A shattering sound in the house made me cleaned my tears and raised my head from my fathers arms where I was crying,
“What’s your decision now you know? My dad asked and I sniffed.
“I want to know my mother, no matter what has happened she nee-ds me and I have to be here for her, I replied and he heaved.
“I hope it won’t hurt you in the long run because I felt so bad when my hopes on your mom were crashed, he said and i closed my eyes.
“I can’t help it dad, i just have to believe, i replied.
“This is going to be stressful I hope you know that? He asked and I nodded.
“I’ll manage and I’ll be fine i promise, I replied and he nodded also.
“I’ll go get the kitchen things you nee-d and I’ll be visiting from time to time to make sure you’re okay, he said and I smiled.
“Thank you, and I hope dad you un-derstand I didn’t abandoned you nor chose my mother over you, I just want her to feel her daughter company, something she was denied of for years, I said.
“Sure and that’s so thoughtful of you and ermmmm I’m happy you accepted her in this condition, you know that was my fear and I’m sorry, he said tou-ching me and I gave a weak smile.
“I un-derstand, you were trying to protect me i know, i said he smiled.
“Okay I’ll excuse you so you can go get the stuff, i said.
“Oh yea that’s right, he said and i opened up and stepped down while he called one of the guys working telling him he will back soon, and he drove off.
I made sure I dried my face before going in to see what my mom is doing, but I met her sitting on the ground arranging pieces of paper.
“Uhmmm you didn’t tell me you can re-ad, I said and squ-atted beside her but she didn’t look at me.
I knew she is still upset my dad is around, and I was sad myself hearing what he just told me and didn’t have that strength to lighten her up.
I stood up and began taking things outside to clear the house, I choked up with the dust that hit me ha-rd and coughed real bad that I began crying in the process.
I ran in taking a sachet water to drink and washed my face, and my mom was just looking at me saying nothing.
I went in and took everything in the 2 rooms outside parking them at a corner and began sweeping the dirt out.
In the process my dad drove in and I c@m£ out to greet him,
“What are you doing? Have you taken your rest? He asked tou-ching my forehead but I gave a weak smile.
“I’m fine, I said and looked at my mom who practically ignored us and sat with a frowning face.
“Come see what I got, if there’s anything lacking I can give you the money to get it because I have to go now, he said and he opened the boot of his car bringing it out.
“Its good dad, I Can get the rest anytime, thank you, I said.
“You’re welcome and plea-se take things easy and be careful over here. I see the place is becoming safe now, he said looking around.
“Yes and its a relief, tomorrow i Can set it on fire together with the things that are not useful, I said pointing at the stuffs i brou-ght out and he nodded.
“Okay just call me if you nee-d anything okay, he said putting notes in my palm.
“Thank you dad, i said and he smiled and called one of the guys and paid him off, I gave him a hvg before he got in and drove off.
I shifted the things he got in a safe place and quietly sat beside my mom looking at her,
“Hungry? I asked her and she looked at me.
“Can I get you bre-ad? There is still mayonnaise, I said again and she folded her arms with a long face.
“Hmm someone is very angry, so what do you want me to do? Why are you angry? Is it because of him? Don’t worry he has gone okay, I said and she threw her face the other way.
“Okay can you plea-se help me out, plea-se! I said dragging her up and she began to laugh and pointed at the bre-ad nylon..
“I know that, but let’s finish this first so we will go get bre-ad, I said holding her inside.
Together we pushed out the debris in large quantities outside and even killed a snakelet….. She did that herself because I screamed and found myself outside with that shock.
The house was so free and I could feel ventilation going in,
“I wish there is water, I nee-d to wash the place, I said to her after throwing the debris into the bush.
There was a old ru-bber I saw and without being told, she went to it pouring out whatever was inside and said things I couldn’t hear.
“Where are you taking the ru-bber to? I asked but she kept it on her head and began leaving the compound.
“Who says she is mad? No I believe she will come to her s-en-ses soon enough, I said and began looking throu-gh the stuffs outside.
The old cu-pboard i saw was filled with papers and pictures.
Most of the papers were torn and the pictures of course were bad which I kept it aside to be burned the next day.
I went throu-gh the pieces of papers to see it was letters and I smiled and thought it will be interesting to look throu-gh them when I’m relaxed.
I carefully picked them up and kept it on my bag inside, dust the cu-pboard and saw it can still be managed.
The guys approached me that they were done, and that was when i checked the time to see it was past 6pm alre-ady.
“Oh thank you, I hope my dad paid up? I asked.
