, but it was something that had to do with my fragile heart – feelings, not my b©dy.
“Your b©dy ain’t h0t, Humairah” He said.
“Yeah, I really don’t know how to describe how I am feeling right now. I just nee-d to be alone” I said.
“Alone you say?” He wrinkled a brow. “Tell me what’s really wrong with you Humairah, is it your salary? Okay, I will increase it” He said.
That moment, I didn’t even know when tears rolled down my cheeks while looking de-ep into his eyes. All the care he was showing me was for nothing since he couldn’t grasp what was going on with me. His hunch was something else and that pained me more. Maybe he was just pla-ying ha-rd to get or not willing to tell his best cook he loved her. Should I just tell him the truth? Yes, I should. After all I was alre-ady tired of keeping it to myself, I was in pain.
“I love you” I sniffed with my eyes fixed at him.
“What??” His jaw dropped in astonishment.
“I love you, Ahmad and that’s what is killing me. Goodbye!” I said about leaving when he held my hand so ti-ght that I couldn’t extricate.
“When did it started?” He finally said after a prolonged silence that had crept between us.
“Didn’t you noticed it?” I managed to ask.
“This is ridiculous, I thought it was just… OMG, you should have just told me” He blamed me.
“Just let me go, plea-se…” I implored him. “My heart aches whenever I am with you, Ahmad”
“But I nee-d you, I nee-d your food, I nee-d your…” He was blabbering when I quic-kly turned and gave him a resounding sl@p.
“I am done serving you, goodbye!” I said as I walked back into the house in tears. I knew it was over between us, I shouldn’t have sl@pped him but I think he deserved even more than that.
That day I cried until my uncle and his family returned back home, hence I wiped off my tears and pretended like nothing really happened.
That was the last time I saw Ahmad. I didn’t return back to his house and he never called or texted me. I lied to my uncle and his wife that I was tired of the job. One miraculous thing was Ahmad never st©pped s£nding me monthly salary, but he reduced it to N40k. Not bad, right?
I decided to further my education so I wrote my SSCE (Waec/Neco) and eventually applied for Niger State College Of Arts and Social Sciences. I never finished my secondary school though, I just wrote my SSCE and got the result I nee-ded.

REPLACEMENT GIRL 👧
CHAPTER 20
*THREE YEARS LATER*
*AHMAD’S POV*
“How do I look? Good, right?” Rania asked standing by the door of our inner sitting room.
“Of course you look good” I smiled at her.
“Okay, snap me then” She said.
“Alright” I said as I gave her a quic-k snap with my phone, we had been married for three years now and Alhamdulillah (thanks be to God) she was now four months pregnant for me.
In the early days of our marriage, I really thought just few nights with her could get her pregnant since she was also fertile unlike Naziha but I was so wrong, and that got me scared. I had to ask myself whether I was really fertile as the doctors said or not. My parents were also worried but eventually, God put a smile on our faces. They were happy now, at last a grandchild is on its way.
Every blessed day, I would wake up to the beautiful face of Rania. She was always trying her best to make me happy, in fact she told me there was no nee-d for house workers for she would do the house work herself. Even when she bec@m£ pregnant, she still does the house work herself.
Sarah returned back to Kumbashi Restaurant where I brou-ght her from, I was the one that told her to after having gave her N300k as compensation. You know, I didn’t want her to feel chased or something. Humairah, however resigned by herself the day I last met her but I never st©pped s£nding her monthly salary. Albeit I reduced it.
The day Humairah told me she loved me, I wasn’t really surprised. She had showed me love before but I thought it was just infatuation. Teenagers could easily change their minds, you know, even in their feelings they are not stable. That was why I didn’t take it serious.
I deliberately refused to contact her again for I didn’t want her to be in pain. I was alre-ady happily married, I shouldn’t try anything rash. I should concentrate on ma-king life better for me and my family. I wished Humairah the best in her lifetime, however I would keep s£nding her N40k every month for the sake of the love she had for me even if she ask me to st©p

“Honey, you were saying something about the baby’s name” Rania said as we walked into the sitting room together and sat on one of the couches. She always loved sitting on my l@p and so she did.
“Hmm” I sighed looking de-ep into her eyes, she had those h0t eyes you wouldn’t get tired of staring at. “If it’s a boy, we would name him Jaafar and if it’s a girl, we would name her Man-al”
“Perfect!” She squealed and drew her face closer to mine. “But I fv¢king hate labour”
“Why?” I scoffed.
“Is it funny?” She wrinkled one of her brows.
“No it’s not, but…” I said with one of my arms around her w@!st. “I really don’t think it’s a problem, Rania. We just have to keep our trust in God”
“Yeah!” She said with her own arms around my n£¢k. “I love you, Ahmad and will always love you”
“I love you too, Rania” I said drawing her more closer to me. “And I will always love you”
“Thanks, my love” She said wearing a smile on her beautiful face. “How many children would you like us to make? Three or four?” She asked.
“Eleven” I sm-irked.
“Huh? Hmm, that’s too much. Are you trying to imitate my father?” She wrinkled her brows.
“Maybe yes, but I also love children these days. I would like to have as many as eleven” I said giving her a k!ss. “How about you?” I asked.
“It doesn’t matter even if I tell you. I will bore as many as you want” She said smiling broadly.
Just then, my phone began buzzing. It was a call from my secretary, Jemima. “Can I…?”
“Yes” Rania said as she withdrew from my l@p.
“Alright” I stood and walked towards the window.
“Hello sir” Jemima uttered via the phone as soon as I took the call. “Good morning, sir”
“Morning, Jemima” I uttered.
“Sorry to disturb you this morning, sir. We have a new I.T student…” She said as I cut in.
“Didn’t I told you we don’t have room for I.T students anymore? What is wrong with you?” I said for I alre-ady had enough of I.T students.
“I am so sorry sir, but this one here is from NAFDAC” Jemima said in what seemed like a whisper, perhaps the person was standing close to her.
“NAFDAC?” I gulped ru-bbing the back of my n£¢k. “Okay, get her registered and keep her files with you. I will be there in some minutes”
“Okay sir” She said and terminated the call.
Rania was still around so I walked over to her and gave her a k!ss. “My love, I have something to attend to but I will be back soon In Shaa Allah (God’s Willing)” I said with my hands on her w@!st. “I promise”
“Alright, take care of yourself for me” She said.
“You too, my love” I smiled and k!$$£d her again before leaving.

Immediately I was in my office, I summoned Jemima and asked her to come with the new IT student we had. I hoped that this time around NAFDAC didn’t s£nd a spy to us. There was a time they did that, we thought the spy was a real student but reverse happened to be the case – it was a real NAFDAC official. He took many of our information to their headquarters, it was a long story.
“Welcome, sir” Jemima said as she walked into my office with the intern student while holding her files.
“What the hell?” I puzzled as soon as my eyes landed on the intern student, it was HUMAIRAH but how was that even possible?
