♥♥♡♣
On Saturday evening, the hostel was a bit dry because almost every student had gone home. Debbie and Temi had gone home too. I expected Victoria to follow Temi but she insisted on staying back in the hostel. I was bored and tired of being bored. Everyone was having fun while I just sat quietly in my corner. No one to chat with. No one to disturb me. It was ha-rd to mingle with others around since I really don’t talk to them.

“Surprise!”

I knew who that voice belongs to. But I still don’t know how visiting me turned out to be a surprise. I eventually looked back and it turned out to be an unexpected surprise. “what’s all these for?”
She smiled, getting others attention. “You don’t like it?”
I was just staring. What should we do with all that?

Popcorn in a brown paper bag,
A big cake that can’t be finished in a day,
Two bottles of fanta and Coca Cola each,
And One bundle of sweet chocolate.

“Of course, I love it.” I joined her in her craziness.
seriously, that was crazy!

“Who bought you all these?”

“Mom s£nt it. I told her I nee-ded to cheer myself up, and seriously, these are the things Mom thought would cheer me up. You like my surprise?” she win-ked at me.
I couldn’t hide it. I bur-st into laughter. A big surprise indeed!
Who won’t love something like that.

We both di-pped our hands inside the popcorn bag and began to eat. I didn’t waste time taking my fanta. I prefer it more.
“Let’s see who will finish her drink first,” Victoria said. She had no idea whom she was dealing with. Before she could place her mouth on her Coca Cola, I was alre-ady done with my fanta.
“Suzy!” she screamed, and I chuckled loudly.
“What” I went for Coca Cola this time, and we both finished it at the same time. She di-pped her hand to take more popcorn only to realize we’ve finished that too.
“Suzy!” she shouted again.

“Victoria we both di-pped our hands inside this thing.” I laughed seeing the look she gave me. “You know what Victoria, I think some spirits joined us to eat this popcorn.”
We both fell flat on my be-d. “God, Suzy I’m filled up.”

“So what will happen to the cake?”

“Don’t tell me you’re still thinking about the cake?”
I smiled to myself. “I just pity the cake. I don’t want it to waste.”
She just laughed.

“I really miss him Victoria. You know.. I’ve never been bored since I arrived Into Crown school because he was always there to make every moment lively and fun.”

“Hmm..” I turned to see Victoria smiling. “So, did he later confess his feelings?”

I re-moved the band I was having on me, and showed it to her to re-ad. “Hmm,” she laughed a little. “Can’t believe Victor really did this. My brother is really into you. I’m certain this is how he feels about you. But don’t you think it’s time for you to forget about him and move on with your life. Mix with another set of guys so you won’t feel bored. Try and make new friends.”
“Actually Victoria, I feel the same way about him for a very long time. I just couldn’t admit it to anyone. So I had to lie about us being friends.”
Victoria chuckled lightly, and we were both facing each other. “Wow! Can’t believe I’m hearing this from you Suzy.”
I just laughed.
“Guess that was why you couldn’t st©p him from k!ss!ngyou the other day,” she said.
I smiled remembering the k!ss. “Well, that wasn’t the first time he k!$$£d me. Though I never k!$$£d him back.”
Victoria smiled, and win-ked at me. “Guess that was your first time.”
I pinched her nose.
“Ouch!” she laughed. “That’s painful.”
“That’s for being nosy. And to answer your question, that was my first time. But I didn’t k!sshim back.”
She made a face at me. “That’s your second time of saying ‘you didn’t k!sshim back’. I will just drag him back to Nigeria to k!ssyou until you k!sshim back.”

“Victoria plea-se wait,” I quic-kly said. I was confused at what I heard from her. ‘ Drag him back to
Nigeria’. I sat up, and she joined me.

“Suzy, what’s wrong?”
“To be honest, I just heard you said something. Is Victor out of the country?”

Victoria nodded. “wait.. Don’t tell me he hasn’t told you?”
My two eyes has become watery. But I refused to let it fall.
“You’re just telling me.”

“Oh, no!” She closed her eyes feeling bad. “I’m sorry you found out this way.”

I sh0t back my tears and smiled at her. I really don’t want her to feel bad because I really enjoyed her company, and all I wanted was for her to be free with me. “It’s nothing,” I as-sured her. Her phone rang and she excused herself.

There was no reason for me to cry. Victoria was right. He’s gone for good, and he has moved on with his life. Ever since the day he called, he hasn’t called again.

I think it was time to accept that nothing could ever happen between us. Even though we both like each other.
I must find a way to forget about him.

I can

And I will…

âž–âž–âž–âž–âž–âž–âž–âž–âž–âž–âž–âž–âž–âž–âž–âž–
New day. New beginning. New week. I felt so good, and couldn’t wait to start the day. I hung my school bag on my shoulder, and marched forward to the dinning for breakfast. No more ss3 students around. They’ve all gone home, leaving we ss2 and others behind. The ss2 students were alre-ady showing that they are the next s£niors in the school. Here and there, everyone was discussing about the next prefects.
“Could it be her?”

