Chapter twenty {20}

“Why did you do that?”, Riley asked sean after tyra left with his dad.
“Do what?”, He pretended not to un-derstand.
“Sean you know what am talking about. Why did you annoy tyra?”
“And since when did you start to be worried about him huh? Riley I was right all along. We haven’t spoken since we broke up and you just walked up to me to talk about him”, Sean replied.
“That’s not the answer to my question sean. You have changed so much that I am beginning to see your true colour”, Riley said and sean gave a short smile.
“You also changed Riley, I don’t un-derstand you anymore. You only think of yourself only”, He replied and Riley left angrily.
She didn’t know why she was angry at sean but she just felt what sean did wasn’t right.
He broke up with her so why should he drag tyra into it.

“You dare leave without my permission!!!”, Red said as he hit Tyra who only look down.
He clenched his fist, Trying to control his anger.
He honestly didn’t want to accept tyra but he loved grace and he didn’t want to abandon her. So he decided to accept tyra but the hatred for him grew because anytime he sees tyra, It reminds him of the man who Grace had an affair with.
“Dad please don’t hit him. It was my fault, I for-ced him to go”, Cris said crying.
His plan was going on fine until Red called a teacher to ask why tyra hasn’t been home for two days.
Cris had lied about tyra going for 2 days excursion. He told his father that tyra was in a hurry so he couldn’t ask for his permission.
“Cris leave this is between me and tyra”, He replied strictly.
“Red please don’t hit him. It was my fault, I gave him my permission without your conse-nt”, Grace lied.
Though she had no idea where he went to until she for-ced the truth out of cris.
“You will surely regret disobeying my order, He will be locked in his room for 5 days without food or drink and you are not going anywhere even school until you learn to listen to me”, He said and left.
Grace followed to beg him to have mercy and forgive him but red was just to adamant to listen to anyone.
“Tyra am sorry, I didn’t expect dad to find out soon”, Cris apologized.
He felt very bad, Since he had @$$ured tyra that he would deal with his dad.
“Thanks cris. I was able to experience the happiness there”, he replied and went to his room.
3 DAYS LATER
Summer camp was over and school activities has resumed. Everything went back to normal but there was no tyra.
To dan this year’s summer camp was the best because that was where his relationship with helen started and the only camp tyra has attended.

“Still can’t believe you and Dan are dating. You look good together”, Eva giggled. This would be the fifth time she would be repeating that.
“I can’t believe it too. Anyways have you seen dan?”, Helen asked.
“No….. so you are already missing him huh…….. Am jealous”, Eva teased.
“Do you still like sean?”
“No… Not anymore, He’s behaving strangely and am not attra-cted to him anymore”, She replied and Dan appeared.
“Hi”, He greeted then as she kizzed Heken on her forehead.
“Hi”
“Are you worried about tyra? Why don’t you visit him?”, Helen suggested.
Dan’s mood hasn’t been a good one since tyra has been abse-nt. When he returned his car, He didn’t even get the chance to see him.
“I don’t think that’s a good idea”, He replied.
“Why don’t you message him?”, Eva suggested too.
“He hasn’t been answering, Am worried”, Dan said.

Riley thought of what sean said about her. It was actually true but it’s too late to change now.
Her friends already left her, Sean too and tyra ……. She doesn’t know.
What she’s sure of is that she’s all alone now.
She must admit she has been worried about tyra not that she likes him but she feels that it’s kinda her fault.
His fight with sean was because of her and that only worse-n the situation.

