Love and justice Episode 6 & 7

“There is no peace for those that live un-der constant fights either for love or justice, you [email protected] your head and all you see are the people you have killed, others guilty of their crimes and others so innocent they die because they got in your way of getting your justice or whatever it is you want to get or achieve.
The way of soldier in war is not an easy one, when all the action is going on, it’s about survival, you don’t mind who you kill or hurt so long you stay alive. That’s what we are taught in training, to fight to survive, otherwise what will be war if people fought to die.” I sighed looking at the man before me, his face was torn [email protected] from the beating so that I could get the truth from him.
He looked at me and instead of spitting in my face he looked down blood drooling out of his mouth I held my face and sighed de-eply.
“Look, my trying to use to get you out of this misery. This is war man, the kind that we have to fight in order to win, now I am offering you the chance to survive, so am gonna ask you once more, where is she? How did you find me?” I questioned the 10th time.
“I know nothing man, I told you alre-ady, am just a soldier working for his country. I follow orders and that’s it” he looked at me honesty in his eyes.
I was about to leave his side when a thought cli-cked my mind.
“Look I know you are innocent, you are just following orders and since I have been where you are, I will let you go” I smiled and he sharply looked at me like I was teasing him.
“Hey, untie him. Let the soldier go “I gave an order to the guy standing outside.
“Are you sure about this man?” Chama asked me shaking his head, he obviously was thinking I lost my grip and could not get anything from the guy but I let him have his opinion as I had a well outlined plan that minute.
I watched the guy stagger as he walked away keeping looking back as though he was not believing his lucky.
“What now?” Jim who was standing next to me asked.
“Now he leads us to the people who will give us answers” I grinned at him patting his shoulder.
“Oh great, didn’t see that coming” he nodded smiling.
We followed the guy at a distance, he moved in circles I knew he was trying to check if he was being followed but we made sure he didn’t get a glimpse of our pres£nce behind him.
We followed him as he walked past the busy areas and entered a shop for clothes and later on a chemist. A few minutes later he walked out all cleaned out.
“Hm clever boy keep on” I whispered as we watched him.
Later on as predicted he went to a cellphone booth and made a call. He looked around and st©pped a cab driving out of town.
“Now we need to someone to sacrifice himself for some time” I informed the guys who all looked at me in wonder.
“Yeah, we need to get inside and the only way is one of us to be captured” I told them. Before they could answer my phone rung and I looked at the caller ID, I so much wanted to ignore it but a call from Ackim could bear some important news.
“Keep following him” I instructed Jim who was driving before picking the call.
“What is going on? Any leads?’ he asked the moment I pressed the answer bu-tton.
“We trying to follow that guy I got from the chase, he has nothing so it seems”
“Or he is good at hiding” Ackim added with a sigh
“Yeah, that’s why we on his tail right now and can you believe the idiot is leading us to house” I scoffed as I watched the guy we were following going into a yard.
“Dammit!” I added forgetting I was still on the call.
“Take it down man, I got something for you here. I could have come over but my family is back man and it’s [email protected] to leave. Am trying to get something from my father in law but he seems sli-ppery. One thing though” he paused.
“Okey” I sat up hoping to hear some better news.
“I know where he might be, he wouldn’t tell his daughter as she is not yet aware of what he has done, he just gave me a call that I should not dare to tell my wife if I want your woman Queen to be given back to you. But, I still got a guy who told me his where about. Am texting you the address right now maybe you can check it out” he explained
“He is here?” I asked
“Yeah, he flee into the city a couple of days ago.” Ackim responded.
“Well, that idiot has it coming” I sighed
After waiting to see if our guy would come out and leave his house, I realized he was taking much of my time. So I decided to leave one of the four guys that where with me to keep watch as we left to check out the area Mr. Benson was at.
The place looked silent as we drove to the some kind of farm house. We were three, Chama and Jim with me so we decided to split so we could check out the area.
The sun was almost going down and I looked at my watch which showed 1o minutes past 6 o’clock. With patience I moved about to see any signs of movement but nothing.
“oh man, this is getting so boring” I whispered to myself leaning on the small tree behind the house and removing the white staff from my pockets taking an inch and pu-lling it right throu-gh my nose its effects ma-king me j£rk a little bit. I sniffed the remaining contents from my palm and looked up the sky letting it go into my system my eyes closed.
“This place looks abandoned man, there are no cars, no movements. It looks like an empty house” [email protected]£ Chama`s voice as he matched to where I was ma-king me look down at him.
“Yeah, am beginning to get bored and I don’t like this feeling. Why would a guy point at this place?’” I wondered loudly holding my [email protected]!st and stepping forward away from the tree.
“Maybe there is more to it than we can see from out here?” he responded.
“Should we go in?” he asked after some few seconds of silence.
“Yeah, am sick of waiting for nothing man” I looked at him.
“Tell Jim we got to move, any news from our guy on the lookout?” I asked him and he shook his head,
“Nothing yet”
We matched inside our guns re-ad as the dark covered the clouds. It was now so silent and the insects around the bushy areas on the other side of the farm where squeaking some noise. Together we went to the front door, made of expensive wood. A door knob with a shape of a lion.
