CHAPTER 54
Daphne felt pain all over her body. Her bones felt like they can’t be moved again. She completely felt like she was paralyzed. Opening her eyes to find herself still alive, she wondered how she managed to make it when she was on the verge of death before.
She got scared seeing Jared beside her. She remembered Tiana’s words vividly. She panicked that Tiana could appear from nowhere seeing them together. Though she loves him, she feels that letting him go would be the best option for her.
She had been suffering her whole life with her father. The same thing is now happening again. Those girls would continue to beat her until she leaves Jared or she ends up dying.
“She did this to me because of you. I’ve been beaten up by my father my entire life. Now I have to go throu-ghthe same because of you. Why is it always me?” She lamented crying.
Jared tried so ha-rd to hold back his tears. He wouldn’t cry like this usually, but Daphne is just special to him. He feels something unique and different whenever she is around him. He has the urge to keep her by his side forever and never let her go.
“Who is she?” He asked, his blood boiling in anger.
His eyes colour changed getting Daphne scared. He saw how scared she was, he calmed down and held her hand again.
“Please Daphne, tell me who she is. I won’t let her go for doing this to you!” He pleaded.
She scoffed in pain, “Like you would. Who else do you think would call her friends to beat me to death because of you?”
Jared got a hint right after she said that. His eyes turned dark, his fists balled in anger.
“Tiana did this to you? How dare she do this to you?! How dare she?!” He growled.
“Are you going to defend me against her? What will you do to her? Are you going to beat her up like she beat me too? Don’t you feel ashamed to have me as your girlfriend?” The never ending saga of her asking questions at once.
He shook his head in frustration. She sure talks a lot for someone who is still in pain at the hospital. She just escaped death, yet she only cares about who he is going to support.
“Why don’t you get well first? I don’t want you to be in pain anymore. Let me handle this on my own.” He replied sighing.
“Of course, you would choose her over me. You have known her for a long time right? You can’t blame her for doing this to me…”
“That’s not it…”
She stopped him, “Please call my stepmother and William. They seem to be the only ones who cares about me. You can go ahead and be with your beautiful girlfriend for all I care.”
Jared really felt frustrated. But there was nothing he could do about it. He really felt different with her, a feeling he now un-derstands what it means. It’s not just the mate bond, but what they have been able to get together themselves.
“Please Daphne, please don’t do this. I can’t stand seeing you like this. You may think that we just met, you don’t un-derstand how I feel about you. I love you Daphne…”
Her eyes wide-ned when he said that. She knows he likes her a lot, but confessing love? So fast? Is that how the mate bond works?
“Say that again… Why did you stop?” She commanded.
He scratched his head nervously. He has never confessed love to any girl before. Not even Tiana. Even Umbrie teases him that he can never get the courage to confess love to a girl since he is so cold and mean.
“I… I…”
“Why are you stuttering? You can’t say it? I knew it, you still like that Tiana..”
“No… I love you. I only want you. I don’t want anything to do with her anymore. I hate her for doing this to you, I promise you.” He said quickly.
He was expecting her to calm down and smile but she started crying. This made him worry about her. He didn’t un-derstand if it’s the pain she feels that is making her cry or she’s just emotional about the confession.
“She beat me up with her friends saying I should leave you alone. I can’t stand seeing you anytime I remember what they did to me. It’s not my fault, my father left me traumatized and I am always scared of getting beaten again.” She cried.
Jared moved closer to her and hu-gged her. He kizzed her hair, “Trust me, she won’t get away with this. She will pay for what she did and she’ll surely apologize to you.”
“I don’t know… I don’t want her apology. She wants you back, perhaps you should…”
“You want me to go back to her?” Jared cuts her off, she looked away from him. He brou-ght her face back, “Listen to me Daphne, I will never leave you. Even if you ask me to, I won’t leave you. I am yours, not Tiana’s. Why do I have to keep telling you what exists between us?”
“How am I going to endure till she kills me?” She asked tearfully.
“She won’t do such a thing to you… I’m going to leave when there is someone here to watch over you.” He kizzed her head.
Daphne did not say anything else, she just let him comfort her. She was happy that he confessed to her, but feels like she won’t be at peace until Tiana leaves her alone. She wondered how Jared would handle the situation of Tiana doing this to her.
But then she still wanted to trust him and let him do what he wants.
Jared waited for her to fall asleep again before leaving to call her stepmother from her phone. She sounded so worried and mad on the phone. She had also been calling Daphne when the phone suddenly went off. She suddenly got worried not knowing where her friend lives or her possible whereabout.