Tyra has been locked in his room for days now but not without food because cris would always sneak food for him throu-ghGrace help.
She felt pain for tyra because everything is all her fault. She can’t ba-re tyra being punished for her mistake.
Tho tyra was dying to leave the house, He hates being in the house because it’s remind him of what he doesn’t want to remember.
He was finally released but with a strict instruction “He can’t do anything without permission”
He finally went to school after 5 days just as red said. Everyone was happy to see him but he wasn’t.
Including Riley , She was kinda happy but of course she can’t show it. It concerns her pride.
Not that he wasn’t happy to see him but he wasn’t the happy guy anymore.
Since the past few days, He has been feeling sick.
“Welcome back tyra”, Dan was the first to greet him. He couldn’t hide his happiness. Those two are more like brothers.
“Are you ok?”, He asked dan who was looking sick. Grace noticed but she asked to take him to the hospital but he kept saying he was fine.
“Am fine, Just feeling feverish”, He replied.
His eyes met that of sean but he looked away. Sean just kept sm-irking.
“Tyra the principal wants to see you now”, The last teacher that walked in informed.
Tyra went to the principal office not knowing that his cl@$$mates followed. They were curious to know what the principal wants to say to him but Riley chose not to follow.
Why should she care? Literally she was the only one in cl@$$ except from sean.
“You won’t go see your boyfriend?”
She glared at him and continued studying her maths. She just stared at the textbook to keep her busy.
“Tyra smith …… Am sorry to disturb you but you are nee-ded in the hospital”, She said studying his expression for a while.
There was no way she was going to say his mom is dead.
“But why?”, His mouth went dry.
“Your mom. …… Something happened to her”, She tried breaking it down.
“What happened to my mom?”
“Hmm …. Tyra dear am really sorry to say this but you nee-d to know this. Your mom is dead”, The principal said but tyra laughed inwardly.
He thinks she just pla-ying around.
His cl@$$mates gasped when they heard the news and they felt bad immediately.
They didn’t wait any longer so as not to get caught. They carefully went to their cl@$$room.
“Ma’am am sure there’s a mistake. My mom was fine when I left her at home”, Tyra tried explaining.
What can possibly happen to her? She doesn’t go out.
“Am sorry tyra …… We will give you a ride to the hospital she is”, She said.
“Go pack your things”
Tyra didn’t believe it but that didn’t stop his tears from flowing. He tried not to cry since it wasn’t true but tears wouldn’t stop coming.
Riley was very curious to know what they heard when everyone walked back inside. Their mood changed and it wasn’t a happy one.
They were discussing in groups, She tried to eavesdrop but still she couldn’t hear.
She stood at the back of helen and Dan pretending to be looking for something. That was the only option left for her to hear but they turned to look at her including Eva.
They gave the look “what are you doing?”
She thought of an excuse to give but didn’t see any.
“Hmm…. You two are together?”, She asked referring to dan and helen and they nodded.
“I feel so sorry for tyra. He’s been going throu-gha lot lately, Now he has lost his mom too”
Someone said and Riley finally heard. She looked very sad but when she noticed that dan, Heken and Eva were still looking at her.
“Good, Good luck “, She said and for-ced a smile and left for her seat.

Tyra got to the hospital, He still wouldn’t believe something happened to his mom.
Wasn’t she fine before he left the house?
“Tyra”, Cris called out crying.
He left school early than tyra. He was also informed about grace’s death.
“Where’s mom?”, Tyra asked when cris went to hu-g him.
“I don’t know…. Ask dad”, Cris said.
“Where’s dad?”, He asked and red appeared immediately.
From the look of things, He has been the one crying the most. He loved grace but he treated her terribly because of anger.
He was angry that she had hurt him before but he didn’t stop loving her.
“What did you do to mom? What did you do?”, Tyra said crying holding red by his collar.
“Am sorry tyra. I couldn’t save her”, He said. He couldn’t stop blaming himself.

Tyra was home already. He came saying he doesn’t want to go mom, He wants to be with his mother.
He sat down sadly and he looked at his mom’s picture in his room. He couldn’t help but to cry more.
“How did she die?”, The question kept popping in his mind.
He asked red about the doctors test but red refused to answer.
His eyes caught a paper on his reading table. He reluctantly stood up to read it.
“Tyra Am so sorry …. Am so sorry for many things. I know sorry is not enough to take away all the pain in your heart. Tyra am so sorry for all the pain I have caused you, It isn’t your fault.
Am so sorry for being a coward and not being a good mother to you. My cowardness has turned me to someone not worthy of your forgiveness. I would have removed most of your pain if I had defended you and protected you from red. I couldn’t bring myself to tell you the truth about my past because I was ashamed of myself. I have been secretly enduring the pain of seeing you in pain but I couldn’t take it anymore.
Tyra I can’t see you suffer because of me, This is the only thing I can do but I hope once am gone, Everything will come back to normal.
Am sorry for not being the strong mother you have always wanted. I Love You and cris so much. Please take care of cris and be strong for me. I won’t be there with you and cris anymore but I will never stop loving you”
So my suspicions were right, Tyra thought.
That bastard killed her! He clenched his fist and fruited his teeth.
He banged furiously into his study room. He was still ducking but tyra didn’t care. It was his fault anyway.
“You killed her…. Am sure you are happy. You claim to love someone and yet you fight it ha-rd to forgive her, Yes… she made a mistake but it wasn’t her fault she fell for someone else who was so kind and loving to her. You said you love her and yet you kept hurting her because of her past, She has sliently ba-re the punish of her actions but you wouldn’t just stop hurting her. If you knew you didn’t want her back, You should have chased her away instead of killing her. No one can choose who he/ she will fall in love with, She just happen to fall for the wrong person. There’s no difference between that je-rk she fell for and you because you both hurt her.
I appreciate the fact you clothed me, Feed me and sheltered me but you think hating me is enough. Do you know mom would always cry alone but will never cry in front of you because she owes you for accepting me.
I don’t hate you , I despise you. You are a monster, Mom is gone all because of you, Now I don’t know who I should live for. She was the only one that wanted me. I will forever hate you Red smith and I will never forgive you”, Tyra shouted as tears rolled down his cheek and red just stared at him in guilt as tears also rolled down his cheeks.
He didn’t mean for everything to turn out this way.
He was happy that he was able to say his mind.
He was on his way out of the house when cris went to hold him.
“Please don’t leave me, Let me go with you”, Cris said with a swollen eyes but he has always stopped.
He’s probably tired of crying.
“Cris I don’t know where am going, I don’t want to endanger your life”, Tyra said sadly.
“Please don’t leave me here”, He pleaded and tyra remembered that his mom had said he should take care of cris.
“Ok”, He said not knowing where to go.