I gave an indication for the guys to cover me as I went inside after shooting the door knob and opening the door slowly. There before me was a wi-de empty room.
“What?” Jim found his voice first.
“I looked around and before I could realise what was going on, the entire place was covered in tear [email protected], and we chocked trying to gain our sight and moved about trying to find each other in the middle of the smoke coughing.
“It’s a tra-p!” I yelled running back to the door, but the shooting started ma-king me draw back a little bit my shi-t held up to my nose trying to resist the chocking but it seemed there was more to the smoke as I stared feeling weak and dizzy. The bullets were coming throu-gh the walls and I [email protected] to avoid being in the direct sh0ts.
I shouted for Jim and Chama but there was nothing. I run back to the door dodging the sounds of the shooting. My eyes where so heavy as I got to the cleared air and tried to see who was shooting, then I saw him, he was in the tree t©p with a long sniper gun.
“Son of a b….” I cursed crawling down as he kept shooting at me.
With the little strength left in me I fired a sh0t at him and saw him fall down from the tree. A few seconds later I blacked out and woke up hours later with the cold tearing on my skin. I looked around wimping as I tried to move about, my head felt like someone was drumming inside me. I held myself up and realized I was still at the house laying in the dirty my clothes so messed up.
“The boys!” I stood up and ran back inside but it was empty, there was no sign of blood so I had hope they were still alive. I wondered why I was spared though, it was like someone was trying to get me crazy but kidnapping those around me. Now I felt so much alone. My right hand men where gone with me having no clue where they had been taken or if they were killed,
tou-ching my back pocket I was glad my phone was still there. I pressed the redial bu-tton and waited as the phone rung on the other end.
“Who they hell gave you that Infor? We were led into an ambush and I don’t know where the buys are” I snapped at Ackim before he could say a thing.
The laughter in the speaker made me re-move the phone from my ears and look at the screen to make sure I dialed the right number.
“You will give us the other copies of the recordings or you can forget about your friends” the voice de-ep and firm spoke.
“Who they hell are you?” I asked pissed they got to Ackim too.
“Am your worst night mare Steve, am the man behind it all and am no one you would want to [email protected] I know your every moves and I will take you and your friends down if I don’t get the recordings in 24 hours” he warned and his accent told me he was not Zambian.
“Well, listen to me you fool, this is my country and am not going to allow anyone to mess it up!” I screamed angrily in the mouth piece but he laughed the more.
“Get the recordings soldier. Time is ticking, call me when you have them and I will give you more Infor on how to hand them all. I mean all of them” he cut the line.
I held my head kicking the small stones in anger. Now that even Chama the man with ways of tracking our way in was taken I felt stuck.
“yeah, it’s time I engaged the mafia and his crew” I spoke to myself walking down the path to where we had left our truck and was relieved to find it intact.
“Come to Lusaka as discussed” I made a quic-k call and started the ignition.
Hearing the news of Steve`s woman being taken left me thinking about my own wife and kids, Paula and the kids were still out of the country and she was beginning to pressure me to either go and join her or them coming back.
“My love, the kids are going to school, we cannot keep them here any longer” she would say.
“I know love, I will come pick you up soon enough, and the kids can have home learning for a few more weeks. I just want the whole thing to clear out completely before I can come to get you” I tried to calm her but she was evidently not buying it any more especially that I had not told her what was really going on. The last thing I needed was telling her, her father was involved too.
“Ackim, if you don’t tell me what is going on am coming home tomorrow “I heard her sigh from the other end and I knew she was damn serious, she never called me by name unless she wanted to make a great emphasis.
I had zoomed out and lost in thinking about Paula when my phone rung, it was one of the guys I had put to find Mr. Benson the father to Paula.
“What’s going on? I asked the moment I picked the call. He told me where Mr. Benson was and immediately called Steve to let him know. I took the moment to review the evidence we had gotten to see if I could see any clues as to who else was involved or how best we could solve the matter once and for all.
It seemed most of the t©p guys where de-ep in the matter. “What money can do?” I shook my head leaning back and thinking throu-gh. Then an idea popped my head. I recalled I had never met face to face with Paula`s father. I decided to take a chance and check out what was going on at his residence in Solwezi, @ssuming he was in Lusaka.
The drive to Solwezi took me less than 2 hours from chingola town, by the time I was getting there the sun was setting. I drove around the small town to check out the main points I knew he had connections and I notice most of his goons seemed alert. I made sure I wore a cap and to avoid being sported all over the city lest Mr. Benson got the news before I could get to him first.
I started with visiting his lodge to check on a few people I still knew from there.
“Hey Ackim, it’s been a while” the accountant greeted me cheerfully as I sat in the corner of the restaurant.
‘hey, sure it has been long, I just [email protected]£ to see how you guys are doing?” I smiled looking up at him
“well business is okey, the boss [email protected]£ here a few hours ago he too [email protected]£ to check on some things” he remarked and I moved in my seat realizing the guy had lied about Mr. Benson`s whereabouts.
“What?” I asked loudly without thinking throu-gh. The man before me looked surprised at my reaction.
