The greatest joy of every parent, is to see their children being celebr@ted, happy, and blessed.

Valedictory service for the ss3 students.

It was very obvious that the ss3 students were fully re-ady and prepared for the day. It was the big day everyone had been waiting for. I especially, was looking forward to this day. Different smiles and laughter filled the air. It was so funny how the ss3 students were just laughing at everything.

“Wow! You’re looking beautiful.”

Is another laughter entirely. Just say anything, and they would gladly flash their teeth at you.

“Rose your hair.”

She laughed. “You’re so funny Suzy.”
Wait… I was actually not getting them. Why was everything sounding so funny to their ears?

At that point, I knew if you sl@p any of us, you will just hear us singing ‘bring it on’ by Psquare.
It was a glorious something.
Everyone walked in and out of the biggest hall in Crown school. It was beautifully decorated with ribbons, balloons, and many that I could not mention. Five chairs with a table between was arranged nicely in the hall for everyone to sit, and relax.
I was putting on my to match. From my silver go-wn, made with French lace, to my silver heels, and a small silver bag hung on my shoulder, as we moved around.
I was thinking of getting a dress, only for sister Blessing to arrive a week before, with everything I nee-ded for the day. I was so excited Mom made me a new dress. I was hoping to start learning from her how to sew because I would really love to sew different styles I want on my own.
Temi helped me with my wig. It was a very short human hair . It was so lovely and beautiful. I couldn’t believe the girls hired a make up artist. Like it was a bridal thing or what? Everyone’s makeup was on point. And I got so many faces staring at me, just like it happened on Mercy’s birthday.

“Wow! Suzy is that you?”

“Oh my God! Let me snap with you.”

“Wait… Is that not Suzy?”

It was so funny, that they almost ruined my make up. As everyone was admiring my look, Temi’s transformation got me looking at the mirror again, to be sure if I was beautiful as they said, because Temi’s look was beyond description. Was beauty p@rt of the reason why I like Temi? Well, she was beautiful in her own way.
But I couldn’t keep looking at the mirror each time I see beautiful faces coming around to greet us, because everyone did their best to look really good.
It was quarter past eleven in the morning, when I received my mom’s call that they were around. When I told the girls, the next they all shouted was…

“Yeyy!! We would finally meet your Dad!”

“Wow! Can’t believe we would meet Suzy’s dad.”

“Can’t wait to meet the hero,” they all said.

I laughed. They knew how strict Dad was, and they really couldn’t wait to see how he looks like. I guess they were just after his look. From afar, we saw them, and went towards them. Mom was surprised by my look.
“My baby is looking beautiful. Just be careful of these boys around. They are staring too much.”
I blu-shed a little even when I felt like laughing so loud. But I could hear the girls laughing. Kunmi and I weren’t putting on glas-ses, and Dad looked a bit worried, but I told him I would be fine. I introduced the girls to Dad, and I guess Mom had done a very good job gisting him about the girls, because he was so cheerful to them, that the girls were throwing me a look like,

“Suzy, this papa James ain’t strict.”
.
I just laughed.

For their mind.
Not wasting more time, the girls were alre-ady chatting with mom as if it was me.

√Exactly the time everyone was waiting for. It was twelve on dot. Everyone moved into the big hall, including the parents, and settled down. Kunmi’s Mom arrived before the time. I introduced her to Mom and Dad. Before I knew what was going on. Both mom and her were ra-pping together, that Kunmi’s mom took a seat beside my Mom.

“We welcome you all.” My favourite of all. Mr. Rafael’s voice echoed throu-gh the speakers. “We welcome you ma. We welcome you sir.” He greeted the parents. “We really appreciate you taking out of your time to honour our invitation. We are ecstatic to have you come here today to celebr@te with the celebr@nts.”

The ss3 students screamed, and cl@pped, ma-king a joyful noise.
“Thank you, thank you. Celebr@nts of today, let’s keep it low.” As Mr. Rafael said that, our voices increa-sed instead. The parents couldn’t hide their happy faces. We later kept quiet, and immediately the opening prayer was said. Followed by the national, and school anthem.