He arrived at dan’s house. That was the person’s house he can go to.
But unfortunately, He wasn’t around. It seems like him and his mom went out.
Tyra decided to wait for him outside the gate for him for a liitle.
He waited but still no sign of anyone and cris was beginning to complain of cold. He off his jacket and gave him.
After standing here for half an hour, He decided to leave but he doesn’t know where else to go to.
He only knows dan’s house and riley’s house. He thought of riley’s house but he can’t possibly go there. He dismissed that thought immediately.
She won’t be allow him to stay for few hours talk less of spending the night.
“Tyra am cold “, Cris complained and tyra had no choice than to go to riley’s house.

He knocked the door severally and when no one answer, he was about leaving and the door opened.
“Tyra?”, Riley called surprised.
“Riley who’s that?”, her mom shouted from the kitchen.
“It’s my cl@$$mate”, She replied.
Riley looked surprised seeing tyra and another kid she doesn’t know and he was with a bag.
“Hey tyra right? My daughter’s pa-rtner”, Mrs Evelyn said happily and Riley rolled her eyes.
“Come on in”, She said and tyra and cris entered.
“So why are here? Are you here for another projects?”
“Actually …. Am sorry for disturbing you but my brother and I have no place to spend the night, So I thought of coming here since it’s the only place I know apa-rt from my best friend’shouse”, Tyra explained but Mrs Evelyn and Riley just stared at them.
Their expressions were unreadable.
“Where are your parents?”, Mrs Evelyn asked and tyra found it out to answer.
“My mom …… S…she’s dead and my dad…. it’s better we stay away from him for today”, He replied.
“What of your relatives?”
“I don’t have any relative”,He replied.
“Did you run away from home? I will speak to your dad, Give me his contact”, Mrs Evelyn said doubting if tyra can be trust worthy.
“Am sorry ma but I am not going back to that house today. Am really sorry for disturbing you. We will leave if we are causing any disturbance”, Tyra said.
“Where will you go to this late? And don’t forget with a kid that is cold”, She said referring to the shivering cris.
“I will sort it out. Am really sorry for the disturbance”, Tyra said and was about to walk out.
“You are not causing any disturbance here, You are welcome to stay here”, Mrs Evelyn said probably pitying cris who was cold.
“Really Ma’am? Thank you so much”, Tyra said happily and Riley wondered what happened to him.
Their eyes met but Riley was the first to take hers away.
“Are you guys hungry?”, Mrs Evelyn asked and cris nodded but tyra knew he was lieing.
“Are you hungry cris?”, Tyra asked and he nodded slowly and Mrs Evelyn smiled.
“What of you tyra, Aren’t you hungry?”, She asked and he shook his head.
“No… Am fine thank you ma”.

“Riley take them to your room”, Mrs Evelyn said and Riley reluctantly lead them.
She hasn’t spoken a word to him since.
She led them upstairs to her room silently.
When tyra and cris got to her room, The first thing tyra noticed was a picture of on her wall and there were holes on the pictures.
The eyes and mouth were gone in the picture.
She probably Stab the picture when she’s mad at him.
“She hates me that much”, Tyra said to himself.
Her room was scattered and Riley bowed her head in embarr@$$ment. She didn’t remember I’d not she would have left them downstairs to quickly arrange it.
She packed her clothes that were on the bed and floor and also the books she had scattered in her room.
“Wear this”, She gave cris her hoodie and left.
Her mom asked her to give tyra her blanket since it was cold outside. She got to the room and met tyra shivering and sweating. He kept moving round the bed uncomfortable.
She tou-ched his forehead to check his temperature and it was hot…… very hot.
“Jeez he’s sick!”, She Complained.
