I got so pressed with work forgetting about the one coming to pick the l@pt©p even when it was not with me.
I honestly didn’t know someone will get it that urgently and I wasn’t too sure he will be coming the same day to pick it up.
I heard my phone ringing and took it up and recognize the number calling back, it was noon alre-ady and I was surprised how the time went so fast.
“Hello good afternoon, I picked up.
“Afternoon, I’m almost at the address you gave to me, I hope I’m not too late? He asked.
“You’re almost there? I asked.
“Yea will be there 5 or 10 minutes from now, is there a problem? He asked back.
“Oh no I’ll be waiting then, my shop is just by the junction, the tailoring shop, I said.
“Alright, see you then, he said and dropped the call and I was a little bit worried the l@pt©p was not with me.
“Will he have the patience to wait for me while I go home to bring it? I asked myself and decided to be calm to see him first.
It wasn’t long a young handsome guy approached my shop and gave a knock on the door,
“plea-se come in, I said to him.
“Sorry I’m looking for a girl by name Purity, but her number is switched off, he said and I took my phone.
“My number? I asked and saw truly it was switched off.
“I’m sorry for that, I didn’t know my battery was low, I said to him and gave him a chair to sit down.
“You’re welcome and sorry for the stress, I said to him.
“Its alright, so where is the l@pt©p I c@m£ for? He asked and I began to scratch my head.
“To be sincere the l@pt©p is at home, you called when I was alre-ady in the shop and I was too busy to run home to bring it. But if you don’t mind I can go home now to bring it for you, I replied.
“Its okay I can drive you down there if you want, I don’t mind, he said.
“Okay, but are you okay with the price? I asked him.
“To me the price isn’t the problem as long as the product worth it. I nee-d it urgently that’s why I’m taking the pains to have it, I have to see it first and a transfer will be done immediately if I’m contend with it, he replied and I nodded.
“No problem, plea-se a Minute let me tidy this up, I said referring to the material in the machine alre-ady.
“Beautiful work you have here, he said looking around.
“Thank you, I said and closed the window while he walked out and I took my phone and locked the door behind.
We walked to a red Camry parked and he opened up for me,
“Thank you, I said when I got in and he drove off.
“So I’m just curious if you don’t mind, why do you want to sell the l@pt©p? It looks new to me or maybe its the c@m£ra of your phone deceiving me, he said as he drove and I smiled.
“Its new and really a good product I got from the states, I replied.
“If so why are you giving it out for such an amount? Though I saw the comments asking for a lower price, why do you want to do that? He asked.
“I nee-d the money for my fees, I nee-d to start school soon and the money will be so helpful for me, I replied.
“Sorry to ask, where are your parents? He asked.
“Alive, both are alive but they are separated. My mom is sick and I stay with her, but my dad is doing really good with his new family, I hope you un-derstand? I asked and he nodded.
“More than anyone will do, I’m sorry for that, he replied.
“Its nothing, that path plea-se, I said pointing at a road he is to enter and got a little bit nervous he is following me home, I suddenly had this feeling of shame he will get to know I’m a daughter to a mad woman………….
We arrived home and I quic-kly told him to wait while I’ll rush in to bring it out,
“No problem, he accepted and I took off the seatbelt and got into the compound.
My mom wasn’t sitting outside and when I got in she wasn’t there also.
I went out and checked the backyard but she wasn’t there too.
My heart began to beat fast and I totally forgot about what I c@m£ for as I ran in to check the inner room and c@m£ out troubled when I couldn’t find her.
He noticed my countenance and c@m£ out meeting me,
“Is everything okay? He asked.
“No, I can’t find my mom, I replied.
“Okay, I’m sure she went to the market or visited her friends, why are you worrying? He asked.
“No you don’t un-derstand, my mom is sick, I replied.
“Okay she must have felt bored and decided……. “She is not to go out because she is sick don’t you un-derstand! I shouted cutting him short and he looked surprised while i t©uçhed my forehead.
“I’m sorry I shouted on you but my mom is insane, she can’t just leave the house like that, I’m so worried right now, I calmly said and he nodded.
“Insane? Are you serious? He asked and I sadly nodded with my eyes filled with tears.
“If that is so we nee-d to find her, he said holding my hand to take me to the car.
“Wait I haven’t carried the l@pt©p we c@m£ for, I said st©pping him.
