NARRATOR’S POV
Mrs Paul immediately went on her knee and confessed everything to her husband and left nothing out
MR PAUL
Was that how bad our daughter was that you had to send her away to a man whose mother told you his son is a woman beater…
MRS PAUL
honey I’m sorry.
MR PAUL
you really shocked me, indeed now I believe that saying that goes “you can never know someone to the end” you gave our daughter out because you feel she’s a disgrace to us?
MRS PAUL
forgive me please, I didn’t mean any harm… I just felt if she met with someone of her kind maybe they would change each other….and honey it worked…. my friend said they are now in love.
MR PAUL
Wi you shut that thing you call a mouth before I shut it for you?
Mrs Paul was so shocked, because all their years in marriage her husband has never yelled at her or even threaten to heat her up before…. she knew de-ep down she has really hurt her loving and caring husband and she pray this doesn’t break them.
MR PAUL
What kind of a mother are you? were you even thinking with your head when you gave your dsui out to a friend you haven’t seen in years? you said they are now in love and you expect me to jump up and clap my hands for you, for doing something foolish…. what if chenemi isn’t a strong child…. would we still be saying the same thing? what if the woman has used our daughter for child trafficking? where was your sense woman?
MRS PAUL
(Crying bitterly)

MR PAUL
my family persuaded me to get a second wife after the doctor said you could no longer born me another child…i stood by you, fought my family for your sake and you dare gave my only child away because of friendship? aah you really hurt me.
Mrs Paul grabbed her husband’s leg and wept, but for the first time in many years Mr Paul ignored his wife’s cry…. He removed her hand from his leg.
MR PAUL
I give you from now till tomorrow, if you don’t produce my daughter…..you will regret marrying me.
he said and walked out on his wife…. Mrs Paul immediately picked her phone and called Mrs Stella.
MRS STELLA
you ended the call, hope nothing happened
MRS PAUL
(Crying)
my own is about to be over ooh, my husband has found out the truth…. he over heard our conversation.
MRS STELLA
Jesus Christ…. I guess he is very angry
MRS PAUL
he said his daughter must return home first thing tomorrow morning else he would deal with me.
MRS STELLA
where is he so I could speak with him please.
MRS PAUL
he angrily left the house, I don’t know where he has gone to.
MRS STELLA
you know her pregnancy is too early for her to be over stressing it…. she might lose the baby…. what if I come down to the village tomorrow and talk to your husband myself?
MRS PAUL
All the years I have been married to my husband, he has never raised his voice at me…. the man I saw walk out just now is not a man that wants to listen to anything.
MRS STELLA
I know how betray he must be feeling… but I’m sure he wouldn’t want to lose his grandchild too no matter what… I will cosm go the village tomorrow… please just calm down and take it easy with him okay?
MRS PAUL

MRS STELLA
and please stop crying.
They ended the call and Mrs stella immediately told janet to get ready that they would he traveling the next day.
That night Amanda was waiting patiently at the door for Oscar to come back so she would give him her bag of trouble.

AMANDA
useless man, where are you coming fr by this time of the day…. you left your pregnant wife at home and went out with this thing
Oscar wanted to say something but chenemi told her not to say a thing… he kept quiet and went to the car to pack the food mum gave them.
AMANDA
I’m talking to you oscar…. where are you coming from
CHENEMI
we went to see his mother, my mother in-law…. have you met her before? oops sorry I forgot….oscar was oy sleeping with you but never introduce you to his mother because he had intention of marrying you.
AMANDA
how dare you talk to me like that?
she said raising her hand to slap chenemi
CHENEMI
if you as much come closer to me, I will make sure I beat you till that baby falls out from that Tommy of yours.
Immediately amanda stopped on her track…. she would protect this baby in her wo-mb with her life.
ANITA
who are you to challenge my sister
(she said running to meet them)
CHENEMI
I can see your bodyguard is coming go fight for you….. warn her else she would test my wrath.
ANITA
are you mad? how dare you threaten my sister….don’t you know she’s carrying the heir of this house?