“I’m sure it can’t be her.”

“Remember Mr. Stephen was against Victor being the head boy.”
“But don’t you think she is perfect for that post.”

“I love she. She’s bold, intelligent, and pretty.”

“Yes I really like she.”

That was how each person kept on coding whosoever they think was capable of being the head girl.
She…. She… Was the only thing they all repeated on and on. I entered the dinning, and br@nched to take my breakfast when I heard a familiar voice shouted my name.

“Suzy, your breakfast is here.” It was Debbie who shouted. I turned around to see they’ve all gotten to the dinning before me. I walked to their table. “So quic-k! Today’s breakfast is really different. You guys are here early. In fact, I’ve seen some late comers alre-ady here before me,” I said, drawing my plate of rice with chicken closer to me. “why is everyone so early and eager today?”
“Well,” Temi said, “The new prefects will be chos£n today. Everyone is so eager to see who will be our head girl and head boy.”
“Really,” I chew my rice, stepping it down with water. “Don’t you think the School should have announced that?”
“It’s not new to us,” Temi explained. “We all know that once the ss3 students are gone, the new prefects will be chos£n.”
To be candid, I was anxious about this whole thing. But I just smiled and continue with my food. I took a quic-k glance at Victoria who was busy with her phone. she ba-rely said anything since I sat down. I dropped my spoon, and finished my water.

“I’m done guys. we should leave ”

“Without me?” A familiar voice from no where replied instead. We all looked behind us and saw Kunmi standing with a big smile on her face.

“Kunmi!” We all screamed at the same time, getting others attention. She was just smiling, hvgging us each. “Guess you’ve all missed me,” she tea-sed.
Of course we did miss her.

I called her yesterday since we didn’t see her arrived from home.
“Have no idea you like home too.” Debbie pla-yfully said.
“Like seriously, Kunmi this is not you.” Temi said as if she knew there was something going on. But Kunmi just laughed instead.
I was glad she was doing better.
We all got to our feet and headed straight to school. Before we could reach the main block, we saw some students walking very fast, while some were running towards the hall. Guess to get a space at the front.
“What’s going on?” It was Debbie who voiced out. “The hall shouldn’t be opened alre-ady. The programme starts by ten o’clock, and this is just after eight,” she said confused.
“Victoria you’re still here?” One of the guys pas-sing by asked.
I saw the look Victoria gave him. It was not nice at all.

What a jamb question?

“So,” Temi bluntly replied instead.
“Your mom is around, and I heard she’s in the hall right now.”

“My mom!”

“Mom!”
Seriously, I couldn’t get these two. Who now owns the Mom?
I was sure I wasn’t the only who thought that way, because Kunmi and I both shared a quic-k look, and smiled.
That is love in a family.

They respect one another.

Before we knew it, Victoria and Temi were alre-ady running towards the hall. We ran after them. Lo and behold, the hall was quiet and peaceful. Everyone had alre-ady settled down, while some who were just coming in like us. They quietly made their way in. I saw a tall woman taking her seat which was at the middle of everyone on the high table.
I’ve never seen her before, but I could see the resemblance with Victoria’s look. Victoria might not be that fat, but she looked exactly like her mom facially.
She was putting on a ti-ght go-wn, with turban round her head. She was dark in complexion like both Victor and Victoria. She was having a nice and light make up on, which made her look beautiful. She smiled as each teacher walked in and greeted her.
“Can we have everyone keep quiet plea-se,” Mr Bim, whom Temi told me was their literature teacher said, earning few insult from the students.
Just get on with it fatty..
I really do not know why he was allowed to conduct this..
Just carry your pot belly away from here..
“Silent plea-se,” he said again.

Honestly, I don’t know why a young man like him couldn’t watch his weight. He was too fat at his young age. I bet it, he doesn’t have a girlfriend.
“Suzy are you here?” Kunmi tapped me.
“Yea,” I smiled. Just admiring Mr. fatty. May be I can pity him and become his girlfriend.
I just smiled at the foolish thought, because I would rather remain single. But that doesn’t nean he won’t find someone who will love him. He would surely find his p@rtner.

“We all know why we are here today,” I heard his voice again, getting a very loud ‘Yes’ from the students.

“We are supposed To start this by ten o’clock as planned, but there is an important person here today who has graced us with her pres£nce. Can you put your hands together and celebr@te her as I introduce to you, Our one and only mother. Supporter. Great teacher. A woman with impeccable character. Who loves us. Who loves you..” Mr. Bim went on, with everyone cl@pping.
I was wondering if this man would introduce her or not.

Our mother..

Our this..

Our that…

Is he trying to tell us we don’t know our mother?
“I introduce to you Mrs. Funmi Stephen!” He finally said, and every got up including the teachers as she got up and walked to the middle of the stage.

