“What do you see?” She asked him..
“Darkness” c@m£ his reply.
“And now?” She asked again after a while.
“More darkness, very thick this time” he answered her, his eyes shut and his b©dy still positioned in a meditative posture.
“Any light?” She asked and for the first few seconds, he said nothing..
“Yes, a little” he answered her.
“And now?” She asked again.
“Light. More light” he answered. “Forest. Trees. Streets. Sto-res. Houses. Churches. Clubs. Vehicles. School, wait.. School?” He repeated the word again. “I feel her pres£nce in a school. Very familiar” he said, his shoulder going high.
“Good. Now try to trace her” she cajoled..
“I-I can’t” he said after a while, a frown crawling to his face. “It’s unplea-sant. Her smell” he said with a grimace but his eyes were still ti-ghtly shut.
“That’s because she’s your death. It’s won’t always be like that though. You have to ignore the unplea-santness and trace her” she said..
“I feel her but I can’t see her, she’s in a school” he answered.
“Do it again” she cooed him..
He was quiet for a long while and suddenly he started vibr@ting, whimpers flew from his mouth as he kept shaking.. She looked at him strangely and his eyes flung open. He looked around and his gaze rested on her. She c0cked a brow at him.
“I felt h0t. It was like my whole b©dy was on fire” he said in a hoarse tone.
“That explain why you can’t trace her. She’s untraceable cos she posses a power more stronger than yours” she explained..
“So how do I find her?”
“We’ll have to use the seeker. It’ll take time but we’ll get her”
“Do you think it’ll work on her, considering how powerful you said she is?”
“We alre-ady have a hint that she’s in a school.. So it’ll work. I just have to look up on all the schools around here. It’ll just take time” she said and he nodded.
“What’s that?” She asked, pointing to his shoulder. He trailed her f!nger to his shoulder and there was a burn on it. His brows furrowed at it, it looked fresh.. He didn’t feel any pain but the burn looked de-ep and painful. His gaze quic-kly j£rked to hers and her gaze moved from the burn to him, she gave him a knowing look..
“It’s her”

💚Kayla’s POV💚
.
“I have no idea about what you’re accusing me of” I said and almost immediately a ha-rd push met my shoulder, ma-king me stagger backwards.
“Liar! I saw how you stared at it yesterday, you were obviously jealous of the phone cover and since you couldn’t get it, you stole it!” The red haired girl accused.
“It was just a harmless peek! It only took one second and simply because I glanced at it doesn’t mean I stole it” I said.
“Yes. It. Does” she shoved me backwards with each words and my back hit a wall.
“I’ll give you one last time nerd, give it back now” she said, her palm stretched out to me.
“I didn’t take your phone cover!” I defended honestly for the umpteenth time. And immediately the red haired girl dashed towards me, she gr@bb£d me backpack from my hold and began unZi-pping it.
Wait.. She has no right to search my bag. I’m not a thief and she’s not even the owner of whatever phone cover they were talking about but she seem more affected about it’s loss. It’s probably because she’s the thief and she’s trying to pin it on me so she wouldn’t be figured out.
As I made to charge toward her, her friends held me back to the wall, ma-king my movement impossible but I didn’t st©p struggling.
She Zi-pped down the whole sides of my bag and upturned it, emptying it completely and r0ûghly to the ground. I gave her a ha-rd look as she used her legs to scatter my stuffs, spre-ading them all over the tiled floor.
She fli-pped her hair back before looking at me, throwing the empty backpack at my face.
“You smart bit-ch.. You left it at home didn’t you?” She asked me, raising her brow up at me.
“I alre-ady told you that I didn’t take it!” I answered, raising my voice. Why won’t she just believe me.
“Well Mandy said you did, why would I doubt her?” She asked giving me a cold glare. My anger ru-bbe-d off on my breathing, ma-king it ha-rd .
“Listen bit-ch, I’m not in the least pained about the phone cover, my daddy can always get me a better one but I’m just mad that you keep denying it and trust me, I’m not letting this slide. You’ll pay for this somehow” she said, running her gaze over me. She walked up to me and I saw her hand going to my trou-ser but it was too late to st©p her and her friends still had a hold on me.