CHENEMI
(she laughed)
you guys look so stupid claiming what’s not even yours to claim…. Oscar I’m very hungry, can we go inside so we could eat?
OSCAR
sure baby… I will get the things from the car…..
he went to the trunk and brou-ght out all the bags of food and came to meet his woman
OSCAR
let’s go love
Oscar and chenemi turn to walk away but Anita made the mistake of her life by grabbing chenemi’s arm… Oscar didn’t know chenemi had it in mind to slap Anita, chenemi too didn’t know Oscar had it in mind to slap Anita.
the both of them just ended up slapping her at the same time….. leaving all of them shock and surprised.
OSCAR
if you ever laid those hands of your on my woman again, I will bring out the beast I’m trying to bury….ask your sister she knows I don’t bluff.
chenemi smiled and felt very prove of her husband, she laid the way and Oscar carried his bags of food from the ground and followed his woman inside.
Anita was in total shock, she didn’t see that slap coming…
AMANDA
I’m very sorry, I told you to be careful around those two… they are crazy people.
ANITA
I can’t believe they both slapped me
AMANDA
the day I told you this girl beat me off and Oscar rounded up with a final beating….you thought I was joking…. you have seen it for yourself.
Anita angrily went inside…the slap was still a shock to her.
oscar and his woman arranged the food in the fridge and went upstairs to shower…. Amanda was so hungry so she went to check what they brou-ght…. she was very happy seeing different kinds of food that she took a plate and fish for herself and sister.
They both sat down in the living to and finished one flask of food and left the plates in the living room for chenemi to come clean.

The next day Mrs steall drove to her village to see her in-laws…..she knew that what she and her friend had done was very bad so immediately she reached she and Mrs Paul went on their knees to beg me paul.
MRS STELLA
Please sir, we know we have really offended you…. please forgive us….we acted out of ignorance and foolishness.
MR PAUL
ignorance is not an excuse madam…. your friend here neglected me as her husband that’s why she gave out the oy child she gave birth to without thinking twice.
MRS STELLA
we were two desperate women who wanted nothing but good for our children….we didn’t include you in our plans because
MR PAUL
because you know I would never agree to something as stupid as that…. well I don’t have anything to say….i just want to see my daughter
MRS STELLA
as you already know sir, chenemi is carrying my son’s child…..your grandchild and it would be dangerous allowing her to travel at this early stage.
MR PAUL
When you took my daughter from my house I could swear she was still a V¡rgin…yes, chenemi was never theam type, she was always fighting, beating up people who crossed her…. so I can boldly hit my che-st and say my daughter was a V¡rgin…. you took her to your so called city and got her pregnant…..and you seat there to tell me what I don’t un-derstand? I don’t care how you do it .m. just bring my daughter back to me this minute.
Mrs Stella called on Janet to bring her phone and Janet brou-ght the phone quickly…sje called Oscar on video call…. lucky he was in the room with chenemi.
OSCAR
good afternoon mum
MRS STELLA
how are you son?
OSCAR
I’m fine…. this one you are video calling me…. hope all is well?
MRS STELLA
is chenemi there with you?
OSCAR
yeah…. mum what’s wrong? you look…..
MRS STELLA
please give her the phone.
oscar woke chenemi up and gave her the phone, immediately she saw Mrs Stella she smiled and greeted her.
MRS STELLA
how are you?
CHENEMI
I’m not fine mum, you won’t believe oscar’s baby mama and sister ate my soup…..the soup you cooked for me.
MRS STELLA
I will cook another one for you when I come back…..
chenemi looked closely and notice the background look so much like her father compound…. she couldn’t help but ask Mrs stella
CHENEMI
mum are you in the village?
MRS STELLA
yes dear…. your father is here, your mom too…. they want to speak with you.
chenemi sat up comfortably well on the bed when she heard her parents were thete…. Mrs stella took the phone to Mr Paul and gave it to him.
MRS STELLA
chenemi want to speak with you.
