?Chapter Twenty-One ?

~A slim chance~

?NAOMI?

“What’s wrong, Lilian? Why are you crying?” Naomi asked, concern were evident in her face, her arms were wrapped around her friend’s body as she kept consoling her.

“He…He left.” Lilian cried.

“Who left?” Lilian didn’t answer but kept crying. “Please, Lilian. Talk to me and stop keeping worried.” Naomi pleaded.

“Bryan…he left!” Lilian yelled at the top of her voice, crying uncontrollably.

Naomi arched her brows in de-eper confusion.

First, who was Bryan?

Secondly, why was Lilian crying over this Bryan of a guy?

Thirdly, What the hell had happened between them?

Lilian wasn’t married in case you are wondering. She was just who woman who loves to live in the moment.

She prefer to be a single mother than to be stuck in a fu-ck up marriage.

She never admired her friend’s married life even when they were probably the best couple she has ever seen. Lilian. never had a great childhood experience with her parents, who kept fighting and insulting each other in the presence of their children.

Lilian wasn’t the only child, she was the third out of six children.

The first born who happens to be a boy, ran away from home with the second child _a girl_ They left just her and the other little ones with their abusive and annoying parents. Saving themselves first.

Lilian wanted to run away as well but the thought of leaving her little ones scares her. So she decided to stay with them and endure every pain.

After a while, their father died of heart attack. Their mother started taking drugs, sleeping with all kind of men, she cared less about them.

Lilian was beyond broken.

She took care of her siblings all by herself.

She gave her siblings a chance to live and be happy regardless of what they might have experience at their young age.

After a while, her mother died, leaving them completely alone.

There was no different between she being alive and she being dead by the way.

The only different there was, there was no fu-cking person around to yell at them or beat them for no reason.

Lilian started working her as-soff just to provide means for her little ones…

She suffered….

They suffered….

Naomi have been with them throu-ghtheir tough times. Naomi stick with her and her little ones. Naomi was from a wealthy family even before she met her husband who happens to be wealthy and famous as well.

Naomi gave them a much more comfortable life. She gave Lilian a better paying job. And that’s how they even became best friends.

They know each other’s de-epest secret. There was no secret between them. They were each other’s backbone and supporter.

Naomi trust Lilian with her life and Lilian trust her with her life as well.

Because of all Lilian had experience while growing up as a child, she decided not to marry and just live the moment. She decided to keep away from anything called ‘marriage.’ or ‘commitment.’

Although, her little siblings were now married and have kids now. And as for her eldest siblings? She hasn’t heard from them ever since they left.

Naomi knows all this and seeing Lilian crying because of a man seem to baffles her.

Who the hell is this mean exactly to make her tough friend shed tears in a relationship?

When Lilian had even called her, she never expected to come here only to see her in tears. She had sounded very okay on the phone so this was kind of a surprise for Naomi. And unexpected.

“Bryan? who is that, Lilian?” She asked again.

“My boyfriend.” Lilian said.

“Wait, you had a boyfriend?” Naomi asked, sounding surprise.

“Why do you sound so surprise?” Lilian questioned with an eye roll.

“Honestly, I’m so surprise. You didn’t tell me about being in any relationship.”

“Well, now I’m telling you.”

“How long have you been in this relationship?” She asked again.

Lilian sniffed. “A year now.”

Naomi eyes went wide at this. “A year? A fu-cking year and you are just telling me now?”

“Hey, you had a lot of things going on with you and Ace, I didn’t want to bring in my problems.” She justified.

“Telling me you have a boyfriend isn’t a problem.” Naomi reasoned out. “A rather a celebration.”

“Boys are problems.” She sniffed. “And heartbreakers.”

Lilian was quite too old to act this way over a boy that’s very much younger than her but still Naomi wished her friend will be able to find someone who will captivate her and change her thinking about marriage and love.

“Well, it will be very better if you date men your age, Lilian.” Naomi stated.

“Are you here to tell me who to date and who not to date or you are here to console me?”

“For the both, Lily. And besides I didn’t know you were crying over a boy and not even a man! Like come on, Lily, you are too old for this.”

Lilian glared, pulling away from Naomi. “You know what, don’t worry. Just go so I can drown in my misery, alone!” She said, picking a bottle of water and gulping from it. “Aren’t you leaving?”

Naomi let out a de-ep sigh. You know I can’t leave you like this, Lily. Wait, do you even love this guy in question?”

“of course not! I’m crying because he was the one who broke up with me and not me breaking up with him!”

“I don’t get. All this tears isn’t because you love this guy but it’s rather because of your pride?”

“Yes! What do you think? That I love him?” She tsked, shaking her head in disbelief. “You of all people should know me, Naomi. I can’t ever fall in love not after him.”

Naomi knitted her brows. “After him?”

Lilian nods, grinning as if remembering the ‘him.’ “Yes. He was the first man to ever captivate my heart and make me fall in love. He was the first guy to ever make me think of marriage.”

“What happened to him?” Naomi asked.

“Things happened to him.” She simply responded letting out a de-ep breath and wiping her eyes dried.

“Did he broke your heart?” Naomi stared at her, giving her those pitiful look.

“Hey, stop giving me that look.” Lilian said, laughing. “I’m fine. Really! It’s been a while now and I’ve even forgotten about him or the feelings.”

“If you really have, you won’t be playing guys like the way you are doing. You wouldn’t have had those dreamy look on your face when you were talking about him.”

“If I haven’t forgotten about him…I wouldn’t be here now, Naomi. I’ve forgotten everything. Everything.” She smiled. “Damn, I will make sure to break up with any guy I date before they even think of breaking up with me.” She muttered to herself.

“You should rather think of getting married, Lily. Do you even intend of doing so?”

“What about Ace?” Lilian asked, ignoring Naomi’s question.

Naomi just rolled her eyes over the change of topic. But decided to drop the discussion. “He’s fine. I think.”

“What about Paulo, is he still poking his nose around?”

She nodded. “He even went to the doctor who treated Ace at that time.”

“Wow. I love that guy’s spirit.” Lilian laughed.

“Not funny. And how can you love his spirit. If this guy keep searching, he will find answers. And he might also find the last piece.”

“You mean the killer?”

She shook her head. “No.”

“Then who?”

“The witness.”

?BALLERINA?

“Are you going to let him help you, my princess?” Heather asked.

Ballerina shrugged, letting out a de-ep sigh. “I don’t know, Heather. Surely, Aunt Claire was murdered and who ever murdered that night was also the same person who hit me on the head the next morning.” She paused. “I should have seen something if I wasn’t blind.” She added.

“You need to stop blaming yourself, my princess.”

“I can’t help it.” She said truthfully.

“Then how about you just accept this detective help to investigate with you about her death and find the culprit. That way you won’t feel guilty again.” Heather suggested.

Ballerina considered this suggestion for a while, nodding her head slowly. “You might be right.” She ar-ose to her feet. “But first I need to see my aunt’s body. I need to acknowledge the fact that she’s truly gone.”