She snatched my phone from my pocket and smashed it ha-rd on the floor before I could utter a word. After ma-king contact with the tiled floor, the phone shattered, bits flying around.
My eyes wi-den as I saw it and immediately the girls let me go, I quic-kly rushed to it, I crouch beside it and picked the phone up.. I quic-kly did a scan on it and the screen had lots of cracks on it, some p@rts of the phone were missing too..
With shaky hands, I began gathering them up, placing the p@rts I could find back to it’s sp©t, I adjusted my glas-ses and tried turning the phone on but it wasn’t working.. Honestly, I didn’t expect it to after that harsh smashing.. It’s completely ruined. I sighed and put it into my backpack, I packed my books and other stuffs before slinging the bag back across my shoulder and walking to clas-s..
Some really mushed up mornings.
****
After the random school activities, I head home.. I got to the bus station, hopped on when it arrived and moved my bag to my l@ps when the bus began moving. Getting to my bus st©p, I climbe-d down with some other conveyers.
I head home, pas-sing throu-gh an alley to make my journey fas-ter. I heard footsteps behind me and before I could turn, I was dragged r0ûghly by my shoulder and slammed on the wall.
My glas-ses were at the verge of falling at the gesture but I was quic-k to catch it.
I looked and saw Shane, his other guys were beside him. My heart lurch forward as reality dawn on me.
He flashed me a lopsided grin.
“Shocked?” He spoke up, the sm-irk still on his face. “We left you in school today for this?”
He revealed.
“What do you want from me, Shane?” I asked and he stepped closer to me.
“Me? Want something from you?” He tea-sed. “You think I’ll be here if Andrew was with us?”
He raised his voice.
“Look, I’m sorry about Andrew. I didn’t know he’d be given detention and I’m sorry about it. Can you just let me go?” I said with pleading eyes.
“Let you go?!” Billy gawked at me, coming to stand really close to Shane.
“You know for a nerd you have some really daring guts!” He seethed, charging toward me.. He raised his hand up and I suspected he was going to sma-ck me, my eyes shut itself out of fear and I bent my head downward, waiting for it to land.
Five seconds past and I felt nothing. Slowly, I opened my eyes and looked around me..
My gaze dart to the floor and I saw Shane, Billy and Zach on it. Weakened and wounded. Another guy stood in front of them, standing akimbo and backing me.
I noticed Shane had a cut on his cheeks and his breathing was the ha-rd est..
“Now off you three go!” The guy said and immediately the trio sprang up and rushed off. I took in a hvge blob of saliva, relieved that I had been saved.
I bent and tried to get my breathing back to normal.
“Are you okay?”
I looked up to see him and my brows narrowed from the familiarity of his face..
“You?” I questioned, looking him over.
“Yes, it’s me” he said, giving me a lopsided smile. “I told you we’d meet again right?”
I nodded abs£ntmindedly. I stare at his face, his chin had a small cut and blood surrounded the cut.
“Y-you have a cut” I told him, trying to t©uçh it but he pu-ll-ed back sharply. “Is it from the fight?” I asked and he nodded wryly.
“But it’s okay”
“If you want I can help you treat it. My house is just two blocks away from here” I said.
“Um.. Okay” he said after a thoughtful silence. I nodded and led him, I noticed he was steps behind me.
We walked until we got to our house, I walked to the porch, fetched the house keys and opened the door. I walked in and he followed, I locked up behind him. He stood on the carpet, staring at the house and tilting his head from side to side..
“I’ll go get the first aid box, you sit over there”
I left him in the living room and got the first aid box from the storage room. I left my backpack on a couch and walk to him with the box in my grip.
I sit beside him and took out a cotton board, leaving the box on the coffee table. I moved it to hisl-ips and he pu-ll-ed his head backward.
“I nee-d to wipe the blood out first” I tell him and he slowly pushed his head to me.
I wiped the mouth of the wound and left the bloody cotton bud on the floor. I took a cleaner one and applied a healing ointment on it. I pu-ll back to him and placed it on the wound..
“Ouch!” He pu-ll-ed back sharply.
“Sorry. I should’ve warned you that it stings” I said with a placating look.
I pu-ll closer and applied more of the ointment on it.
“You left In a hurry the last time. How is your wound now?” I asked him, trying to start a conversation.
