Océane was dumbfounded. She never expected to meet her father in such circu-mtance. How was she going to believe he was the real person.
“How’s Oceania? Father, mother Anais, Coral, Nathan.. and everyone?”
“They’re fine.. I guess” Océane replied coming to believe him since he knew everyone in Oceania “Father and Nathan are dead”
“What? When?”
“8 years ago father died and Aunt Coral killed Nathan”
“Has coral become so evil now?”
“Really evil. She wants to rule”
Leo looked at her n£¢k “Where’s the n£¢klace? Who’s ruling?”
“It’s safe”
“With who?”
“It’s a long story”
“You have to tell me everything” Leo said and they sat on a stone
“First, you have to tell me about my mother. Who’s she? I really want to see her” Océane said anxiously
Leo’s countenance changed “She’s dead”
“Oh!”
“I miss her too. Losing both wife and child wasn’t easy for me”
“Am sorry”
“I should be the one apologizing for not being there for you as a father and mother giving you a mother. It was all p@rt of my mistake”
“It wasn’t your fault that you found love amongst humans”
“I shouldn’t have. If I had married a mermaid then u would’ve given you the life you deserve”
“Do you regret my mother?”
“I’ve never regretted Elsa for one day. What I regret is you growing up without your parents”
“You don’t have to regret. I survived”
Leo smiled and placed his hand on hers “if I should die now, then I died a happy man because I saw you today”
“Am more happier. Life hasn’t been fair to me” Océane said sadly
“You have to forgive your father’s mistakes. I just hope you don’t make the same mistake”
Océane adjusted unconsciously with a feeling of guilt.
“Tell me everything that has been happening in Oceania and why you’re here on land”
Océane went on to narrate everything that happened and how Neptune died resulting to Nathan’s death and her been thrown into the dungeon and how Warren helped her get away after 8 years and about Lovane’s plans with Coral and her visit to land. But she excluded every detail about Kyle. She didn’t want to disappoint Leo.
“All for one man’s mistake” Leo said when she was done narrating then asked “where’s the n£¢klace now?”
Océane thought for a perfect lie. She couldn’t tell him she gave it to a human, he would be so disappointed.
“I hid it” she lied
“In where?”
“The place I live but I don’t know the way back”
“Here in Mexico?”
“Yes”
“Then we have to find it. Coral is evil and she must be oppressing the merpeople. I’ll have to get back the throne”
“Finally someone is going to be fighting with me. It was difficult me against aunt Coral and Lovane”
“Am very sorry about everything”
“No more sorry(es) okay?! Love isn’t a bad thing”
“It’s a bad thing when you fall in love with a human” Leo said and stared at her suspiciously “what have you been up to since you c@m£ to land?”
“Nothing in p@rticular”
“You haven’t been d@t!ngright?”
“Am 20, there’s nothing wrong with d@t!ng” Océane laughed then asked “where do we go from here?”
“we swim”
“swim? To where?”
“As far as we can go. I’ve got a house but since we lost the sh!p, we have to swim”
Océane laughed and dove into the water “I miss swimming”
“Let’s see how fast you can swim– if you took over me” Leo said and also dove into the water
“I bet I’ll win”
“Let’s see” Leo gestured and the swam off

“Are we done?” Kyle asked impatiently when the last picture for the wedding magazine was taken. He was alre-ady bored with the c@m£ra cl!çk!ng and taking pictures of him and Ninon.
“We’ll take five then return for the last pictures but you’ll have to change your outfit” the director replied
“Are the pictures enough yet? We’ve changed for five times” Kyle yelled
“Let’s end the shoot” Ninon interfered “am also tired” she added knowing Kyle had gotten furious
“Alright, we’ll meet again tomorrow” the director said
“Tomorrow?” Kyle snarled
“For the… ”
“My best man will do the rest” Kyle cut in and walked out and the crew in the studio bur-st into laughter
“Silence!” The director bellowed and silence fell
“We’ve taken more than enough pictures alre-ady” Ninon said
“we’re still finding it ha-rd to choose a perfect cover ph0to” the ph0togra-pher said
“just pick anyone from the pictures we took” Ninon said
“Alright but you didn’t do and almost-k!sspose” the director said
Ninon chuckled “Kyle wouldn’t do that and besides I still insist that we took enough”
The director shrugged and said “if you say do”

