Chapter 29: ANNA’S FEAR (1)

The night had surfaced, and Anna woke up from her slumber.

Stretching ha-rd , she yawned. She loved the texture of the be-d on her skin.

” You really are enjoying a lot, sister Enya.” She tapped her hands on the be-d as she said that, before ma-king her way out of it.

She glared around the fine decorated room, admiring its beauty.

She loved the way the breeze blew on her skin, s£nding cold air to her b©dy.

” You should be here by now.” She said, hoping for Lord Rodriguez to show up this instant.

” Joana?” She called, and just as usual, Joana rushed in not wasting a second.

” Yes, My Lady. ” She answered with a bow.

” I nee-d a cold shower, plea-se get my water re-ady.” She requested.

” I will do that immediately. ” She went to the bathroom to get her water re-ady.

” Would you mind for anything tonight? ” Joana asked as soon as she was done.

” Yes, of course. I am starving.”

” How do you feel?”

” I feel great, why did you ask?” She asked back.

” You complained about feeling weak and tired after you had eaten your lunch, I was just being concerned if you feel okay now. ”

” Yes, of course, I am. Thank you. ”

” Anytime. Your water is re-ady. ” She informed.

While Anna bathed, she sat in the tub, ru-bbing the water against her skin before applying soap on it.

She sank her long hair into the water, mas-saging every sides of her scalp.

She was done bathing, she took the towel, tying it around her che-st.

Water droplets rolled out of her b©dy as she walked out of the bathroom to the be-d room.

She searched for one of Enya’s dress, a smile pla-yed on her face as she did so.

Then she took the night dress, the same one Enya wore on the night they made love.

She dropped it on the be-d, first ru-bbing oil on her skin. She ru-bbe-d oil on her hair too, then combing it.

She stared at herself at the mirror while she dressed up, applying a little of her redl-ipstick.

” Joana.” She called again.

Joana walked in, ” My Lady?”

” What’s taking too long for the dinner?” She questioned.

” Forgive me, Your Highness, the food isn’t re-ady yet. ” She apologized.

” What?! ” She yanked. ” Why would dinner not he re-ady by this time? What if His Majesty returns now and request for something to eat, is this what you will tell him? ”

” I… I will talk to the cook to quic-ken up. ”

” Better. Now go. ” Joana left the room instantly.

She has never seen the Queen in such mood like today. And she wouldn’t blame her either, the cook has been in a de-ep conversation with the other chefs when she c@m£ to check.

” What is keeping you all waiting, the queen is annoyed at the delay.” Joana informed. ” You must hurry up, His Majesty might probably be on his way now and he won’t love to hear such a story. ”

” Yes, ma’am. ” They said in unison.

” Mrs Carolina? ” She called.

” Yes, Miss.”

” Uhm.. nothing. Nevermind. You can continue your work.”

Joana didn’t return back to the room until she made sure they were done cooking the dish which didn’t take up to ten minutes.

Joana quic-kly went to Lady Enya’s room to serve her her meal.

” Is the King back?” She asked.

” I doubt.”

” What is taking him too long? ”

” Do not worry about him, I know His Majesty is a strong and br@ve king, he will take care of himself. ”

” I know, I am only worried about the dark. My sister must have known about his travel to Pendamour, who knows what she may be up to on his return.

I know my husband is strong, but he is alone while my sister isn’t. She practices witchcraft. ”

” Don’t worry, my lady, the gods will surely protect him from all evils.”

” Amen.” She concluded the prayer.

*

After Anna had finished eating, she was informed about the King’s return.

She picked a royal robes from the wardrobe, tying it around her b©dy.

She la-id with one side of her b©dy, her hand resting on one hand as she waited for him to show up.

” His Majesty is ma-king his way to the chamber.” Joana informed.

” Is he? ”

She nodded her head.

Anna felt her heart tremble, as she patiently waited for him to show up.

She was anticipating what he’d look like, how it will feel to l@yon the same be-d with him.