“We welcome our parents once again.” He said again, getting a thun-derous cl@p from the excited parents. “Our students had performed really great. Excellently. Brilliantly, and we are so proud of them.” The ss3 couldn’t keep calm, as they made a shout of noise into the air.

“Yeyyy!”

“Yes!!!” They beamed.

“Thank you, thank you,” Mr. Rafael continued. “We would like to thank you all for your contributions. For bringing them all into this great school. And we say a big thank you to our prefects for always t©pping and coming home with the best prizes of all.”
Everyone cl@pped.

“Now, this is the time we’ve all been waiting for to share our pres£nts to the students who have p@rticipated in their subjects beyond our expectations.” Mr. Rafael said.
“Starting with the English language,” he called one of the teachers to pres£nt the gifts. “From the t©p ten.” He bagan calling. “Finally gotten to the third position, I want us to welcome the great head girl of this school, as she comes forward for her prize.”

Dad got up immediately beside me, and hvgged me with a very big smile on his face.

Big one. Very big one.

I was glad I made him very happy.

“And taking the second position,” he smiled. “She’s always with dictionary all the time.”
All the students laughed, and shouted, “Temi!” “Temi!”
And with a very beautiful smile, she got up. My gorgeous model stood up, and walked like a queen she was. While the fair and handsome, but gentle head boy, walked to the stage and claimed the first position of the best student in English language.
There wasn’t any subject I didn’t get a prize. Coming down to physics, chemistry and mathematics. I got the best student in the three subjects, but Kunmi beat me to it in further maths. She got the best student, and I knew she deserved it. May be because I never liked further maths from the beginning. But besides that, Kunmi was good in solving calculations too. And it was a surprise I made the second position though. Gabriel whyte never missed it once, but I guess intelligence is not by the look alone.

Each time I got up to receive a prize, it was as if my Dad was the only one in the hall, because I somehow heard his cl@p than every other person in the hall. He would pat me on my back, and shook hands with me.

“Dad is proud of you girl.” He poured all his emotions saying those six words each time I took back my seat. I’ve never seen Dad so happy that way in my life. He was all smiling, and looked exactly like the papa James I’ve always wanted to see. Cheerful. Handsome. All smiling. And happy all time.

“Lastly, before we re-leased everyone.” Mr. Rafael said. “Time to recognize our overall best student for this year. Every year, the school gives out a scholarsh!pto the student who get the position for the year. And this scholarsh!pis from degree level to masters level.”

The parents rejoiced, and cl@pped.

“It has always being a boy for the past six years,” Mr. Rafael continued. “But this year, she broke it completely, ma-king us wonder what type of br@in she’s got.”
The students screamed, eager for Mr. Rafael spill out the name.
“With a standing ovation, welcome the one and only. Overall, best student. The head girl of this great school. Suzy James!” He shouted throu-gh the microphone, as a loud shout erupted from the students and all eyes were on me. My heart leapt with joy, and the first b©dy that attacked me with Joy was my mom. I wanted to hvg someone so ti-ght to hide my tears. I knew within me that it was tears of Joy, but I nee-ded someone to share it with. I hvgged Mom with all the strength in me, and bur-st into tears.

Mom finally re-leased me, and I felt the warm, loving ha-rd b©dy of my Dad gathered me and pat me on my back. “We did it dear,” he muttered.

“No daddy,” I said throu-gh my tears. “You did it. Thank you so much for always forcing me to re-ad.” I heard him re-leased a quic-k chuckle.

“Now go,” he said.

I didn’t wipe away my tears. Instead, it kept on rolling down my cheeks, as I walked towards the stage.

If I was actually allowed to go about shouting, I would shout to the world that I have the best Dad.

The idea of re-ading,

I never liked it one bit.

I never liked him for that.

But today. I realized the decision of our parents is always for the best.
Dad would say,
‘You don’t succeed by luck.’
‘You don’t succeed by chance.’
He was right. This was the result of me staying up all night just to re-ad, just to know better. The lessons weren’t just in vain.
They yielded.

I love you Daddy

I love you so, very, very much.

The tears rolled down.