He waited for her stepmother who doesn’t know who he is to arrive. Thankfully William came with her, at least he knows who Jared is. William still had a smile on his face, since he hasn’t seen Daphne’s condition yet. He was thinking of how to tease her when he got there.
“Young man, are you the one who called me here?” She asked Jared.
He nodded, “Yes I did. Hi William.”
“Hello bro, good to see you again.” William replied.
Mrs Vincent, Daphne’s step mother turned to look at her nephew, William. “Do you know him?”
“Mom, this is Daphne’s boyfriend.” William prese-nted.
Mrs Vincent nodded, “I see. Where is she? What really happened to her? I rushed here and I can’t wait to see her.”
“Come with me.” Jared took them to Daphne’s ward leading the way.
Mrs Vincent and William’s eyes wide-ned in shock when they saw Daphne’s condition. She broke into tears immediately rushing to Daphne’s side. William’s expression changed.
Jared had not really told them what happened due to the fact that he did not want to scare them. He wanted them to come see for themselves and from the looks of things, this won’t go down well. Daphne has a family who really cares about her and Tiana just made a very big mistake.
“What happened to my sweet girl? Who did this to you?” Mrs Vincent cried.
“What thefu-ck is going on?! What happened to her?” William asked Jared angrily.
“She got beat up by some girls. I was also called to the hospital.” Jared explained.
“They are girls? Damn it! I’m going to call the police then.” William took out his phone to call the police.
Jared did not stop him, he was ready to let Tiana face the law for what she did. He could not do anything than to vent his anger on Tiana, he still wouldn’t be able to hit her. But Tiana facing the law would make things easier for him. She would get whatever punishment that would be given onto her.
“Who could do this to her? Look at how she is. It’s like she was hit by a truck, how can they be so heartless to beat her like this? I know Daphne never fights people. What did she do wrong to deserve this much? This is way too much for me to bear.” Mrs Vincent continued to cry.
“I have to go to the police station mom, I’ll be right back.” William informed and left without looking back.
Jared felt like telling them it was Tiana. But his weak side won’t let him give her away. Instead, he wants Daphne to do the talking herself. So he decided to leave to go check on Tiana first.
“I have to leave now… I have to get back to something quickly, I won’t take long to come back.” Jared informed them.
Mrs Vincent nodded, “Thank you young man. I’m so glad you called me, I don’t know what I would do if something happens to her. I feel like I am unable to protect her enough. After all she went throu-ghwith her father, I promised her this would never happen again.”
“I promise, the one who did this won’t get away with it.” He @$$ured her.
“I hope so. I want to catch those bitc-hes and put them where they deserve to be!”
‘This won’t end well for you Tiana. I am more than highly disappointed in you.’
CHAPTER 55
Jared stopped at Tiana’s house. Then he called her to meet him outside. He only waited a few minutes before she burst out the door happily. She looked happy that Jared came to see her. She did not think about why he must have come, she thought he’s just here to get back together.
“Wow. You’re here to see me already?” She said excited, she tried hu-gging him but he stopped her.
“Really Tiana? You’re asking me that? Is this why you did that to Daphne? You think that would make me come to you because I am so scared you and your friends would beat her up again?”
Tiana was taken aback by his sudden outburst. She saw how his eyes changed colour and how angry he is. She moved back, scared and thinking he might hurt her.
“Why are you looking at me like that? I did nothing wrong! She deserves it! She just came out of nowhere to take you away from me! You think it is that easy for me to let you go??!” Tiana yelled, knowing she got caught already.
Jared could not believe the level of evil in her. He used to think she was this sweet and gentle girl that won’t hurt anyone. That’s what she has always been like even when Umbrie showed dislike for her. He has never been able to look at this side of her before. It is overwhelming how much evil she has left in her.
Only an evil person would do such a thing to someone who did nothing to you. Not just that, Tiana knows the reason why he got together with Daphne. Yet she still chose to hurt the poor Daphne who has nothing to do with them.
“I can’t believe this. You know, you would be dead now if it wasn’t for what I was thinking. Though I feel guilty for breaking up with you so suddenly. I have been feeling bad everyday, but I have to face my reality. I am not human, and Daphne is my reality…”
“Couldn’t you just ask the moon goddess that you believe in to make me your mate? We could still be happy without her coming into the picture! She ruined everything we had.” Tiana complained more.
Jared shook his head, “You are wrong Tiana. You ruined whatever we had. Like I said, I used to feel guilty until you did this. You have proven to me that I made no mistake letting you go. You would end up being toxic later on, you don’t deserve to be with me. You are evil Tiana…”
“No… Don’t say that to me please…” She started crying.