“Is there a problem man?” he asked frowning
“Oh no, there is no problem, I mean am just surprised I thought he was out of town” I told him with a grin.
“Well, he was here this morning unless you saying he travelled this afternoon” he smiled
“Um, am sure I was misinformed, anyway I need to go see him now” I stood up not wanting to waste any more time.
“Yeah regards to Paula and the kids” he shouted raising his hand at me as I left. I decided to go check his place out myself just to be sure. I wanted to call Steve and tell him it was false intel I had given him, but I thought it was best I had something else at hand before giving him a call, besides, I realized the guys could find another clue from the place I was given. ma-king a mental note to follow the guy who lied to me and get to the truth myself.
“you will pay for double crossing me you pathetic fool” I spat as I went to Mr. Benson`s mansion.
At the gate I cleared my throat before speaking to the guards.
“Who are you, and what business do you have in this place?” the guy asked me his gun pointed at me.
“You might as put down that gun, someb©dy might get hurt” I chuckled casually.
“Oh yeah, and who could that be?” the guy moved closer to me his red eyes focused on me.
“You act tough huh?” he smiled revea-ling his yellow colored teeth.
“Am here to see my father in law” I cut him short avoiding taking some fight with him. I had no time to waste of a person like him and I calculated two good b!ows would take him out. He looked at me from head to toe and shook his head.
“What? You don’t believe me?” I asked him.
He was still trying to talk rubbish wanting me to show him my ID and claiming the minister had asked for maximum security around his yard and that he would not allow anyone to go in unless it was someone he had called or on appointment.
“Look here, I don’t think you are the right person I should be talking to now…” I could not finish my s£ntence and I saw Mr. Benson walked out with a little limp. I almost bur-st out laughing at the thought of how he got that limp. “Steve you are the man” I smiled inside my heart and seriously looking at him as he walked towards the gate.
“What the hell are you doing here?” he shouted before he could get any closer.
“Sir, am sorry, am I supposed to st©p seeing my father in law now?” I tea-sed knowing he was aware of my [email protected] involvement with Steve. He looked at me and sighed before indicating for the guy to let me in. the guys around kept staring at me and their menacing stance told me somehow they were expecting me.
I followed Mr. Benson into his house, the house I once lived in and fall in love with my dear wife. Nothing had changed over the years, he still had the same furniture and the inside workers too. I looked around as I followed him to the living room and before I could sit, he stood looking at me.
“Can I offer you anything to drink?” he smiled sheepishly I saw there was more to the smile.
“Water would do, thank you Sir” I sighed staying alert as I sat in the couch before him.
“He was silent for a couple of minutes watching me take the water.
“So?” he cleared his throat.
“What brings you here? The last time I heard about you, you were working with someone who wants to destroy my life over false allegations” he started
“Are they?” I asked knowing so well he was just bull sh*tting me as I knew the contents of the recordings.
“You have known me for years Ackim, you are married to my daughter and you and I come a long way, you know I respect you so much and I regard you with high esteem. Now tell me, why do I have the feeling you are quiet disappointed with me?” he looked at me sipping on a [email protected] of his own water.
“Well, I am here so I get the truth from you. I might not trust Steve but I need to know the entire truth if am to trust you Sir” I responded looking at him. The moment was like that movie where two enemies [email protected]£ together but each one trying to [email protected] with the other in order to tra-p them.
“i mean, I have nothing to hide, see, if at all there was something, that fool could have bloated it out alre-ady, I hear he has a tendency of pla-ying hero. That junky is a fool who barks more than he can bite. “He remarked and if felt myself feeling upset, he was the one that was a fool who wanted to sell our country and here he was pla-ying me for an idiot.
“I saw and heard the recording’” I cut him short and he smiled knowingly.
“You are not a fool are you?” he laughed softly shaking his head.
“Where is it?” he asked
“Well, Steve would know better, I never la-id my hands on it” I lied my eyes at him am sure he believed it.
“You are in my house and yet you try to [email protected] with me, I know you are not here for a courtesy visit so tell me why the hell you [email protected]£?” he asked and I tried to focus my eyes at him but the images around me where becoming blurry, I tried to rub my eyes to see properly but it was [email protected] to stay awake, I could feel things going on around me and his voice asking me things but it was like my b©dy was no longer un-der my control.
“What have you done to me?” I struggled to ask
“Well, a little dose that will make me get what I want from you?” he smiled standing above me as leaned back the couch my whole b©dy weak.
“The, the water” I murmured as realization set in but it was too late. I could feel I wasn’t myself but he started asking me questions of which I answered without hesitation.
“Where is Steve? What does he know?” he asked and I looked at his face responded even when my mind was telling me not to.
“He is going to the house I was told you will be at” I responded
“Tell me everything about him” he asked and I heard myself give out all the information I knew about Steve and the operations. As long as I knew it, I gave the correct answer. I could see images of other people walking in but I was not in my right mind to say or do a thing. I watched as one of them [email protected]£d my phone as it rung and speak. I wanted to stand and beat the cra-p out on them but I couldn’t move at all, I felt stuck and desperate.
To be continued…