“We can come back later for that, he said and I locked the door properly and followed him to look for my mom.
We asked anyone we met on the road and they told us different locations my mom was last seen.
Before I could see my mom I was crying uncontrollably thinking my mom has finally lost it and its over for her, i thought of so many things that made me shaking.
I began to blame myself for always leaving her at home when I suppose to be with her,
“Can you st©p blaming yourself Purity? This isn’t your fault and don’t worry we are going to find her, he said to me.
“But where? My mom is clearly out of the village, where did she go to? I asked and he st©pped and asked someone about my mom.
We got to know my mom was found in a market place and we quic-kly ran down there.
I was so surprised to see my mom with an empty powered peak milk container that was at home, she was begging and putting the money into the container.
I ran to her and held her and she happily showed me the container talking, and I got to know she was trying to get money to give me a birthday p@rty.
“Mom did I ask for this? Common let’s go, I said dragging her away from where she was to the entrance of the market.
My face was so red and I didn’t know what to feel anymore as I stood watching her as she st©pped us, sat on the ground and began arranging the money that was all in the smallest denomination.
When she was done she stood up and gave me the money and I was just shedding tears and the guy t©uçhed me.
“Thanks can we go home now? I asked and she nodded and I turned to the guy.
“Thank you so much, I know this is so embarras-sing you don’t have to see this, I said to him.
“No its fine, and I’m happy your mother is safe. I’ll drive you home, plea-se come in, he said opening the door for us and i slowly walked in dragging my mom in who didn’t want to enter.
She made so much noise in the car as she was not comfortable but I didn’t say anything to her.
I was so t©uçhed she went out to do such a thing for me, and I felt so bad.
We got home and she c@m£ out first and ran inside and I c@m£ out looking at the guy.
“thank you so much, you just c@m£ at the right time to help me out because honestly I don’t know what i would have done if it was just me, I said to him.
“Its alright, but if I may ask, why did your mom do that? Or has she been doing it before?He asked and i shook my head.
“She has never done this, but tomorrow is my birthday and she did this to give me a cake at least, I replied and sniffed and he cleaned my tears.
“Its alright, just take Care of her okay and happy birthday in advance, he said and I gave a weak smile.
‘Thank you, and plea-se let me go bring the l@pt©p, I said.
“Don’t worry tomorrow I’ll be here to properly check it, I don’t have the time to do that now and I nee-d to attend to something, he said.
“Oh I’m so sorry about that, tomorrow I’ll take it with me to the shop, I said.
“No problem and take care, he said.
“Bye and thank you so much, I said waving at him and watched him drove off.
“Oh I didn’t even ask of his name, I said to myself when he was gone alre-ady, and I shook my head to meet my mom at home.
“Mom why did you do that? Is not a must I should have a birthday cake or hold a p@rty right? I know you heard the call I had this morning but you shouldn’t have done that, you made me scared looking for you just to find out you’re begging. Mom why? I asked but she held my hand and began to dance like what I said didn’t worry her at all.
I just sat down looking at her and took the money she gave me and counted it. It was just 300niara only which is nothing, but she is busy dancing thinking she has really made enough money for me.
With the stress she put me throu-gh it was not possible for me to return to the shop, I simply stood up to get something to eat leaving her to continue with her celebr@tion.
I had to go to be-d early, but a lot of things ran throu-gh my head as I l@ydown looking at my mom who was not re-ady to sleep. I saw her very excited and I felt bad I didn’t sacrifice the money I had to buy a cake and make her happy on my birthday, and because of what she has done I was determined to come back with a cake just to make her more excited and give her the opportunity to cut the very first cake with me.
The next day I woke up and stretched myself on the be-d with the lights that trooped into the room, and my mom ran in singing what i don’t know and was cl@pping for me.
I just bur-st out laughing when I knew its a birthday song she is singing for me,
“Awwwnn so sweet money, thank you, I said giving her a pe-ck and she was just dragging me to get up.
“Oh mommy I hope its not for dance o? Don’t worry when I’m coming back from the shop, you see the money you gave to me yesterday, I’ll use it to buy a biggggg cake and drink for us and I’ll charge my phone so we can use it to pl@ymusic, I said and she jumped up dancing on her own while I sat smiling at her.
“Thank you mommy, I know you would have done so much for me if you have the chance, but I won’t st©p believing that someday you will be able to do all that you have in heart for me, I said quietly in my heart…………..