“Fine” he answered simply and held my hand, I felt the spark just like the last time from the t©uçh and he pu-ll away immediately.
“That’s enough” he said and I nodded before putting it away, I reach for the plaster.
“You got sh0t seven times, why?” I asked him and he was quiet, I raised my face from his chin to his face.. He was expressionless.
“It’s okay if you don’t want to talk about it but you’re really lucky to have survived it and this quic-k too. It doesn’t always happen, you know” I said, covering the wound up.
“All done” I told him.
“Thank you” he said.
“You’re welcome and thanks for earlier. If you hadn’t shown up and helped me, I don’t think I’d have made it home in one piece” I said and he gave me a strange look..
“So our last time meeting was kind of weird, confusing and all and it ended the same way but here, we meet again. I told you the last time but I don’t think you remember it considering how much pain you were pas-sing throu-gh then, so I’ll say it again. I’m Kayla, Kay for short. You?” I asked and he gave me a blank stare for a while and suddenly his brows twitched like he was thinking about something, he suddenly j£rked up and when his gaze met me, he had a curious look. A grimace scurried out on his face too.
“I-I’m Melvin” he said like he the name sounded new to his ears.
“Okay Melvin. It’s nice to meet you”

CHAPTER 7✏️

.
The electrifying contact with her skin made him j£rk.
How he found her had been a miracle. Belle had planted the seeker in him after picking out the area where the school she attends was located, he had hurried off since the day was still bright and with the seeker, though with difficulty he had found her, right in the middle of being hit. From her glas-ses, he recognized her, her eyes were shut ti-ghtly out of fear.
It took only a snap for him to figure out what was going and yet another to take the boys down, though it had risked him a cut. A cut that made him feel pain once again, obviously because of her. As he stood in front of her, he felt a new different feeling. He felt alive and more human and when she looked at him, he saw a sort of connection in her eyes. It was close to being unexplainable.
As she treated his wound, her slender f!ngerstou-ching his skin repeatedly s£nt sparks flying from his insides but he ignored it. He has to if he nee-ded answers.
“.. I’m Kayla. You?”
She was right about him forgetting her name the last time, he had been too terrified and shocked to the bones to remember anything and that was another strange thing. He never forgets anything.
As the question registered in his head he felt it spinning, he saw himself in an imaginary ride, a long yet quic-k one and it made sick. A grimace stayed on his face as he kept going in circles, round and round in an endless twist and towards an endless direction and when it all finally c@m£ to an end, he saw a boy. A boy that looked just like him, the only difference was that he was younger and he had shorter hair but every other thing rhymed completely with him.
He was standing all alone in a garden, smiling at something that he couldn’t see and sniffing at a chrysanthemum plant. His plucked one out and smiled de-eply as he draws it to his nose and sniff.
“Don’t keep me waiting child. Your mom will be really pissed if I don’t get you back this minute!” a low yet strict voice called out.
He ignored it and smiled again, he took another sniff at the flower.
“Melvin!”
Like a flash, he got catapulted back to reality. It caused him to j£rk and when he raised his head up to look at her.. He still had that grimace from the quic-k trip, the quic-k trip to his other life, his past one. For the first time he was able to remember something, to be fully as-sured that he wasn’t born this way. He never believed that he once was a human but he had just seen it, he had relived it in his head.
But how?
Could she be the cause of it again?
Melvin? Could that be his name? And why did he suddenly snap out when it was said?
Could it be that the whole thing had only happened to answer her question?
So many questions lingered in his head, ma-king it hurt slightly as he tried to push his way back into the past. The familiar pain that he had always felt each time he tried to think of himself In an entirely different world and position c@m£. His whole b©dy weakened at the f0rç£d movement, just like it always had.
“I-I’m Melvin” he said. The pronunciation brou-ght a twist to his vocal cords, a very familiar twist but the name sounded new to his ears and it c@m£ out like a new word that he had just learnt. He just learnt his name. His birth name and he felt happy about it.
“Okay Melvin. It’s nice to meet you”
He was quiet, he felt the weakness in his b©dy from earlier, so he just stared at her instead. His gaze caught the outside view from the window and he realized that it was evening alre-ady.
