The next morning it was my mom that woke me up, i heard her ma-king funny sounds and when I went out to see what she’s doing, i ended up smiling shaking my head.
“Mom what are you doing? I asked and she quic-kly hid the tooth brush at her back when she saw me. I slowly carried the tooth paste to see she has squee-zed out everything in it and I heaved,
“Where’s your water now you’re done brushing? I asked and she pointed inside.
I went in and opened a sachet for her,
“When next you want to brush, hold your water and thanks for finishing the tooth paste, I said giving her the water and she smiled and continued with what she was doing.
I didn’t know how to tell her I’ll be going out because I nee-d to, and again I was scared she may be too worried or run outside again when I don’t return in time.
She pointed the tooth brush at me and I took it from her,
“I didn’t teach you one thing, you must rinse your tooth brush like this after brushing, I said rinsing it for her to see and she nodded.
“And mom I’ll be going out today, I said and she looked at me sad then shook her head saying things.
“Mom I have to go to the market nau, and yes I have to get tooth paste since you’ve finished this one, I said and she folded her arms with a frown and i laughed tou-ching her.
“Let’s go in first and discuss about breakfast, I said holding her in……….
I was able to convince her and left the house, I went home straight but saw my step mom friend at home.
“What are you doing here? She asked when i entered.
“When will i come to your father house to ask what you’re doing there? Can’t you stay in your house? I asked back and she smiled.
“You should be visiting them in the hospital and not here, she said.
“You should be in the hospital also not here, aren’t you her friend? I asked back.
“Of course I was with her but she s£nt me here for something, she replied.
“Oh I forgot you’re her big maid. Your mates are alre-ady married but here you are going errands for your madam, I said and her countenance changed.
“Purity! She shouted on me.
“I said what I said, what? I replied.
“Purity don’t you ever insult me else I’ll break your mouth for you! She shouted and I smiled.
“In my fathers house? You dare not try it miss and plea-se get out of my house and go find yours. Who knows what you’ve stolen here in the name of errands, You should be in your house! I shouted back and left for my room and st©pped at the corridor to peep at her.
She was so angry as she paced around for a while,
“No I won’t take this anymore! She shouted taking her bag and left which was exactly what I wanted that was why I said all that to her so she can go.
I quic-kly locked the door behind as it was only me at home now to carry out my secret investigation.
I left to my step mom room, she had her own personal room filled with her personal stuff but i was surprised the door was open which is not always so.
I opened her cu-pboards but saw nothing different, then I saw a carton and drew it out bringing what was inside and saw an old ph0to albu-m.
I opened it checking it one after another and was so surprised to see her with my mom.
“So its true? I said and took one of the pictures into my bag and searched more for something that will lead me to my mom case but I heard a car horn.
“Dad! I shouted and quic-kly pushed everything back as it was and rushed out when my dad has alre-ady drove in and parked his car.
I closed the door behind me after ma-king sure my step mom won’t notice anything and I c@m£ out to the sitting room, and immediately my dad entered.
“Purity, you c@m£? He asked when he saw me.
“I just c@m£ in, welcome dad, i said giving him a hvg.
“You should have called me to pick you up, he said.
“Sorry I had low battery, $h!t i was to charge my phone, i said and quic-kly brou-ght out my charger.
“So how is the Baby? I asked.
‘Come see for yourself, he said.
“Hummm I don’t think that’s a good idea, you know your wife right? I asked praying he shouldn’t insist i should follow him.
“Purity st©p it, come let’s go, he said taking my hand.
“But What about my phone? I asked.
“You’ll charge it in my car, he replied and i rolled my eyes knowing i can’t escape this.
“Okay I’ll join you outside, I said and he took a plastic water from the freezer and left while I sat down for a while with a frown before I took my phone and joined him in the car after he gave me a warning horn.
We got to her room and immediately she saw me, she sat up with a face not friendly at all,
“What is your problem Purity? She asked and I sighed and weighed on the wall looking at her.
“I told you didn’t i? This is not a good idea, i said to my dad.