“Great Students!” She shouted, and all the students screamed,

“Great!”💪

Wow! The turn out was great!💪

The hall was filled, and everyone cheered!💪

“Great Crown students!”💪

“Great!” They all chorused.💪

“God bless you all,” she began. “You can all have your seats. I’m delighted to see everyone doing well. it’s a great plea-sure to be in your midst today. I’m plea-sed to know that you’ve been a good students to your teachers. And I’m so proud of you all ”
The students cheered, as she went on. “We all know why we are here today?”

“Yes ma!” Everyone chorused.

“Yes. Very good,” she smiled. “I’m also here for the same reason. It will be a great plea-sure to meet our next ambas-sadors, who will be repres£nting us. I’ll hand over the Mic to Mr Bims to get this started.” She returned the Mic gratefully and went back to her seat as the whole students, including the principal and the teachers cl@pped their hands.

“Thank you ma,” Mr. Bim bowed.

“I’ll call on Mr. ra-phael to continue,” he said, and everyone was excited, including me.
My favourite among all.

“A round applause for our Great woman plea-se.” Mr. ra-phael always know the right word.
Not our mother..
“This is the day,” he sighed. “Hmm,” I can see some people eager to know who the Head girl and head boy of this great school will be.” He said throu-gh the mic. “Same here. We are both anxious together.”
“I have the first thirty names here with me. I can’t see the head girl here.. what’s going on?” He said, teasing the students as everyone laughed.

“Nooooo…..” They all screamed.

“It’s okay everyone. I will start with the social prefects. Can I have Temilola Bashua and James Okoye on the stage plea-se!”
Temi jumped up with excitement, as we congratulated her, and hvgged her.

“Temilola we are waiting for you plea-se,” Mr. ra-phael said, and we quic-kly re-leased her to leave.
He kept on calling other names, and we all cheered, congratulating them, until Debbie and I were left alone.
“Now the real deal. Crown students are you re-ady?” Mr ra-phael shouted throu-gh the mic to make everyone more eager than before.
“Okay.” He held the small paper up. “This little paper will tell us who our head boy and head girl would be. hmm. let’s have a look.”

“I will call on the two as-sistants before we move on to the headboy and head girl. Kindly put your hands together as I welcome the as-sistant head boy on the stage. The only one we call Sammy boy, Samuel Gold!”
The girls shouted, and screamed at the t©p of their voices. The truth was, who doesn’t know Sammy boy. Handsome but proud. Rude, with a nonchalant attitude. He always hit on girls, but never has he pas-sed his boundary reaching me.
“And welcome on stage our beautiful Chimaka Uzo! She is declared as the as-sistant head girl.” Mr ra-phael announced.
I really don’t know much about the girl, because she ba-rely moves around. The last time I saw her was at the libr@ry re-ading.

“Now,” Mr ra-phael’s voice changed that everyone knew something was about to happen.

“Now,” he repeated. “Let the students here in the hall today rise on their feet as we announce the names of the two, and most luckiest students who have caught the eyes of the teachers. Is it their performance, how intelligent they are, bold and responsible, beautiful, handsome, gentle…” Everyone was cl@pping as Mr ra-phael went on with his compliments.
Who could it be?
Everyone was looking around, and I was not left behind too.

✔”Great Students of Crown school, welcome on stage the girl who had for once been on this stage with me and…”
Everyone screamed out a name I still couldn’t believe.

✒”Suzy!”

✒”Yes, it’s Suzy!”

I was dumbfounded. I wanted to scream. I wanted to just hvg someone. Was still thinking of that when I felt someone hvgged me. It was Debbie.

Oh my!

My Dad would be the most happiest man on earth.

I felt like crying

Do I really deserve this?

But at the same time, I wanted him to repeat the name because it would be so painful if he later realized he made a mistake.
“Can we have both the head girl and head boy join us on the stage. Suzy James and Gabriel Whyte.”

That boy

Is the most gentle person I’ve ever known.

Brilliant!

He can solve anything in mathematics and physics.
I never knew we were both in the same clas-s until last term.
Always going alone
Always on his own

I’m proud of him. He truly deserves it.

As I walked up to the stage. Something c@m£ into my mind.

✔Yeyyy!!!

✔The birthday p@rty!

✔Holiday in lagos.

✔This was the perfect license.

✔Dad would never say no to this.

I bec@m£ the head girl. I was excited. But Dad would be more excited. Mom would spoil me with all her savings. And it would definitely be a ‘ YES’ to spend my holidays in lagos.
Mrs. Stephen herself gave everyone the badge that belongs to him or her. Getting to me, I smiled at her, and she returned it.
✔✔✔✔
“Congratulations Suzy,” She shook hands with me. She gave me my badge and shook hands with me again. She must have seen the band I had on, because,

✒’Victor loves Suzy’ was boldly written on it. The band does not indicate which of the Victor we have in Crown School, but I was sure she knew more than I could ever imagine. She didn’t make it obvious, but only to Congratulate me again.

“Congratulations to you once again! And I would love to have a word with you before I leave,” she said.

There was nothing to be scared of. She probably wants to Congratulate me better.