“Yes, they replied and i thanked them again happy with their good work, while they left with their cutlas-ses leaving the place of course for me to sweep and burn them.
Seeing the time made me hungry and I saw no reason to keep any stuff there because it was all old.
I just hissed and began taking the things my dad bought inside and my mom returned moving left and right with water on her head.
I went to her to help keep the water down but bur-st out laughing when she practically poured all the water on her head while dancing and c@m£ back with just little.
She joined me in laughing like she just did a very good thing,
“Uhmmm mommy you can fetch water o, thank you you’re so sweet, I said keeping the water aside and she wanted to take the things I wanted throwing inside.
“Ah ah mommy don’t start o, its old and I want to throw it away, I said st©pping her but she picked up one dirty thing saying things to me and i shook my head.
“You won’t take it inside iyeh, in fact come let’s use this water to wash our face so we can go buy our bre-ad, I said and she quic-kly left the place and I nodded knowing i can get her by just using bre-ad.
While going on the road I told her we will be going to the stream after eating, and she jumped up saying something and that was when I heard something out of what she was saying.
“Did you just said you will beat me in swimming? I asked and she shouted nodding her head and i bec@m£ so interested to know what she always say to me.
But when i wanted saying something to see if i can get another thing from her numerous talks, the guy who approached me yesterday just stood in front of me and i st©pped,
“Are you kidding me? You’re so happy walking with her? He asked and i rolled my eyes.
“Who do you think you are to detect who I should talk or walk with? I asked him and he smiled.
‘You’re too beautiful for this you know, he said.
“Avoid me, I’m not that friendly so be warned, I said and held my mother hand and walked away from him.
We got our bre-ad and sachets of beverages and walked home again talking, but sadly i couldn’t get anything from her words and i was so pained.
After eating i wrote down few things i nee-ded to buy tomorrow and getting ru-bbers was included.
Writing that was so difficult because i had to struggle with the biro from my mom countless times,
“Its time to bath, I’m so tired, I said to her but saw she took my phone behind me and was pressing only God knows.
“Oh Christ! mommy no nau, i said getting it from her.
“Let’s go mommy we nee-d to bath so i can beat you in swimming today, i said and she shined her teeth to follow me……..
We c@m£ back feeling so refreshed and happy, and I shook off the old clothes i spre-ad outside and got prepared to sleep because i was so tired.
As i was about to lie down my mom tapped me showing the tooth brush and i rolled my eyes,
“Thanks mom,you’re good in remembering things, i said and she smiled.
“Okays let’s go brush but don’t forget to follow me okay, i said and she showed me the b©dy cream and i laughed.
“Okay let’s brush first okay then I’ll apply you the cream before we sleep, I said laughing and we went outside to brush.
We c@m£ back and we applied our b©dy cream, changed up and got re-ady to sleep.
I just la-id beside my mom remembering all my dad said and i sat up determined to talk to her, my mom seeing my face sat up also looking at me and i didn’t know where to start.
“Mom i talked with dad today and he told me a lot of things, I want to know, why did you run from the hospital? I asked and her countenance changed.
“Mom can you plea-se talk to me? I’m here to help you because i believe you can heal, i said holding her hands when she said nothing and she began to talk which I listened carefully to get points from her but i heard Eunice among her talks and i st©pper her,
“Wait i heard something, Who is Eunice? I asked her and she breathed in and wanted going out but i st©pped her.
“Where are you going to its late alre-ady, i said and she kept talking and i heard something like “she is my friend and its in the picture”.
“Your friend? I asked looking at her carefully and she nodded.
“I see,don’t worry mom we will look into this tomorrow because i cant really un-derstand what Eunice did and why you really want me to see her picture. But i promise you, I’ll do everything to get you back to yourself, I said and she slowly t©uçhed my hair with a sad face and i made her to lie down.
Despite i was tired a lot of thoughts ran throu-gh my head as i began to fix all what my mom was trying to tell me.
“Who is Eunice? I asked myself as the Name kept ringing in my ears and with my mom behavior, she knows Eunice must be a known person i can recognize, but then I remembered my dad wife name is Eunice.
I sat up immediately knowing my step mom always br@g she rescued me from my mom, and i can Also remember when i fought with her daughter she said i want to kill her daughter same was my mom wanted killing her.
I quic-kly looked at my mom who was slee-ping peacefully and wish i can just open her vocals to talk correctly, and i saw the letters I kept on my bag.
I got up and switched on my phone torch but saw my battery percentage is low.
“$h!t! I nee-d to get a lamp tomorrow, i said and included a lamp among the things i was to get and decided to rest for the night and dig into the matter the next morning…………