“Anything about you can never be a good idea, besides what is she doing here? She asked.
“Honey st©p, can’t she visit you? My dad asked and she looked at him.
“Visit me after insulting my friend? She asked and my dad looked at me.
“You did that? He asked.
“How did i insult her? Why will she ask me what I’m doing in my father house? i simply told her to go get married if she is that jobless, I replied him.
“you see there? She insulted my friend! She shouted and i sm-irked while my dad quic-kly held her.
“I’m sorry about that okay, i actually asked her to come hoping you two can patch things up, my dad said.
“With who? Why do you derive plea-sure in getting me angry? I was so happy until she c@m£ and spoilt my day and What makes you think this girl will ever like me? She asked my dad.
“Who will even want to? Like I care,husband snatcher! I dropped.
“What! They both shouter and i left the room immediately.
“Purity wait there! My dad shouted at me when i was about leaving the hospital and i st©pped.
“What did you just called my wife inside? He asked.
“Husband snatcher, simple, i replied and he sl@pped me but I laughed instead.
“Is that all you can do? You dumped my mom and took her friend instead over her, you’re not different from her dad. Even if my mom wanted to heal, you broke her the more, You both are shamelessly cheap! I shouted and ran out.
I got home and met my mom asleep outside with her head weighing on the wall, that was when i felt the effect of my dad sl@pping me as i looked at her saying nothing but she woke up.
I quic-kly cleaned my tears but she saw my red chin and t©uçhed it,
“Mommy its okay are you hungry? I asked st©pping her from talking but she even got more angry.
I was so surprised and wondered how she knew someone hit her daughter and I sniffed and brou-ght out the picture i carried showing it to her,
“Is this the Eunice? I asked and she gr@bb£d the picture with so much anger talking to it and i nodded.
“Its okay mom, I wish you can tell me exactly what she did or even write it down so i can know the next action to take. Right Now i am so confused and i don’t know where to start, I really want to see you heal mom, I said and she sadly sat down.
I sniffed and cleaned my face and i then remembered I left my phone in my dad car.
I just went in and la-id down to rest but I heard a car drove in. I got up and saw it was my dad but i didn’t bother to go out.
I heard my mom talking, and with the tone of her voice she was angry and i just peeped to see what is going to happen,
“Hi Hilda, your daughter forgot her phone in the car, my dad said and my mom snatched it from him and he heaved.
“Can I talk to her? He asked and my mom shook her head and he slowly sat down.
“I don’t know how you are able to communicate with your daughter, i wish you could do same to me because i want to know what’s going on with you. You’re ma-king my daughter hate me which is so wrong, you know very well i didn’t dumped you and took another woman, he said and my mom angrily looked at him, got up and began to push him to go but he held her.
“Hilda st©p this! I fought to have you back, i waited but you never c@m£ Around. What do you want me to do? Was I to wait for 17 good years when there is still no sign of recovery, he said and i c@m£ out hearing that.
“There are signs of recovery, can’t you see the difference? She takes up a tooth brush and knows when to brush, she knows the value of cleanliness and Is always indoors. I am asking for 1 more chance dad for my mom, take her to a different hospital and i as-sure you my mom will be better with me on her side, i said but my mom went inside leaving us outside.
My dad covered his face saying nothing while i prayed he should agree to this,
“Purity just st©p. I have wasted enough and i have better things to use my money for, get over this and accept for your mom for who she is. Even if there is a chance for her to come around, nothing will ever change between us if that’s what you’re thinking. I wont repeat myself again Purity, have respect for my wife for she has done a lot for you when your mom was not there. If you continue in this then I’m afraid, you will never see my face here again and i mean it, my dad said and i smiled shaking my head.
“I was talking about my mom here and not a friend betrayer, i said and my dad nodded.
“That’s it Purity I’m done here, and until you apologize to my wife, don’t call me nor see my face, my dad said getting up and i nodded.
“Sorry to disappoint you dad, i will never do that. And if you will never see my face after this day, then so be it, i said and he looked at me for a while, got into his car and drove off without leaving a note behind…….