I finally reached the stage, and the cheers of the whole audience was what I could hear. I saw the most happy faces from where I stood. Mom and Dad stared at me with so much joy.
“Congratulations dear.” Mr. Rafael shook hands with me. Can we have you say something to the audience.”
I collected the microphone, and the next thing that happened surprised me. I bur-st into tears. I couldn’t help but smile again, because the students and the parents encouraged me with a very loud cl@p, and my boldness c@m£ back.
“It all started with a scholarsh!p,” I said, and the whole students cheer me up. “I’m using this opportunity to say a very big thank you to the school for that. ‘Success won’t jump on you’ like my Dad would say. It is a result of something you’re doing to make it work. To the juniors pres£nt here today. Is not a bad idea to have fun, but plea-se let your education be your priority.” The parents cl@pped.
“And before I drop the mic, I’m taking this opportunity to say a very big thank you to my Mom and Dad. To my very special girls, and to all my teachers for having taught me well. Thank you,” I concluded, and everyone stood up, cl@pping again.
My parents joined me on the stage as Mr. Rafael said. Mrs Stephen herself, with the principal, joined us on stage and handed over a check of One million naira to me. I was awarded by Mrs. Stephen, who congratulated my parents and I.

And I was given a scholarsh!p, as the school chose to pay till my masters level.

“Now, let the fun begin…” Mr. Rafael declared.

✒🎧🎵p@rty After p@rty..🎺

√√

Immediately Mr. Rafael dropped the microphone, the DJ began his work. The celebr@nts of the day didn’t waste any time to get on their feet, dancing to the beat.

“Congratulations Suzy.” Debbie attacked me before anyone else could.
“Thank you,” I said. We could hear ourselves because the music wasn’t that loud.

“I’m so proud of you Suzy.” Kunmi’s voice reached out to me. She was almost in tears. I alre-ady knew why she was crying. Her Dad was not pres£nt, and I knew that got her very bad. “Hey,” I whispered into her ear “Don’t forget he’s happy for you right now. We did it Kunmi. You did not disappoint him, because you did well. So you better st©p crying now.”

She raised her head, and face me, before she finally managed to smile. “Thank you Suzy. I love you so much. I will really miss. Wish we could go to the same university, live together, and never leave each other alone.”

Aww…

I wanted to cry because it was so emotional. But I managed to smile instead. “I will miss you so much,” she said again. “I’m so happy for you for the new scholarsh!pagain. You always make me wonder what type of special br@in you have in here.” She tapped my head. The girls laughed at Kunmi, before she finally re-leased me. Temi was all smiling, with no single tear dropping. She hvgged me. “Congratulations dear. I want you to know I admire you, and really wish to be like you.”

That got me laughing.

Everyone was confessing.

To my greatest surprise, Victoria’s eyes were alre-ady welled up with tears. “Victoria, you also want to cry?”
“Because I’m going to miss you,” she said. “Guess you won’t miss us then.”
I laughed. “You guys should know that I will miss you the most. And I guess have cried so much today.”
She smiled. “Lol, congratulations on your scholarsh!p. I can’t believe I really adore you this much,” she said, and I smiled. “I do too. I expected a br@t and lazy girl, but you proved me wrong.”
She wasn’t crying anymore. Alre-ady smiling. “Really! Aww.. Not all rich girls are like that. Will miss you.”

“You guys should enjoy the music. No one is leaving now.” Rose c@m£ out of one corner, and hvgged me. “Congratulations pretty. Now everyone have fun for now,” she told us. And immediately, everyone’s mind was back to the music.

We joined the ss3 students as they sang along with the artiste.

We don graduate! Godwin!🎵

The ss3 chorused, and I laughed.🎵

As we dey go our house, na Godwin o, na Godwin o!🎵

Everyone was having fun doing the remix of Korede Bello’s song.
I couldn’t contain my laughter. It was a different fun entirely. As the next song blasted throu-gh the speakers in the hall, ma-king Victoria screamed. It was her best song. She loved the song so much, and you also can’t help but fall for the song.

🎵🎵
Joromi.. Joromi..
I want you to love me..
Joromi baby..
Joromi Joro.

🎧🎧
I dey give you signal, Joromi…
I give you green light tire..
Joromi, Joro…

We laughed at how pas-sionate she sang the song. I hope one day she would find her Joromi and I would be there to celebr@te with her.