When the door opened, and he finally entered, her heart skipped a beat as if she has been waiting for years to see his face.

” My Lord.” She got down from the be-d, walking to him. ” How was your journey? ” She asked.

” Very well. ”

She helped him take of his shi-t, spre-ading it on the hanger stand. ” How did it go? What did mother and father say about the case? ”

” They are working on it. But for the meantime, they are after the witch who helped your sister. ”

She faked a smile, ” I’m happy they are doing some thing about it. How is my little sister, Arwen?”

” She is fine, she s£nds her greetings to you. ” She nods gently.

Anna felt anger de-ep inside her. She knew it was Arwen’s plan that they are after the witch.

She was scared the witch will have to expo-se her plans if they eventually find her.

Oh, have Arwen told them about her plans with the witch? The p@rt where she would take the same appearance with Enya?

” Are you hungry? I will s£nd the maids to get you something to eat.”

” No, I’m not hungry. ”

” Are you sure? ”

” Your mother served me food before I left. I just want to sleep, that’s all. ”

~ THAT MORNING AT PENDAMOUR ~

*

” I am so sorry for the disturbance caused by one of my daughters. I have never thought of some thing so serious like this to ever happen. plea-se, accept my apology.”

” You are not my problem, King Neheb, your daughter is. And for the sake of our relationsh!p, I will do no harm to her.

She has gone too far in her acts, likewise she has threatened my wife. And anyone who threatens my wife, threatens me too.

Like you have said, I do accept your apology but I will not be st©pped if she ever lays her hand on my wife. I will not hesitate to have her put to death.” He warned.

” I un-derstand. I have alre-ady s£nd some of my armies after the witch, Arwen told us that Anna had requested for powers from witchcraft.

We will try as much as possible to see that we get to the bo-ttomof this before some thing worster happens.” Neheb explained.

” Better.”

As they kept discussing, Arwen walked in. ” Greetings.” She bowed.

” What is it?” King Neheb asked.

” The witch is nowhere to be found. We have searched around the territory but yet, we could not find her.

I think she has flee from the kingdom. She must have known we were coming after her. ”

” Tell the armies to quit the search. Tonight, they will be leaving to Brok as spies. ” He sighed. ” I believe we will find both she and Anna.”

” I will do that immediately.” Turns to Lord Rodriguez, ” How is my sister?” She asked.

” She is fine.”

She smiled satisfied. ” Tell her I am okay, and do s£nd my greetings to her.”

” I will.” She bowed again, exiting the room.

Chapter 30: ANNA’S FEAR 2.

” My Lady, Jonah is here to see you.” Joana informed.

” Jonah?” She asked.

” Yes, he’s here. Should I let him in?”

” Of course.” Anna was wondering who this Jonah was, and what relationsh!phe has to do with Enya.

She glared at the man from head to toe, ” Hey, Jonah. It’s been a long time.” She acted like she did know him.

” Is there a problem?” She asked.

” Not at all, Your Highness. I was bothered about you, it’s been dats we last went out for practice. ”

What practice? She thought to herself.

Faking a smile, she said. ” Things has been a lot difficult these days and I couldn’t cope up with the practice. ”

” I un-derstand. So, can we go on with it today? ” He asked.

” Yes. ” She knew she was only damaging her plans accepting to go on the training.

Now the question is… What training is he talking about?

Joana stood waiting for Anna to request for her bow and arrow, and to get her dress changed.

She was surprised at her new attitude and the way she had reacted earlier but, she thought maybe the trauma of her wicked sister still troubles her.

” My Lady, your bow is in your wardrobe.” She told her.

” Oh, thank you. ” Anna’s eyes wi-de-ned as she searched for the bow in the wardrobe.

She hated shooting arrows, and she never knew Enya learnt it.

She blamed herself for not being so prepared for this. Her fears increa-sed.

Luckily, Enya always hung her practice wear just above her bow, so it was easier for Anna to identify it.