“How did the shoot go?” Melvin asked sl@pping Kyle on the back
“Fine” Kyle replied curtly and fell back on the couch
“I’ve got news about Océane”
“Keep it”
Melvin hissed loudly “are you sure of what you’re doing?”
“Melvin am getting married, you shouldn’t be talking of any other girl”
“Am not talking of ‘any other girl’ am talking of the girl you love”
“You’re talking of a girl that doesn’t love me. I don’t want to hear anything about Océane”
“Then I’ll get her for myself. We’ll settle down and make babies”
“I don’t care Kyle said with a wave of the hand
“you don’t care but you’re still wearing her n£¢klace”
Kyle t©uçhed the n£¢klace “this doesn’t mean that I care” he took off the n£¢klace for the first time and tossed it aside. He felt a f0rç£ leave him and he remembered Océane’s words

Kyle looked at the n£¢klace and looked away.

Ninon arrived home really tired. She tossed her back aside and sat in the sofa with her legs crossed on the table.
“You’re back” Manon said descending the stairs “welcome”
Ninon sighed “I don’t want this marriage”
“Don’t let your father hear that” Manon warned and sat beside Ninon “What happened at the shoot?”
“Nothing! Kyle is acting cool but I know he isn’t cool with it”
“That shouldn’t be your concern. As long as he isn’t calling off the wedding”
“This is wrong can’t you see it? Am pregnant and…”
“You’re what?” Fredo walked in
“Dad?!” Ninon got scared
“you’re pregnant?”
“That wasn’t what she meant?” Manon defended
“I don’t want to hear from you Manon” Fredo hurled and faced Ninon “what did I hear you say?”
“Fredo you’re taking this too far” Manon yelled “Ninon is my child and she isn’t pregnant”
“I heard you clearly”
“I said that the fragrance oil is nice. you didn’t let me finish” Ninon lied
Fredo scoffed not believing what she said “I don’t mind killing you if what I heard is true. You can’t bring shame and disgrace to this family” he seethed and walked out
“you’re so loud mouthed” Manon accused in a whisper
“I didn’t know he was coming”
“That’s why you don’t have to raise your voice when talking about it”
“what do we do now?”
“Reasons why you have to get rid of it”
“madre you don’t un-derstand”
“Then make me un-derstand”
Ninon let out her breath slowly “there’s nothing you nee-d to know” she said calmly
“Then what happened at the hospital?”
“I ran away cause I don’t want to ab-ort the baby” Ninon lied
“you can’t keep it”
“But am going to.. the baby is mine and I don’t want to murder my own child”
“it isn’t murder silly! There’s no child, just blood”
“Then you should’ve ab-orted me. Why did you keep me?”
“Because I didn’t get pregnant out of wedlock”
“I don’t care! Am keeping my baby and that includes calling off the wedding”
“The news of the wedding is on air. You can’t bring us shame. You father won’t hear of it”
“Then am keeping my baby”
“you can’t keep a baby without a father”
Ninon thought about Melvin and didn’t notice that teats were rolling down her cheeks “he doesn’t even care”
Manon wiped her tears “who is he?”
Ninon sniffles “I don’t know him”
Manon flared up “you’re not going to keep that baby without a father. You’re marrying Kyle and that involves getting rid of that abomination you call a child” and she stormed out