My eyes darted round the busy hall, looking for one person I thought would come.
Suzy, have you forgotten he has traveled out of the
country?
Oh! I didn’t remember at first, because I was hoping I would see him. I felt a bit disappointed, but I didn’t want to ask Victoria since we ba-rely talked about him. But I expected a message at least. I constantly check my phone as the girls and I were having fun. My phone finally rang out. I quic-kly brou-ght it out, only to see it was Dad calling.
“We nee-d to leave now. Time has gone,” he said. When I checked my phone, it was alre-ady past four in the evening. That now Dad said, it means right now.
“Time to take my leave girls,” I announced.
They screamed, finally realized I was going to leave. “Let’s take selfie,” Victoria said.

“Okay, selfie. Let’s be fast about it.”
We all posed for selfie, and our selfie bec@m£ selfies, as we kept on taking more pictures. After we were done, they hvgged me, k!$$£d my cheeks, and wished me luck.

“I will miss you.”

“Will call you.”

“Take care of yourself okay.”

They all said, as I walked out of the hall. They wanted to esc-rt me, but I told them not to, because I would love to meet up on time with Dad. But as I stepped out, I saw someone I wasn’t expecting to see.

Wait..

Is that not…

“Yomi!” I shouted, as he jogged towards me.

He has grew more taller, more handsome, fresh, and rocking a very bad hair cut. But it so looked good on him. His pinkl-ips looked so fine, and…

Suzy!

Oh my!

What?

It was actually nothing.

He embr@ced me with a big hvg. “Wow! It’s good to see you again Suzy,” he said.
I laughed. “More gooder for me,” I replied and he laughed.

“Wow! I really miss that. She would always say something to make you laugh. That new grammar though.”
I blu-shed a little. “I think that’s good.”

“Very good, S-xy Suzy,” he win-ked.

I laughed. He just called me ‘S-xy’

As in S-xy!

Haha

Suzy keep calm!

I smiled. “Thank you,” I said instead. “You’re looking so fresh too. Which university are you now? And do you hear from-”

✒”Victor.” He finished for me.

I blu-shed. “Yes,” I said.

He reacted somehow, trying to hide something from me. As always, Yomi would smile, and as captivating his smile would always be, I shook the thought away. “Well, Victor is cool, and he s£nt his greetings. Don’t worry about him, he’s fine,” he said.

“Hmm,” I mumbled. “So which school?”

“Babc0ck,” he shrugged his shoulder, like it wasn’t a big deal.

“Wow!”

Money specimen!

This Babc0ckis one of the expensive, if not the most expensive university in Nigeria.

“You’re so lucky dear. Congrats!”

He laughed, and brushed his hair with his hand. “What’s lucky about that. Babc0ckis just as normal as every other university.”
Hmm…
I refused to talk.
“I’m so happy for you though.” We embr@ced each other once again before he left. I took a quic-k glance at Yomi’s direction, as he entered a black car. Beautiful, and without anyone telling me, even if I really do not know much about cars, I knew that car would be very expensive. As I was about to look away, I caught a familiar look inside the car, and the person at the driver side rolled down the glas-s to see something clearly. It was as if someone hit my heart, because it picked up a race. No! This was no car race.

It can’t be!

Victor!

Yes!

It was him.

I stared at the person very well to be very sure, if I wasn’t seeing things because I wasn’t having my glas-ses with me.

Victor Stephens

He was having a black shade on to hide his face, but as I stared, he stared back.
I know my Victor.
I would recognize my Victor any day, any time
He was still staring
Won’t he get down?
Victor ! I wish I could screamed that name out. But we only exchanged looks.
What was wrong?
My Victor was frowning.
He wasn’t smiling
He wasn’t showing his teeth
And just like the very first day I c@m£ into Crown school.
Victor ignored me, and rolled up the glas-s again.
Something hit me right in my heart, and I knew this wasn’t just a feeling.
Something has gone wrong
💊Why was it so painful?

Why do I feel so angry?
Why did it hurt so much?
Tears!
I could feel it.
Almost dropping!
Noooo….
And before I knew it,
It dropped.
Suzy you can’t!
But I just did.

On my sp©t, my phone beeped. I didn’t feel like checking it, because I knew of someone who would never man up to face you. What he should have face me and say, he would put in writing instead. I opened the message.