.
🍸Kayla’s POV🍸
.
“So um.. Do you want anything to drink, you must feela bit exhausted from the fight. What should I get you?” I asked “water coffee, jui-ce.. We’re out of wine currently” I said with a nervous laugh.
“I’m fine” he answered “I have to go now”
“Okay. Thanks a lot for earlier” I said and walked him to the door. He gave me a small wave and walked away hurriedly. I walk back to the house.
I pack the first aid box and disposed the used items.
With an audible yawn, I walked to my room, took my shoes off, gr@bb£d my bag and brou-ght out my phone, I checked it out and tried turning it on again, hopefully some sorta miracle can happen but who was I kidding, nothing of that kind happened.
I left it on my nightstand, gr@bb£d a novel from my shelf, relaxed on my be-d and re-ad.
******
“What’re you saying?” I asked, fright all over my face.
“That you’re mine, my cure and my life!”
His voice was cold, very cold and toecurling. I couldn’t see his face, didn’t bother to but his voice gave me a full description of his looks and I don’t think I ever want to see him.
“What do you mean? I don’t even know you” I said. I wanted to run, everything in me screamed at me to run, to get out of this horrible place and faraway from this monstrous voice but I couldn’t, it was as if my legs were transfixed. A larger p@rt of me only itched to find out about whatever was going on.
“It’s not necessary. I’m from your other life, the real one. And I nee-d you to fulfill fate, to end all this!” He growled.
“What are you even saying!”
“Kayla” I heard a familiar voice behind me and I tilt my head, I sight mom beckoning on me to come forward, her face had a dim expression, something that I couldn’t re-ad.
“Mom!” I squealed, finally relieved and happy that I was seeing a less scary face, a face of someone I know. As I took a quic-k step to meet her, another voice spoke..
“No. You can’t go to her! Not now! You’re mine and we should be together, you can’t leave until it’s over!” He said and I was about disapproving but found myself walking toward it, toward the voice..
“Kayla!” Mom called again and I turned, she had tears on her face, lots of tears and she cried more, begging me to come to her. “You belong here, to us!” She cried, falling on her knees.
I looked beside her and saw Tracy, my eyes wi-den and a tear fell, my mouth opened but no word c@m£ out, so I just let it hang.
“She’s right Kay, you belong to us!” She added and the whole of my b©dy wanted badly to go to them but I found myself shaking my head in disapproval. It was like another being, a different me was ruling my physical b©dy.
“I’m sorry guys” I said and took a swift turn then walking toward the strange yet scary voice.
****
My eyes flung open and I roll them around my room, it rested on mom sitting beside my be-d. How did she get in without me noticing, it must’ve been the weird nightmare again that caused me to be de-eply asleep. I remember falling asleep after re-ading the novel I had taken in the space of an hour.
“You’re awake” mom said and I nodded before sitting up. I yawn and she smiled at me.
“I prepared some food. You should eat something before going back to be-d” she said and I started getting out of be-d..
“What happened to your phone?” She asked as I made for my fl!pflops, I gave her a look.
“It got smashed” I answered plainly.
“You should have been more careful. I’ll get you a new one tomorrow, with a better safety cover” she said. “C’mon, let’s go have dinner”
I followed her to the dinning.
The next day after mom dropped me at the school gate and zoomed off after to work, I walk into the school building and walk down the hall to homeroom after which, to my locker.. After gr-abbing my notes I walk to clas-s.
The first three periods before break happened to be fun and bully-free and I noticed that Andrew and his crew didn’t even spare me a glance, or should I say a glare.
After the bell went off for lunch break, I walk back to my locker to stock my books in and gr-ab my lunch. I snap it shut and was about heading to the bench outside the school building when I sight Andrew and his crew walking toward me.
I observed them first; Shane had a plaster on hisl-ips side, Billy had one at a sp©t very close to his left eye while Zach had a wound mark on his chin but it was without a plaster.
After the observation, I froze as they approached me, their gaze were ahead but their movements was towards me.
I cringe as they draw closer and once their gazes reached me simultaneously, I notice they swiftly pu-ll aside to a corner and walked past me like I wasn’t even there..
Huh? It flew from my mouth before I knew it..
Or did they truly not see me?