Mr Paul didn’t want to accept the phone before, but he kept quiet when his daughter’s face popped on the scream.
CHENEMI
(Smiling)
good afternoon papa
MR PAUL
oh my beautiful daughter, how are you? are you okay? hope you ain’t in any danger.
CHENEMI
I’m fine papa…how are you?
MR PAUL
I have been so worried about you…. so worried…..
CHENEMI
but why papa? you know I was getting married….it just pained me that you and mum secretly gave my hand in marriage without telling me…..but it’s find now I now love the man I’m married to.
MR PAUL
I never gave your hand out in marriage my daughter…..I would never do that to my princess… it was all your mother and that man’s mother’s plan…. I was never part of that plan.
Oscar and chenemi looked at themselves in disbelief…. they couldn’t believe Mrs Stella had lie to them for a year pretending they were married.
CHENEMI
so you mean mum and Mrs Stella planned all this? but why papa?
MR PAUL
thru thought you both are the worse human on Earth so they marge a bad person with another bad person not minding the outcome.
CHENEMI
this comes to me as a shock papa…. where is mama?
MR PAUL
she’s here.
chenemi demanded to speak with her mother, Mr Paul gave his wife the phone….. she immediately started crying when she saw her daughter.
MRS PAUL
forgive me my child, I’m so sorry
CHENEMI
in as much as it hurt me that my own mother would give me out because she thought of me was useless… I still want to thank you for giving me such opportunity to meet this man…. he isn’t perfect mama, we went throu-gha lot but I’m glad the storm ended and we can now look at each other and smile….. so I’m not angry mum.
she said smooching Oscar’s hand, Oscar collected the phone and spoke to Mr Paul and his wife… he apologize on behalf of his mother and mother in-law.
He promised to bring chenemi home for a proper introduction and engagement.
MR PAUL
I was so angry yesterday but after listening to you, my anger had vanished…. you are indeed a wise boy… … I will wait till when I see you and my daughter.
OSCAR
we would have come by next week but there’s something at hand chenemi and I are trying to handle first… we will see you as soon as possible.
They talked for a while, mr Paul saw his daughter face one more time before they ended the call….. Mrs Stella and her friend apologized again and Mr Paul forgave them.
Immediately Oscar ended the call he turn to look at chenemi
OSCAR
I can’t believe this women pranked us.
CHENEMI
I’m telling you…. to have thought we we’re married.
OSCAR
(He laughed)
mother’s…..there’s nothing they can’t do just to protect their children’s future.
CHENEMI
I’m hungry Oscar
OSCAR
babe, I’m beginning to wonder what’s happening…. you eat too much this days.
CHENEMI
that’s because I’m eating for two.
OSCAR
You are eating for two? how do you mean?
CHENEMI
(She robbed her stomach)
I’m expecting oscar.
oscar came down from the bed to look at her very well…. he wasn’t sure if he un-derstood what she was trying to tell him.
OSCAR
you are pregnant?
CHENEMI
(she nods)
yes baby, I’m a month gone…. I came back after I found out I was carrying your child… our baby.
Oscar jumped on the bed and ki-ssed her, he pulled away, looked at her face again and ki-ssed her.
OSCAR
thank you baby and I’m very sorry…. thank you for going to make me a father…. and I’m sorry that you had to find out that you are pregnant alone….. I’m so sorry nany.
CHENEMI
it’s okay oscar…I forgive you and I love you
Oscar smiled de-eply, it was actually the first time chenemi profess her love to him… he ki-ssed her again.
CHENEMI
now that you know I’m pregnant…. csm you give me food now?
OSCAR
I will cook you noodles now….i promose to take you out on a date tonight.
CHENEMI
(Happy)
really? you will take me out?
OSCAR
yes baby…. anywhere you want.
CHENEMI
okay, okay, please get me the noodles first….
Oscar came down from the bed and ki-ssed chenemi for the last time before heading to the kitchen…. his heart was filled with gladness that he would soon become a dad.
