Episode 96.
Treasure was right, things were not the same again between us after Chinwe got married.
She travelled to South Africa for her honeymoon a week after her wedding, and it was just us with our education and business now.
I and Treasure only see in the morning, prepare and leave for school and meet in the evening at our working place where we will come home together and go to be-d, that was the only relationsh!pbetween I and Treasure now.
It happened that way for a month until Chinwe returned from her honeymoon and visited us.
She noticed a difference and had to address it quic-kly, but to be sincere we didn’t notice we were falling ap@rt, we thought we were still good because there has been no disagreement between us whatsoever.
We told her we are good and will try to get back as we used to be now she is back, she was so happy and shared what she brou-ght for us and everything was forgotten.
Linda was still on the case with her husband properties and she gave us a call a month later in the evening.
We just returned from work and was having a shower when the phone began to ring and I rushed out to pick it up.
“Hi good evening, I picked up.
“Evening, I was calling Chinwe but she’s not picking up, she said.
“Sorry maybe she’s busy, you know she’s not with us anymore, I replied.
“Yea I know that, I just wanted to tell you girls something, I’ll be s£nding a package to you tomorrow be expecting it, she said.
“Really? What’s that? I asked.
“You’ll know baby, she said laughing and dropped the call and I confusedly looked at Treasure who c@m£ out from the bathroom.
“What could that be? She asked me but I shook my head and called Chinwe and she picked up.
“Hey Linda has been calling, I said.
“She did? Oh sorry I was in the inner room I’ll call her back right away, she said laughing and dropped the call while I shook my head and returned back to the shower.
Immediately I c@m£ out Chinwe called back,
“Biko we-tin Linda tell you? Chinwe asked.
“She said package is coming tomorrow, e no too Clear me, we-tin she tell you? I asked back.
“Same thing o, she said she’s s£nding a package for us and we should be expecting it, she no tell me details, she replied.
“Ohr let’s see what the package is, abeg I wan sleep, I said.
“Okay baby, dream of be-dbugs tonight, she said.
“Dream of Lions with big teeth, I replied.
“Dream of me! Treasure shouted at the background.
“Yea baby, good night, Chinwe said and dropped the call………..
The next day we didn’t hear from Linda and we totally forgot about the package whatever she was s£nding, not until Treasure reminded me but I waved it aside because of tiredness.
The next morning Linda call woke me up and I sluggishly got up,
“Hi good morning, I picked up.
“Morning sleep sleep, the package has arrived joor, she said.
“You st©p pl@yna, what package is that? I asked and she laughed and told me a place i should go with Chinwe.
“Linda what are we going to see? This your package I’m not comfortable with it o, I said.
“Dora don’t be a Thomas, go and check and call me back when you see it, she said and dropped the call and I called Chinwe to deliver the message.
“Ooohhh which kind package strong like this? Na this morning we wan go? she asked.
“She just dey end the call now, so get up and get prepared, I said and dropped the call and la-id down to sleep forgetting I told Chinwe to get up, but Treasure drew me up from the be-d as she was so eager to know the package that is waiting.
We got to the place she asked us to go, and we called her up,
“Okay someone will be coming out to see you right away, she said and dropped the call and we heaved and waited to see the package as we waited outside the h0tel.
The gate opened and two men c@m£ out and we greeted them,
“plea-se come in, they said after replying us but we were reluctant to. In our minds we were like;
What is Linda pla-ying today?
“Its safe don’t worry, come in, they said and we sluggishly walked in holding our hands together.
“Looks like she didn’t tell you what you’re expecting, one of them said.
“plea-se what are we doing here and where is the package? Chinwe asked not re-ady for any discussion and they pointed at 2 clean cars parked.
“What’s that? I asked.
“That’s for you, they replied and I shook my head and called up Linda immediately,
“Yes seen them? She asked.
“Is the package a car? Like are you serious? I asked almost shouting and she was laughing.
“Yes nau, use that as your ride for now, she replied.
“St©p rou-gh pl@yna make I no comot cloth for b©dy craze for you, like is the car for us? Chinwe asked taking the phone from me.
“Babes I’m serious. I got the car from my husband properties and s£nt it to you immediately, the p@rticulars and everything is inside and its all yours, she replied and we screamed and fell on the car rolling on it.
If anyone had told me I’ll drive a car now i wouldn’t have believed, even though I nee-ded it so badly because of the stress of joining work with education, I never thought I will be a car owner this soon.
But there’s a problem, None of us knew how to drive but we didn’t let that st©p our joy.
Chinwe called her husband telling him the good news and he met us there to transport the cars to the company where it will be safe.
Chinwe took hers to the house because her 5 husband can drive while mine was covered and parked in a safe place where i can begin to use it.
