❤Melvin’s POV❤️
.
The pain gradually transported to my n£¢k, choking me and my palms immediately moved to it.. I couldn’t bring myself to utter a word, it completely held my cords..
My eyelids got we-t with tears and then suddenly, the pain vanished..
My palm slowly left my n£¢k I felt something warm and light run around my back.. I tilt my head and they met with Kayla, she was bent as her palm continued working on my back; soothing me..
Seeing me, her eyes glimmered.
“Are you okay?” She asked, her palm now running slow on my back..
“Y-yes, I’m fine!” I told her and she nodded..
I felt the beef still in my mouth and I swallowed it and surprisingly, it didn’t get stuck at my throat, neither did I feel any unusual pain or difference and- I checked my hand, I’m not a beast!
“You suddenly looked like you were dying back there” she said, taking more wra-pper off the beef.
“Well I was,” I said and she gave me a look. “I mean it’s surprising cos Priola gave me an apple yesterday and after I ate it, I felt.. Well, I can’t really describe it but it was a very strong pain and then I transformed to a beast and craved badly for blood-” I paused when she gave me a raised brow look and I shook my head “I didn’t kill anyone, at least not a human. I found a stray cat but now I think all the pains flew away when you t©uçhed me or- I don’t know but I just didn’t feel it anymore” I expounded.
“Really? That’s probably why Priola said you nee-d my help in your human journey, maybe being together can less£n it” I said and he nodded.
“Yeah, you’re right!” I agreed. She gave the rest of the beef and I drew it to myl-ip, I took a larger bite out of it and chewed slowly, she was still bent over me with her palm resting on my back. Feeling nothing, I chewed more ha-rder, though with a less bitter taste, I swallowed and I was normal..
Wow! I took another bite and before I knew it, I had eaten the whole pack. Kayla smiled at me before moving away..
.
•Kayla’s POV•
.
It was nighttime and yeah Melvin ate almost all of what I brou-ght, tho he complained about some being extremely bitter or tasteless, he ate them anyways and I was glad..
As I relaxed my back and stared at the moon-less sky, I heard a loud sigh and I turned to see Melvin transforming..
I could feel my b©dy shudder as a new feeling enveloped me. My b©dy screamed at me to run but I sat still and watched, probably too amused but who am I kidding, I’m p@rt of all this now.
He looked at me, obviously checking my expression but I quic-kly looked away, taking my gaze to the empty space..
Scared? Well, probably.
Uncomfortable? As hell.
But I just have to bear it, I mean I should’ve gotten used to it alre-ady right.. I pushed the propelling feeling aside.
“Ahh, I’m badly craving for a drink!” I heard his growl like voice.
I gave him a look and my eyes bulged out when they met his new strange look..
Well, in a way we’re both not human.
“Ohh.. I have cola but it’s warm and you-” my voice trailed off when I saw the look his bulby eyes gave me and then it hit me “Oops. You’re talking about blood?” I asked and he nodded his large hairy head.
“Oh well since you can’t have that, why don’t you just take the coke. You know you’re not supposed to-” my voice trailed off quic-kly again when I saw his intent look on me but on a different p@rt of my b©dy.. I traced his gaze and I found blood on my arm, sli-pping out gently from a tiny wound.
“Whoa! How did this get here?” I asked rheotorically, taking my arm and checking it closely.
I must’ve gotten it from a sharp br@nch earlier cos it look a bit dry.. I looked at Melvin and found his gaze fierce on my arm, my brows narrowed.
.
**Melvin’s POV**
.
My gaze stayed at her blood but my mine was preoccu-pied with many thoughts.. Priola’s words flashed into my head and my family life at my very eyes, then my near death. My gr-unts bec@m£ loud, seeing her blood intensified my unsatiable urge.. Her blood used to be so uninviting to me but probably knowing that all of it could cure me, take away this b©dy, this life and bring me back to my family was enough to get me salivated.. As I tried fighting the urge off, taking a large bulb of saliva down my throat, I found my self catapulting toward her and the next minute, I was on t©p of her.. I could see the fear and terror very evident in her eyes and crumpled face.
“Me-melvin?” Her voice was filled with uncertainty.
“W-what’re you..d-doing?” This time I heard the fear.. I shut my eyes and shook my head, trying to get the whole of me to reject her..
The moment I felt a bit of uninterest, I quic-kly sli-pped off her, brushing her ha-rd against her side before running off..
.
~Kayla’s POV~
.
My brows narrowed as Melvin dashed off.. I breathed out and first of all normalized it before sitting up. I sighed again and stood up.. I wonder why he did that..
Was the urge that strong? Geez, he must be going throu-gh so much trying to sooth it. I know how I feel when I don’t get what I crave for but his, it must be stronger.
I began walking, following his trail and it led me to the cave, I found his large b©dy bent over and I could hear his ha-rd breathing.
