“I— What are you doing here?” I asked as I ti-ght£ñed my grip on my towel. Damn, why didn’t I just changed inside the bathroom? It would’ve been less awkward in this situation. My breathing hitched when he started to walk towards me. I wanted to step back away from him but it seems as if my feet were glued on the ground. I bit my lower l!pwhen he stood a few inches from me. I could feel his minty breath fanning my face and his tall nose ba-rely tou-ching mine.
I looked away, not ma-king any eye contact. I couldn’t stand staring at other people’s eyes. It either makes me throw into fits of laughter or feel uncomfortable. And right now, I was definitely feeling the latter one. So, instead, I stared at the wooden floor of my room admiring its rich color. Ooh, it’s so shiny. Why haven’t I noticed that before?
“Look at me,” he said, no, he commanded. I bit my lowerl-ip, shaking my head. I won’t. I can’t. I’m scared of what he’ll do to me. He might try to kill me again and it was feasible to happen thinking that he once tried to. I’m scared of him.
“Sapphire, look at me,” he commanded once again but I just kept on shaking my head, no. I’m terrified of him. I could still feel the pain (he caused) around my n£¢k and the thought alone of him hurting me again breaks my heart. I’ve never been this scared of someone in my entire life. Let alone of my own mate. Moon Goddess, why did it have to be him? He’s a murderer. A heartless man.
I didn’t realize I was crying until he wiped my tears away but I sl@pped his hands away from me. He didn’t budge but I saw a hint of pain in his eyes when I did that. I was shaking and the scenes of him strangling me flashed before my eyes made me cry even more.
“Sapphire,” he called in a calm voice but I continuously shook my head, not wanting to hear his voice. My hands were trembling and my knees were starting to get weak. He tried to hold me but I pushed him away.
“Don’t, plea-se. I’ll move away from this land and away from you and you won’t have to see me ever again just plea-se, don’t hurt me,” I was having a ha-rd time talking but I managed to. Yes, I pleaded him. I don’t even care if it’s going to deflate my ego. This was too much. All I did was cry when I arrived here and it was all because of him.
My perception of having mates was completely different from the reality of having one. Who am I kidding, anyways? I was a f ucking hopeless ro-mantic. I should’ve woken up sooner about the reality that happy endings doesn’t exist and someone will love you for eternity. There’s no forever. We’ll all die in the end, after all.
“Sapphire, I’m—” before he could say anything, I cut him off.
“GO ON! Reject me, Adrian! Let me—” before I could finish my s£ntence, he gr@bb£d my face and crushed hisl-ips on mine. I tried pushing him off of me but he was stronger, not to mention, an Alpha. He was k!ss!ngme r0ûghly and I wasn’t less plea-sed of what he’s doing. What he’s doing is hurting me even more. I was still crying and here he was, k!ss!ngme torridly. So, I did what I should’ve done in the first place.
I sl@pped him.
This made him st©p. I was g@sping for air when hisl-ips left mine. He looked at me, holding his right cheek where I sl@pped him. He didn’t say a word but his eyes displa-yed a mix of hurt, sadness and anger. I mentally scoffed. He’s angry now? For what, for me sl@pping him? He deserves more than just that!
“Get out, Adrian,” I sighed. He’s too complicated. One moment he’s strangling me and the next thing, he’s k!ss!ngme? I couldn’t re-ad him even though he was my mate. He was mysterious and too ha-rd to un-derstand. And I have no plans to settle a life with someone buried in secrets and mysteries.

“I’m the Alpha of this pack, you don’t have the right to shout at me, sl@p me and demand me to get out,” he snapped, scowling at me. I scoffed at his statement. The nerve of this guy talking about rights!
“Well, I am your mate and you don’t have the right to kill me nor hurt me. My parents did not raise me so you could just hurt me. You don’t have the right to even if I’m your mate,” I snapped back, anger dripping in my voice. “Now, get out!” I shouted, pointing at the door.
My towel was getting loose but I couldn’t care more. All I want is for Adrian to get the f uck out. I am done with him. He’s a j£rk! And not to mention, a bipolar of an Alpha! I’m trying to un-derstand him but no, he’s too damn complicated. There’s some people who can last a lifetime un-derstanding other people’s attitudes and I was one of them, well he’s an exception. He drives me bloody mad!
“Sapphire,” he called in a soothing voice. I looked at him and his face was calm and guilt was evident on it. No, Sapphire. He’s just trying to get to you. He doesn’t have a heart. He’s a monster. Don’t get carried away by his words and actions. All he’s good at is luring people and in the end, hurt them.
“plea-se,” I whispered. I saw how his jaw ti-ght£ñed before scurrying out of my room. I let out a sigh of relief as soon as I heard the door close. I could hear the thumping of my heart and a few beads of sweat fell from my forehead down to my eyebrow and went in my eye, causing it to sting. Damn it. Even after he went out, I couldn’t help but to feel anxious.
“Who are you, really, Adrian?” I mumbled to myself.
“Luna, are you there? It’s Alice,” I heard a knock from the door, snapping me out of my reverie. I quic-kly ran towards my closet, pu-lling out the first clothing my eyes la-id upon.
“Yup. Give me a sec,” I hurriedly sl!pon my un-dergarments and wore the denim overalls I picked up. I ran my f!ngersthrou-gh my almost dry hair trying to make it look somehow pres£ntable. I pat on some loose powder and dab on my peach l!pgloss before opening the door. Alice’s warm smile immediately greeted me and I tried my best to sport on a smile back as I struggled to level my breathing. I know, werewolves are supposed to be fast, considering that we are not normal but obviously, I lacked in the physical fitness p@rt. I am a couch potato, won’t deny that.