I called Uche when I got home to prepare for lectures but he told me he was about to call me,
“Why what’s wrong? I asked.
“2 days ago Linda called me and asked if i nee-ded a car, but I told her a car is not my problem but breaking out from my friends to be dependent is what I’m after. She told me she will see to it, but just today she s£nt me 8 million naira and s£nt the guys 3 million naira and when I called to know how she got such an amount of money, she replied she sold the car she wanted s£nding to me and that’s the money. Dear I’m so shocked with the money in my account, i feel so scared, he said and i could feel the fear in his voice that he’s very serious.
“What do you think dear? You feel problem will set in later? I asked.
“When it comes to Fighting with people properties I’m not a p@rty to it and she was able to claim all his cars though they got 2 of his buildings which she was able to have 1. The family is still fighting to get it all that’s why she is disposing the cars and kept the jeep for herself so they won’t get it, I’m kind of worried for her, he replied.
“I un-derstand but she had an upper hand in this case, but if your heart is not settled yet, just calm down and let the money be in your account. Use this opportunity to think of a good business plan to invest it in alright, I said and he heaved.
“You’re right, and how is the ride? He asked and i began all the description excitedly while he listened and laughed whenever I said something funny……..
A year later we were all doing good not until Uche decided to visit for his birthday.
I didn’t know what to get for him as a pres£nt and I discussed it with Chinwe husband for help,
“Uhmmm get him a suit, he said.
“Uche doesn’t wear that, he moves with jeans, I sadly said.
“Uhmmmm wristwatch? He asked again.
“I got that for him last year, he replied and he began to scratch his head.
“Then get him a pair of shoes, you know his size right? He asked and I nodded.
“I think I’ll get that but he wears more of sneakers, I’ll add it with a pair of sneakers then, I said and Chinwe began laughing at me.
“What is this old woman laughing at now? I asked because she was heavily pregnant.
“See as ordinary to buy birthday gift you dey sweat, she said.
“Uche too get wahala na, most of this things doesn’t concern him and i should get something that he will treasure at least, i said.
“Hope its not my Treasure sha, she said laughing and i hissed at her and turned to her husband.
“Thank you jare, let me go get it he’s coming tomorrow, and yes you are all invited for the p@rty though a close one, I said.
“No invitation card? Chinwe asked.
“Make i no answer you first, but make i no see you with this big belle you go see me! I said and she laughed as I gave her a pe-ck and left to get Uche gift…….
The next day in the morning Uche arrived and left to Chinwe place and i wondered why he did that without even telling me.
“won’t you come to the house? I asked him on phone when he told me where he was.
“I’ll do that later, he replied.
“But you know i was waiting for you, and I’ll be going for lectures soon, I said.
“Then you can go, I’ll see you when you get back or I’ll call you when i get home, he said and i angrily dropped the call and left for lectures.
He didn’t call me throu-gh out the day and i didn’t call him nor Chinwe either, i wondered what kind of attitude is that and why should Chinwe agree for him to stay when i wanted to see him badly.
I drove Down to the company from school but didn’t see Chinwe in her section, i hissed and took a bottle of wine to calm my nerves as i was still burning up.
“Hey what’s wrong? Treasure asked behind me but I shook my head.
“Nothing, i replied.
“I thought you suppose to go home, isn’t today your b©yfri£nd……. “plea-se don’t get me angry, just leave me alone abeg, I said.
“Ahh ahh! No more p@rty again? I dropped the cake alre-ady at home o, she said.
“and did you see him at home? I asked.
“No, he should be here by now nau or was his flight delayed?She asked.
“Treasure plea-se leave me Alone, i said and she raised her hands up.
“Okay fine, she said and left.
At 7pm i decided to go home and told Treasure about it,
“Okay I’ll meet you at home, I’m still busy over here, she said and i left.
I got home and opened the door but the place was dark, I ru-bbe-d my hand on the wall and switched on the lights to see Uche dressed up on Suit smiling at me.
My mouth flew open as I saw Chinwe and her husband with the guys pres£nt,
“Welcome back Darling and thanks for the beautiful cake, he said holding my hand.
“You’re on suit? I manage to ask and he smiled.
“I hope you like it? That was why i left to Chinwe place so her husband can get me one and dress me up for tonight, it wasn’t easy though but its for you, he said and i smiled and hvgged him ti-ght.
“I love it and it suits you so well, I said laughing adjusting his tie and Treasure walked in.
“I hope I’m not late o, abeg where the p@rty rice? She asked after greeting everyone.
“I thought you said you’re not coming na soon? I asked surprised.
“And you believed it? Say we-tin happen na who no like p@rty rice? She replied and i shook my head.
“So madam can you plea-se go in and change up, you’re so sweaty, Chinwe said.
“Okay okay, i said and ran in which Treasure followed me to change up too……….
