CHAPTER 13 ~~

AUTHOR’S POV

Layla sat still holding back her tears which were threatening to fall.

“What?” Layla asked pretending not to have heard Devon.

“Layla, you used to be so close to Deena. You might not be in good terms now but I feel she will listen to you when you give her opinion on certain things” Devon said and Layla clenched her fist.

She had no idea, her video is actually playing live on her social media accounts.

“I’m glad you know so well that Deena and I aren’t in good terms right now. Devon I can’t believe you called me out here just to ask for Deena’s contact. You’ve got many ways to get Deena’s contact and you chose to do it the ha-rd way, were you really expecting me to give you her contact” Layla protested.

“Deena why are you overreacting it’s just a little request I’m asking of you and you’re reacting this way. I get it that you might still be holding a grudge from years back but can we just let that slide. We’re adults now and you’re still acting this way. Exactly, I have other means to get it but I don’t want to cause any commotion because of this and You’re…” Devon pursed when his phone started ringing.

He looked at his phone screen.

“Excuse me, let me take this call” Devon said and stood up.

When he walked to the other side of the VIP sp-ot and took the call looking at Layla.

“Devon, you’re trending online. I think someone is taking a secret video of you and wow Devon you really hide your feelings for Deena so well that even your best buddy had no idea. Anyways I’m happy for you bro” Joshua (Devon’s best friend) said over the phone.

“What? You mean my confession is playing live on social media?” Devon asked curiously as he furrowed his eyebrows.

“Exactly, it’s playing live on her social media account and you’re standing on a good sp-ot right now”

“What the hell! She’s still live? I will call you back” Devon said and hung up then walked back to their table and snatched Layla’s phone from her hand.

“Devon what do you think you’re doing?” Layla asked seriously and Devon turned off the video, switching off her phone as well.

“I came to you directly because I didn’t want to cause a commotion about this and I can’t believe you’re going live already. Layla what’s the meaning of this? I apologized already, how come you’re still holding so much grudge” Devon blurted placing her phone on the table.

Layla looked away fuming inside.

“I think I’ve done my side of the story and I’ve apologized to you so I have nothing more to say to you and I’m glad you made my confession public, you made me get closer to my goal” Devon smi-rked and left the VIP sp-ot.

He walked to the receptionist and paid his bills before leaving.

Devon why did you have to develop feelings for Deena? Why her of all people? I wasn’t expecting it would hurt this much, why does it hurt so much? You rejected me because of Deena, it’s been ages but all those hurt just flowed back. Layla uttered in her head as the tears threatening to fall roll down her cheeks.

“Ma’am this is the wine you ordered for” The waiter said placing it on the table.

Layla grabbed the glas-s swiftly and gulped it down in one go.

“Waiter are you a fan of automobile racing?” Layla asked with her face on the empty glas-s.

“Yes ma’am, I’m a hu-ge fan” He said with a smile.

“Who’s your favorite racer?” Layla asked calmly.

“For the nationals Deena Gu is my favorite while for the…” He couldn’t complete his statement when Layla pushed him.

“Get lost. Not you too. Get lost” Layla screamed wildly.

“I’m sorry ma’am, I’m sorry” He apologized and walked away.

“Why does everyone like Deena? What’s so good about her? I competed for the internationals because I hated being compared to Deena but I really have to go throu-ghthis again” Layla uttered with a frown as hot tears roll down her cheeks.

Next day…
Tristan didn’t pursuit his goal of making Deena his girlfriend.

Tristan and Deena went out for lunch.

“Tristan they have delicious meals here, luckily we’re here early” Deena complimented with a wide smile.

“Indeed” Tristan concurred.

A young good looking man walked to their table and stood next to Deena.

“Hello beautiful, can I have a minute with you?” He asked curiously and Deena eyed him warily.

“A minute will do pretty. Bro please can you excuse us for a minute, I would love to have a word with your sister” He said to Tristan and Tristan smi-rked.

“Did you just call her my sister?” Tristan asked with a blank expression on his face and the young man nodded.

“Of course, you’re obviously siblings. I’ve been observing for a while now and you’re definitely siblings” He pointed out and Tristan moved to the seat next to Deena.

He placed his hand on Deena’s shoulders and gave her a peek on the cheeks.

“Do you still think we’re siblings? Scram!” Tristan said coldly.

“I’m sorry” The young man apologized and walked away.

“What the nerve! He got some nerve to call us siblings” Tristan said seriously with jealousy written all over his face.

Deena chuckled as she watched Tristan’s reaction.

“I wasn’t expecting you to take care of the situation this way” Deena teased.

“I didn’t just do that for him alone. I did it for every other guy looking this direction as well” Tristan frowned.

