As we were Changing up I turned and looked at Treasure,
“Who arranged for the food? I asked her when I remembered I saw something like plates on the table.
“Chinwe did, she replied.
“But you lied right? Was Uche not at home when you delivered the cake? I asked and she smiled.
“He was at home but he told me not to tell you sha, but what made you that angry? She asked back.
‘Never mind, I said flitting my perfume and I was done as I turned myself looking at the mirror and I loved what I was seeing.
“Done? She asked.
“Yea, I replied and we c@m£ out together.
I held hands with Uche as he gave me a glas-s of wine, while Treasure pas-sed straight to start sharing the food as the p@rty has begun.
We talked, laughed and pu-ll-ed the legs of Chinwe p@rticularly….. the pregnancy really reduced the running of her mouth and wahala and we made jest of her.
The funniest p@rt is we were arguing of the name to call her baby not minding the husband there.
The names we brou-ght out that night eh, especially that of Linda crush made us laugh out our stomach.
“But wait o, na my pikin Una dey carry pl@yso ba? Chinwe asked.
“Who dey pl@yfor here? You know the oxford dictionary I put for ground comot that name so? No vex me o, the funniest said.
“Igbo names no dey for Una dictionary? Treasure asked.
“Abeg e don do e don do, enough of the name talk, there’s something important I want to do tonight, Uche said with a serious look that made his friends laughed.
“we-tin dey work this one now? Linda crush asked.
“Let’s hear him out after all its his day, what do you want to do? Chinwe husband said and he heaved cleaning his face and looked at me.
I was eager to know what’s he’s going to say or do because of the mood he used in saying it,
‘It must be something really important, I thought as I saw him held my hand and went down on his knee bringing out a ring.
Chinwe jumped out while my mouth flew open, to be sincere I lest expected it.
“Dorathy, I want to seal every memories we have shared together for life. You know since the first day I met you, my life took a different and new turn. I’ve never been so lucky, I’ve never had so many good opportunities and I’ve never been a better man not until you c@m£. And I’m asking you on this day of my birth to plea-se be my wife, he dropped and Chinwe gave me the pinch of my life that brou-ght me back to this realm as I was not able to say anything.
“Yes yes! I shouted and he put the ring into my f!nger and k!$$£d me so pas-sionately until I felt my b©dy was we-t, when I looked up behold they were pouring wine on us. I screamed for my hair i recently did but let it slide remembering how Chinwe was baptized also when she said yes to her husband.
The p@rty c@m£ to end and the guys left for their h0tel and Chinwe left to have her rest.
I and Treasure did a little mopping because of the wine poured on me before I retired to be-d.
“Congratulations once again sister, its so beautiful, Treasure said when she met me looking at it and I smiled nodding my head and drew her to sit beside me.
“They say life is turn by turn, definitely I’m sure yours will come knocking soon, I said tou-ching her cheeks.
“I want a love like you and Chinwe, I mean you two are so lucky to have a man like that. Considering what I’m seeing in marriages of today, I feel there’s no nee-d for it, she said and I shook my head.
“Hell no don’t say that. Chinwe was lucky, I bec@m£ lucky and you also will become lucky, there are still good men out there sweetheart. You should know our story because you were there when we fell for the bad before meeting that which was ours, but here we are, I said.
“And that’s my fear sister. None of you met your true love straight away, Chinwe almost died and you were broken, I can’t stand it if such happens to me, she said and I held her hand.
‘We were both ignorant, but we promise you, we won’t let you go throu-gh what we went throu-gh. Yours will be straightaway sweetheart, don’t think about it, I said and she smiled.
“So I’m going to take over the aso ebi p@rt again right? She asked and I laughed.
“I’m only engaged, we haven’t said anything about the wedding yet, I said.
“Hello! What makes you think that won’t come very soon like very very soon? Uche is doing marvelously well same as you, common this can take place within 3 months if you ask me because there’s no nee-d to wait anymore, she said and i heaved.
“Honestly I want this to be soon Treasure, i can’t wait to be with him alre-ady, I said and Treasure rolled her eyes while I laughed hitting her pla-yfully as we got set to rest……….
2 months later my engagement, Chinwe put to birth a bouncing baby boy.
Hey God! The joy was just out of this world!
There was mas-sive give away at every section of the eatery….. Eat as you like and take home when we got the news.
I and Treasure fled to the hospital leaving the place with the girls and the cute creature I saw made me just want to get pregnant alre-ady..
“Ahh woman of God bless me, bless me o make my pikin fine like this! I shouted and Chinwe was only laughing.
Before she could reply me, her family members entered, you nee-d to see the pres£nts they brou-ght to welcome the baby I almost fainted.
Linda called throu-gh video call and I put her throu-gh to speak to Chinwe,
“You mean because i born boy you follow born boy, you go buy me wine kwanu! Linda shouted.
“Abeg which br@nd just mention e go land, Chinwe said.
“Awwnnn he’s so sweet, in fact i am hitting Enugu soon, she said.
“No stress that my boy o, calm down we go see for Dora wedding in 2 months time, you know she was waiting for my sweetheart, Chinwe husband said.
“Yes that true, congratulations darling plea-se take Care of my sweetheart for me, Linda said to Chinwe.
“I will I will, thank you so much, Chinwe said.
“You’re welcome. And Dora i saw a dress online for you, I’ll s£nd the picture right away you’ll love it, she said and i smiled knowing her search for wedding go-wn has begun because she bought Chinwe’s own.
“Yes ma I’ll be waiting, I said and she dropped the call.
Right there in the hospital, a d@t£ for my wedding was fixed in a month time though i didn’t want it to be that soon, hut Chinwe insisted she will be strong and capable to repay all i did for her on her day…………..
I really don’t know much about Uche family, and i thought now we are about to get married he owes me some explanations.
He c@m£ down immediately when i discussed with him on phone asking who will stand as his parents on our day because i alre-ady concluded my manager will stand as my father and Linda as my mother.
He didn’t waste time to come down because he forgot about something like that, and i got to know he is the only son to his mother who got pregnant for his father outside wedlock.
Unfortunately for him his mother died when he was 8, and he had to return to his father as his mother family took him there, but his stepmother treated him as trash. That made him run away, sle-pt in bushes for weeks far away from his hometown until he was taken in by a kind man in the village who trained him to the best he could. When he pas-sed away a year after I met him in the village, that was when he knew he nee-d to start fending for himself because there was no family he could run to now.
“Dear Why not go back to your family? I asked him when he was done and he shook his head.
“After what they did to me? I mean what will i go there for when they didn’t nee-d me? He asked.
“Honey you have to go back no matter what, we nee-d our family and you’re lucky you have one somewhere, i said..
“What if they don’t still want me? Honey plea-se i can find someone to stand in as my parents same way you’ve done, he said.
“No i won’t accept, give it a try and if they still reject you, then you know you’re a free man because you made an attempt to go back, I said and he weakly looked at me as i t©uçhed him.
“Okay fine when will i be going? He asked and i smiled……….
2 days later we arrived at my village first to see if things are in order for the traditional wedding…… They knew about it before the d@t£ was fixed.
We sle-pt there ma-king sure there was no Issues before we took off to Uche place the next day.
I was expecting him to behave like a novice in his land considering the years he hasn’t stepped his legs there, but i was wrong, he took me straight to his father’s compound and I asked how he did that,
“I was secretly coming here Time to time to peep when I miss being around my family, but they are so happy without me like i never existed, he replied and i held his hand ti-ght as we slowly walked in.