“You used to be so warm and kind. I thought you were a nice girl. I never thought you could be this evil to the extent of hurting someone who did nothing to you. I won’t hurt you Tiana, but I promise you will pay for what you did. I don’t ever want to see your face around me.” He warned her sternly, his voice as cold as ever.
Tiana sobbed as he has never shown her his very cold side before. Though he is cold, he still managed to be nice to her most times at least. To her, she found him attrac-tive like that.
“Please Jared, don’t say that to me. I love you a lot, I don’t want to lose you. I’m sorry please.” She tried touching him, he stopped her again leaving her agitated.
“I won’t repeat myself again. Don’t come close to me or show your face to me again. You should have thought twice before doing something so evil and childish. I was never yours from the beginning, you just misun-derstood everything…” He turned to leave, “You don’t owe me an apology, you should apologize to the person you tried to kill.”
He did not turn back to look at her as he left quickly before he would do something nasty. Seeing Tiana made him so angry that he just wanted to put her in her place. He decided to go get something for Daphne to eat and went back to the hospital.
Tiana watched him leave, she ran inside the house and locked herself up in her room. She thought about what would happen to her now that Daphne spilled that she did this. Would she go to jail? Would they do the same to her too? What would happen if her parents find out?
Tiana knows how strict and disciplined her parents her. They won’t forgive her for this easily. She cried more silently, unable to think of a way out of the situation. Jared now hates her, what is her gain doing all of this? This was all Emma’s idea, she thought.
Tiana held her head in frustration, “What am I going to do? I can’t go to jail! My parents would kill me if they found out. They’ll never trust me again. I promised I won’t cause them any trouble, now what should I do?”
She looked for her phone and decided to call her friends. She called Emma first, Emma wasn’t picking up so she decided to call Alice.
“What’s up Tiana?” Alice said from the other side.
Tiana sniffles, “Alice… I’m scared. She woke up and told Jared everything. I thought she would be too scared to speak. Turns out she isn’t, the police would come after us when her family finds out.”
“WHAT?! WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO NOW?! I CAN’T GO TO JAIL!!” Alice yelled from the other side.
Tiana nodded like Alice was there. “That’s exactly what I am saying. We have to do something, my parents would kill me if they find out.”
Alice sighed angrily, “Seriously? This is all your fault. You listen to whatever Emma has to say and now look! She’s gotten us into trouble. I told you right? That beating was way too much for her, we should have just warned her without doing that. My parents are going to be so disappointed in me. I did not learn martial arts to bully others.”
“I don’t know what to do, I’m afraid they will come after us soon.”
“I can’t believe I got myself into this! You said we won’t get caught! We should have just used the old method! Now look! I hate our friendship!” Alice hung up angrily.
Tiana cried more after Alice hung up. She patiently locked herself up, praying they don’t find her. Even if she runs away, there is nowhere to run to. To top it all, she lost Jared who she wanted badly. Now her friend is mad at her, her parents won’t be so kind either when they find out. She now regrets everything.

Kieran was at the office patiently waiting for Umbrie’s competition to start. He was too eager and restless, excitement also ran throu-ghhim at the same time. At least he was able to help his parents around the company, and learning things about the business for the first time. He is beginning to think it’s not as bad as he thinks.
The door opened and his mother walked in. He was facing the television keenly. He could not wait for Umbrie to appear on the screen. He did not notice his mother come in, hence the never ending saga of him getting a heart attack.
“Is there something we don’t know? You seem to be very interested in the TV. What is about to happen?” His mom asked him making him jump.
“Mom! Stop! Stop doing this to me! I would really get a heart attack one day if this continues!” He complained holding his heart dramatically.
“I told you to always be prepared. I don’t know what to do with you flinching like a child everytime.” She palmed her face. “Are you going to tell me why the TV is so interesting now?”
“It’s her competition mom. Umbrie’s at this competition represe-nting our school. Aren’t you proud of her?” He replied proudly.
“She is really intelligent and smart. I am proud of her, I wish I could say the same for my son.” She teased.
He frowned, “So you are not proud of me?”
She shook her head, “That’s not it, but maybe that could be it… Let’s watch it together anyways. I’m interested in knowing what would happen.”
They both sat down to watch the competition start. Kieran made a wish before the contestants were announced. There are so many schools around, it took a while to announce their school. There he saw Umbrie and clapped loudly.
“That’s my girl!” He cheered though she can’t hear him.
Umbrie received a lot of applause for introducing herself and school in a very smart and fun way. Soon, the competition took off and they watched in anticipation. They watched as schools got eliminated round by round, the room was tense as to who would win. Kieran believes in his girlfriend that she could totally pull it off.