She wore it, and it was a bit lossy on her b©dy. ” You’ve lost weight, My Lady.” Joana said, noticing the difference.

” You know I ha-rd ly eat these days, plus the fact about what’s going on, I lost appetite in the meals. I will regain my weight as soon as every thing gets back to normal. And besides, your really smart at observing. ”

Joana smile politely. ” My mother always say that.”

” I see.” Taking the bow into her hands, she said. ” Let’s get going. ”

~ PENDAMOUR ~

*

Arwen dropped her food on the desk, slowly b!tt!g on the yam sausage.

She was happy when Lord Rodriguez told her Enya was doing fine.

It was as if her heart melted a bit from her troubling thoughts.

But on the other hand, she knew her happiness would only be for a while.

As far as the witch is still out there, and Anna still not showing signs of quiting her evil intentions, nothing seems to be safe.

She put another spoon of yam into her mouth, she was happy and likewise restless in thoughts.

She can’t believe Anna would do such a thing. Since she was little, Anna was her favorite while Enya… she was just a story to tell.

And now, she can’t believe she is helping her once time enemy. And the very one who was her best, has turned to be her worst.

The yam almost choked her, she quic-kly gr@bb£d the glas-s of water, gulping it down.

She sighed heavily, feeling relieved again from not being choked to death.

Then the thought of what happened that night Anna took her displa-yed in her mind.

She remembered every conversation they made, and how she pleaded with Anna to let Enya be.

Then, it occurred to her that she was missing a p@rt yet to be told.

Some thing that had taken place that very night no one knows about.

Moreover, she didn’t realize she was cutting her skin until the knife had given her a de-ep cut.

” Ahh!” She winced at the pain, dropping the knife r0ûghly on the table.

She put the affected f!nger into her mouth, su-cking out the blood.

She remembered.

She remembered it now.

The facial impersonation from the magic spell. She left the food she was eating, rushing to the king’s room, hoping to find her parents there.

But the guard told her that they were out in a walk to the garden.

Arwen held her go-wn high enough for her to run, she didn’t st©p running until she was out if the castle and off she went to the garden.

” Father!” She called, sighting them from afar. ” Wait!”

They st©pped, waiting for her to come closer.

” Arwen, what’s going on?” He asked.

” Thank goodness if found you two.” She said in between her breath.

” We weren’t taken, were we? ”

” That’s not what I meant,” she heaved heavily. ” There’s something I forgot to tell you two about the witch. ”

” What is it? ” Lady Moreen asked, feeling interested.

” Before Anna left that night, she gave her two drugs. One was to erase Enya’s memories, she won’t be able to remember anything or anyone.

And the second one was facial impersonation. This will give Anna Enya’s exact looks, so that it will be difficult to determine the real Enya from the fake one. ”

” How sure are we that she isn’t in the castle now? ” Lady Moreen said, worried.

” If she is, Lord Rodriguez could have s£nt us a message. We have to wait a little while before we take any action. ” He suggested.

” Staying here won’t give us the chance to find out, I suggest I go to Brok and see for myself if she has indeed taken over Enya’s place. ”

” How will you know the real Enya? ” Lady Moreen said.

” Do not worry about it, leave it to me to find out myself. When shall I leave? ” She asked her father.

” When do you wish to go?” He asked back.

” I don’t know. You make the decision, I follow. ”

” You must get yourself together and be re-ady for whatever that you may face. Leave as early as the c0ckcrows. ”

She nodded her head. ” Yes, father. ” She left.

~ BACK AT BROK ~

*

Anna picked the first arrow, aiming at the centre circle of the board.

She wasn’t sure of her capability, she faked a cough. ” Are you alright?” Joana asked, holding her.

She kept on coughing until the bow and arrow fell off her grip. ” I… I… I don’t…” She stammered.

” I think the practice ends here.” Joana said to Jonah who picked up the bow from the ground.

He gathered the arrows together, putting it into its bag. He followed after.