“My arms are heavy right?” Tristan asked cutely and Deena smiled.

“Not really. Let’s have our lunch quickly and go sightseeing” Deena suggested and Tristan smiled.

“That’s a perfect idea” Tristan smiled and the waitress brou-ght their order.

“It looks even more now it’s in front of me” Deena said grinning from ear to ear as she anticipated to start eating.

“Thank you” Tristan said politely to the waitress and she bowed then left.

“It’s looks delicious but…” Deena pursed looking at the shrimps.

If I happen to tell Tristan I don’t know how to peel shrimps, he may look at me like a spoilt child. I think should try peeling it off myself this time. Deena said in her head. She was about putting on the gloves to start peeling the shrimps but Tristan snatched the gloves from her hands.

“Enjoy your lunch, leave the peeling to me” Tristan said putting on the gloves.

“What about you? Ain’t you eating?” Deena asked concerned and he smiled.

“Do you know the fun part of eating shrimps?”

“No” Deena said and Tristan’s eyes were fixed on the shrimps he was peeling.

“It’s eating them while you peel it. You might find it tiring but it’s more fun that way so here you go” Tristan said feeding Deena the shrimp he just peeled.

“How’s it?” He asked with a smile and Deena nodded.

“It’s delicious. You should eat some as well” Deena said jovially feeding Tristan some pork meat.

“Ahhh…. This is the most delicious thing I’ve eaten today” Tristan exclaimed with his funny face expression, making Deena laugh.

“Go ahead and eat. I will be done with this before you even know it” He added as he fastened the peeling.

Tristan and Deena were done having lunch so they strolled down the street.

“Tristan it really feels like we’re at the countryside” Deena said as she felt the fresh air flow throu-ghher dress.

“Don’t catch a cold, it’s quite windy out here because of the sea. Hold my hand before some walks up to us, calling us siblings” Tristan said and Deena laughed, he slide his fingers into Deena’s.

“We don’t even look alike why would he as-sume that? I guess he was just trying to look down on you because you look simple”

“Simple? I don’t think I look that simple. I’m more of a hot and well groomed gug. You have no idea how many awards I’ve won because of my charisma, Deena you’re one lucky girl” Tristan pouted.

“Lucky? How am I lucky?”

“You’re the first girl I’m going on a trip with apart from my colleagues at work anyways those were business trips so it doesn’t count”

“Hmm… If you’re being honest about that then what’s your relationship with Layla? Your story with her pretty seems like that of some ex” Deena inquired pretending not to care.

“Hah! No way, that’s basically impossible. Layla and I don’t have that kind of history, we were just clas-smates from highschool and it doesn’t even seem like a big deal to me” Tristan protested with a scoff.

“I see but were you close when you were in highschool?” Deena asked curiously and Tristan laughed.

“Not at all, I just don’t make friends with anyone. We only crossed path at the racing stadium because she was a racer and was on your team as well” Tristan said.

They were in same school and she still couldn’t make such an amazing guy like Tristan fall for her then I don’t think Layla can win over me this time around. Deena uttered in her head with a sm-irk.

“I see. Tristan can I ask you a question?”

“Of course, go ahead”

“What’s your greatest wish?” Deena asked curiously and he smiled.

Tristan bend down to Deena’s ears and whispered in her ears.

“DG is my greatest wish”

“DG? What’s DG?” Deena asked curiously and he smiled.

“You take a guess, I’m pretty sure that’s an easy puzzle to solve” Tristan said looking away and Deena hit him.

“Why are you being mysterious about this? What’s the meaning of DG?” She asked curiously and Tristan laughed.

“There’s only one DG my head can think of right now and that’s my greatest wish” Tristan said holding Deena’s hand softly as he felt the texture of her skin.

HOURS LATER..
Tristan was fast asleep on the bed, he fell asleep immediately they came back from their stroll hours back.

Deena went out of the house to enjoy the sunset.

Tristan woke up sluggishly, stretching his arms tiredly.

“I thought I was only taking a nap, I can’t believe I slept this long” Tristan uttered looking at his wristwatch.

“Deena! Deena!” He called out heading to the sitting room.

He looked around but Deena wasn’t around.

She didn’t tell me, she was going out. Tristan uttered in his head and went out of their suite.

——

It’s getting dark, I think I should head back to the suite. Tristan must have woken up. Deena muttered in her mind and stood up from where she was sitting then head back to their suite.

“Tristan!” Deena called out as she got into the suite.

It’s unusually quiet, things are going too well to be normal. Deena gasped in her head looking around.

“Let’s not jinx this vacation” Deena uttered waving the thought but someone covered her nose and her mouth from behind with an handkerchief.

“Deena!” Tristan called out from outside.

Deena struggled to get free but slowly lost consciousness..