“Good afternoon, Luna,” she gave me a short curtsy before coming inside.
“Oh, Alice. You didn’t have to do that. We’re practically same age. The same species. And live on the same planet which is called, the earth,” I tried to crack a joke ma-king sure she won’t know that I have been crying. With only my towel on, I might add.
“Yes, yes and yes. But, we have different ranks,” she win-ked before sitting on the same stool she sat on when we first met. I huffed before sitting down on the edge of my be-d, facing her.
“But still, I insist for you not to do that again and plea-se, call me by my first name,” I said as I placed a few stray strands of my hair behind my ear. I seriously nee-d a haircut and a new hair color. And looking at Alice’s hair style, I might consider going for short.
“Fine. If that’s what you want, Sapphire. Anyways, you look…exhausted. Are you feeling alright?” she asked, worry evident on her tone as she placed the back of her palms on my forehead. I quic-kly swatted her hand away.
“NO! I mean, yes. Yes, I meant to say… Yes,” I cracked an awkward smile and she looked at me as if I’ve grown two heads before covering her mouth in astonishment.
“Oh my gosh! I am so sorry. That was ins-en-sitive of me to ask if you were fine. Of course, you aren’t fine. Alpha must’ve worn you out—” I cut her off before she could even finish her s£ntence.
“Wait, hold up for a second. How did Adrian got involved here, I may ask?” confusion was flooding over me. What does she mean about ‘worn out’?
“Well, I saw Alpha c@m£ out from your room just a few moments ago and he looked tired as well. And seeing you exhausted, I alre-ady knew what happened. Though I could s-en-se anger from him. Tell me, did you not agree for a round two?” she let out a slight giggle and slightly leaned forward, anticipating. I did not expect this at all. But, what did she just say? Did she honestly think that me and that bastard had S-x?!
“NO! I mean no, nothing happened not ‘ no’ like I didn’t agree for a round two. Whatever. But, the point here is, we did not have S-x just to clear up your mind. We just talked, okay? Besides, we just met, I’m not one of those girls who gives up their v-cards to some guy they just met for ba-rely a week,” I scoffed, crossing my arms over my che-st.
Not like am against those who do, cause a guy you pas-sed your v-card the first day you met could end up loving you till the end and that one you waited three years may end up jinxing you. That’s life, so what’s the beef?
“I see. But, Alpha isn’t just ‘some guy’ is he? And hey, there’s nothing wrong with swiping your v-card to him— he’s your mate. I see no law violated there,” she laughed. I sport on a faint smile on her remark.
If only you knew, Alice. You would take back everything you just said. We’re not the usual mates you picture. He craves for power. I nee-d love. And love isn’t something he can give to me. I doubt he even know what it means. They say, ‘never judge a book by its cover’ but with all the moments I’ve shared with Adrian, there’s no denying that he is indeed a monster they call.
He strangled me. Almost killed me. Told me I wasn’t his mate. Made me feel worthless and stupid. I think that just shows who he truly is. I know, I ba-rely know him. I don’t know who he really is and who he was. All I know that he’s a dangerous man and he’s someone I don’t want to spend the rest of my life with.
I nee-d to talk to Rachel soon to ask for some advice.
My eyes instantly went wi-de with the thought of my best friend. Oh my gosh! Rachel, she’s still here! How could I forget about her and my fellow pack mates? How stupid of me! I directly ran towards the front door when I felt a hand on my arm, st©pping me from my tracks.
“Let go, Alice!” I yelled, trying to yank her hands off of me.
“What’s wrong? Did I say something bad?” she asked, confusion laced in her voice. I shook my head. Alice has helped me enough, I think I can handle this on my own. Besides, I highly doubt she’ll help me with this one. She’s after all, a member of this pack.
“Everything’s fine, Alice. Just plea-se, let go of me so I can go…” Damn it. I have to do this so she’ll believe me. Oh, Moon Goddess. I’m really sorry for lying to you about this, Alice. “…talk to Adrian and settle things with him. Since, you know, I kind of pissed him off a bit earlier,” I trailed off.
“Oh, so you mean you’re going to ask him to have S-x with you? Is that it?” she asked, excitement in her voice. I mentally face-palmed myself. Remind me not to converse with Alice that has something to do with S-x, again.
“No. I have to go now , Alice. You know how your Alpha could get a little impatient at times,” I said emphasizing on the word, ‘now’. She let go of me and I scurried towards the ground floor. Earlier on my way outside with Josh, I caught sight of a room on the left side of the living area with a wooden plaque on the door saying ‘Office’ and I as-sumed it was Adrian’s.
I ignored the stares and whispers from the other pack members as I made my way to the stairs. Suddenly, I could once again hear the ra-pid beating of my heart and my palms were starting to get sweaty. Damn it. Why do I always feel nervous whenever Adrian’s around?
I straightened my clothes and put my hair in place before knocking on the door. No response. I tucked my hair behind my ear to have hear clearly but I heard none. His office must’ve been soundproof. I placed my hand on the doorknob and to my surprise, it was unlocked.
Well, I knocked and no one answered. It isn’t my fault now if I go barging in. I did gave him a short notice about my incoming. I twist the knob open and my eyes went wi-de with the view in front of me. I could feel my heart ache and tears threatening to fall.
I wish I didn’t come here in the first place, at all.