Océane got to the bank and swam out. “I won!” she squealed raising her hands up in the air
Leo was still far in the water “am not young anymore” He said swimming slowly to meet Océane
“so what do you say about me?”
“you’re as good as your father”
Océane frowned and Leo un-derstood why.
“Alright! You’re better than your father” he said and she smiled
“Where are we now?” Océane asked
“I don’t really know” Leo replied
“Why am I always getting lost?” Océane asked herself and suddenly wished Kyle was lost with her
Leo got to the shore and swam out. He sat down and took off his shi-t “we look like human merpeople” he said and wrung out the shi-t
“cause we still have our clothes on?” Océane asked
“yes”
she proceeded to get up and her tail turned to legs
“is that how you change?” Leo asked and Océane nodded. He dove into the water and c@m£ out almost immediately with legs.
“How did you do that?” Océane asked
“I don’t know” Leo grinned and they started walking out
“we just have to walk till we find people and ask them where we are” Leo said
They talked of less important things as they walked towards till they got near a cave.
“someone is in there” Océane said as the approached the cave
Leo paused and listened to the sniffles coming from the cave “This could be a tra-p. Let’s go”
“No! Let’s see who it is. We could be of help” Océane persuaded
Leo was reluctant at first but he suc¢v-mbe-d to Océane’s plea-s and they walked into the cave. They traced the sobs to a dark corner in the cave. There was a girl sitting in a stone with her back to them.
Immediately she heard their footsteps, he sobs ceased. Océane and Leo took few st©p towards her but she st©pped them.
“Don’t hurt me! plea-se!” she sobbe-d and they paused
“we want to help” Océane said “am Océane”
The girl whirled around “Océane?!”
Océane recognized her immediately “Yasmine?!” she ran and hvgged her “what are you doing here?”
“I never believed I would see anyone before I die” Yasmine sobbe-d
“What happened to you?”
“Those men– they ruined us”
“am sorry”
“it’s not your fault” Yasmine said and looked up at Leo “who’s he?”
Océane looked at Leo not knowing what to say. She was finding it difficult to introduce him as father.
Leo un-derstood what she was thinking of and c@m£ to her rescue “am Leo” he introduced himself “Océane’s father”
“Am Yasmine”
“let’s get out of her” Leo said “caves around here aren’t safe”
“I’ve been here for days” Yasmine said and stood up
“you’ve been lucky for days” Leo said
Yasmine looked tattered. Her hair was dirty and her dress was torn.
“Am hungry” she said “I haven’t eaten for days”
“we’ll find something to eat on our way” Leo said
“Thanks for finding me” Yasmine said
“you don’t nee-d to thank me. I owe you” Océane said as they walked out of the cave
Yasmine smiled “How’s Kyle?”
Leo glanced at them and Océane nudged Yasmine
“What?” Yasmine asked in a whisper and Leo cleared his throat.
She un-derstood why and she chuckled.

Melvin sat alone on the deck as he stared at the n£¢klace. There was something about the n£¢klace that he nee-ded to find out. He took out his phone and took a picture of the n£¢klace. He would use it to research on the n£¢klace.
Lovane walked out from behind and saw him with the n£¢klace. Her eyes shone in amusement and excitement. The n£¢klace was finally in her reach and no one was wearing it.
“How did you get that?” she asked
Melvin whirled around to see Lovane approaching him. “From Kyle” he replied
“Can I see it?” she made to t©uçh it but he withdrew his hand taking it far from her reach
“am busy with it”
“can I have it when you’re done?ĺ
“I don’t think so” Melvin said. He was going to use it to win Océane’s heart.
“Why?” Lovane frowned
“Why do you want it?”
“Cause it’s beautiful and rare” Lovane lied
“That’s why I also want to keep it”
Lovane say on the chair beside him “I haven’t asked you for a favor before” she said calmly
Melvin looked at her “and I’ll grant whatever favor you ask but not this one”
“But…. ”
Melvin k!$$£d her “let me think about it” he got up and walked inside
Lovane stamped her feet angrily as she watched Melvin enter the mansion. “I’ll get that n£¢klace from you. Even if it’s the last thing I’ll do”

Kyle was restless all throu-gh the night. He regretted taking off the n£¢klace. No matter how he tried to hide it, be really loved Océane and he felt he had betrayed her. He took his phone and tried calling Melvin but his pride wouldn’t let him. He knew Melvin would mock him and he didn’t want that. Kyle tried slee-ping but Océane’s voice was echoing in his head.
“What have I done?” he asked himself and got up with a start. He was sweating profusely. Kyle t©uçhed his n£¢k and wished the n£¢klace would appear but he didn’t. He spent the night lying wi-de awake.
Early the next morning, Kyle called Melvin on the phone.

📲 What’s wrong Kyle? you sound tensed

📲 You want it back?
📱my life depends on it now
📲 you should’ve listened to me. Love is stronger than you think

Kyle ended the call.
He brushed his teeth and took his bathe then waited for Melvin to come.
2 HOURS LATER….
Kyle was getting very impatient. He was still tired after staying awake all night and Melvin wasn’t showing up. Kyle tried calling him but he wasn’t answering his phone.
“What’s happening?”
1 HOUR LATER…
Kyle’s phone rang and he hurriedly picked it from the table. Melvin was calling.

📲 Am sure I kept it in my drawer but u can’t find it again
📱No one could’ve taken it. You live alone so find it
📲 Lovane is staying with me. I think she stole it