“Melvin?” I called.
“I want to be alone!” He answered harshly amidst heavy breathes.
“But –
“plea-se Kay. Just leave me alone! It’s late. You should go home, I’ll be fine” he said, raising his thick voice at a time.
I gave him a skeptical look.
“Umm..Okay! Bye” I said before walking out.

CHAPTER 8✏️
.
❤Kayla’s POV❤️
.
I hopped down from the taxi, a bit farther from the school entrance. I paid the cabbie and walked towards the gate and moved in.
I took the stairs to the second floor and moved down the long narrow hall to my locker.
I got the necessary books and journeyed to my clas-s, clutching the rope of my backpack. I got to my seat and sat..
I felt rather unusual as I took my books out, I felt like I was forgetting something and my gaze sli-pped to the unoccu-pied chair next to me and I breathed out with a half smile.
Yeah.. Clara’s abs£nce is what makes it unusual, the usual morning greeting I’d toss at her smiling face..
I brou-ght my focus back to my book and then I thought of Melvin.
Clas-ses began after few minutes and we had English for first period. It was an interesting clas-s as always and as it was drawing to a close, with my head bent on my notebook as I wrote, I heard footsteps, I kept penning down words..
“And you are?” I heard the teacher ask.
“I’m Melvin, I was told this is my clas-s now” he said and my head flew up and I saw him..
“Oh, this wasn’t your clas-s initially, was it?” She asked.
“No ma’am, I was transferred her to repres£nt Clara Hooper” he said.
“Ah. What’s your name again?” She asked taking her register book
“Melvin Lakewood!” He answered and she peered throu-gh her book.
“Found it. And why are you just coming in, it’s almost past time for first period”
“Um..I’m sorry! It was a bit of trouble locating here!” He said.
“Okay.. Go find a seat” she said and he thanked her before walking towards me..
I could see the desperate stares that followed him, well they were probably wishing that he’d take the seat beside them but instead, he walked to mine and sat, s£nding the looks to me and this time with pitchforks. I waved it aside as the English teacher began rounding off her t©pic.
“So we’re seatmates now?” He said quietly to me .
“Obviously Priola’s doing” I said and he nodded in agreement. “And be honest Melvin, why exactly were you late because the last time I checked you clearly knew where this clas-s is. You couldn’t have forgotten that” I said.
“I didn’t. I just thought of I should go human today, I mean coming early to school on a regular isn’t something you see a human do. Since I’m on the human journey, I thought I should do it too” he said and I nodded with a smile..
So thoughtful!
Clas-s went on and as I wrote, Melvin just stared at the board all throu-gh, not taking down even an alphabet in his note.
“Why ain’t not writing?” I asked.
“This is how I write, mere staring at it inputs everything in my head” he said. “It’s how I work”
“But it’s not how human work. We write them down in our notebook and re-ad” I said.
“Oh.. That’s true!” He said before fli-pping throu-gh his note and writing.. I checked and saw that he was writing it word by word. It must be a new and weird writing in a book and how he held the pen? Phew! Let’s not talk about that.

*
During lunch break, Melvin and I went together and yeah, we got stares as we walked out of clas-s, I was on the verge of pu-lling away or walking either ahead or behind him but I didn’t.
Maybe because the fear of being stuck in Lucinda’s grip is stronger than that of attention, even angry ones.
Melvin and I walked side by side to the cafeteria
We got to the cafeteria and I purposely picked our seats at the back, away from more prying eyes and gawky look, we had less or no attention at all there. After we sat, I decided to go buy our meals but Melvin insisted on doing it, saying it’s p@rt of his human journey and I just let him because, he’s right.
After telling him what I nee-ded and giving him some money, he left and returned minutes later with a tray that held our food.
As he dropped it, I saw that he had ordered only few grains of rice and lots of meat.
I took my meal out of the tray and Melvin did same, he pushed the rice off his plate and onto a side of the tray before stabbing a chunk of meat with his fork, I watched it as he stared at it.
He drew it to hisl-ips and then la-id his palm open on the desk, he looked at me and nudged toward his open palm and I un-derstood before laying my palm on his.
He ate the meat and I watched him swallow without any difficulty.. I twitched myl-ips and picked up my spoon, I filled it with food and ate mine.
I glanced at Melvin’s plate and he was alre-ady halfway throu-gh his food, I was about turning to mine when a shadow fell over us.. I looked up to see Jake.
“Hi babe,” he said, giving Melvin a quic-k frown. “I’ve been-
He voice, I guess trailed off when his gaze met Melvin’s and I palms on each other. His gaze went from me to Melvin and then back to me before slowly moving to our palms again.
I quic-kly began sli-pping my palm off Melvin’s but it quic-kly hit me and I sli-pped it back on his, intertwining our f!ngersin the hurried process and igniting the spark anew..
revea-ling a more befuddled Jake at my action.
