✔”How do I look? ” I asked turning around in my flare mini go-wn.
“Perfect.” Lydia said on the dinning and climb down to meet them.
“I’ve parked your lunch. ” Mom said not giving me a glance. I sat down close to Lydia.
“You shouldn’t have bothered Mom. I’m sure they have cafeteria in the company and I think I still have some money on me. ” I said to her pouring the tea from the jug to my mug.
“Mommy, can I skip school today? ”
“And why do you want to skip school? ” I asked her doing the same thing Mom did to me not sparing her a glance.
“Because I want to follow you to your work place. I didn’t even get to see you last night. ” She complained. I feel guilty alre-ady.
“On one condition, you won’t disturb me and you’re staying till 12 noon. ” I said and she nod her head smiling then stood up and ran to her room to get her bag so I used that opportunity to talk to Mom.
“I’m sorry Mom plea-se. ” I said looking at her and she st©pped what she was doing exhale and tears began rolling down her cheeks.
“I can’t do this on my own Katrina. I can’t. “She said wiping her tears and stood up from my seat and walk to her.
“I’ll help you. I promise to be around next time. ” I said and hvg her.
“Mommy Mommy can we go now! ” I laughed and turn to her.
“You really are excited to come to my work place? Why don’t you just stay with grandma instead huh? ” I said and she frowns.
“I don’t even want you around me any more. Go with your mommy, I just pray she doesn’t starve you. ” Mom said and the three of us laughed.
“Did you pray for grandpa last night? ” I asked Lydia when we’re outside waiting for the available cab.
“Yes Mommy. I prayed for him and ask him to help me find my dad. ” She said and I was shocked when she mentioned that. She was not suppose to talk about him. We had an agreement.
“You’re looking for your father? ” I asked first to know where to begin from.
“No. He’ll come looking for me. ” She said and before I could say another word, a can st©pped in front of us and we got in just after I told the cab man where we’re headed.
“Hy kid. ” I heard the cab man said concentrating on the road. I turn my n£¢k to Lydia who pretended as if she wasn’t the one he was talking to.
“What’s your name kid? ” He ask her again.
“My mommy said I shouldn’t talk to strangers. ” Lydia said as I smiled to that. It only means she’s been obe-dient.

“I’m begging you to plea-se behave yourself. This is my first day and I won’t want you go ruin it for me. ” I said to her as we’re walking into the company.
“I promise you mommy I’ll be a good girl. ” She said and I place my hand on her head smiling.
✔When we got into the company I met with the receptionist introducing myself to her.
“Katherine Smoake? ” I heard a female voice and I turn to the direction to see that same face I’ve been seeing since I started coming here.
“Hi again. ” I greeted her when she got closer to us.
“Hi little one. ” She said waving at Lydia who replied with a smile then she faced me.
“Kids are not allowed in here and besides its your first day. ” She said and I didn’t know what to say. I owe Lydia so much to decline her offer to come to work with me.
“Don’t worry Ma’am I’m a good kid and I promised my mommy that I won’t disturb her work. ” Lydia said causing me to smile. Thank you God for compensating me with this wonderful kid.
“Oh wow you have a daughter? Okay allow me to take you to where you’ll be working. ” She said and I followed right behind her holding Lydia’s hand cause she might ran off.
“I can walk without you having to hold my hand mommy. ” She said loud enough for me alone to hear.
“I don’t trust you when you say that. ” I said as I ti-ght£ñ my grib on her.
“Here is the marketing dep@rtment and all you’ll have to do is to market our products. You’ll be given your office and will be paid 30% of your salary for s start. Based on your certificate you’re not suppose to be on the street like the rest marketers so you’ll also be among the decision makers. “She said and I nod my head.
” Let’s head to the office then. “Lydia and I ti-ght£ñ my grib on her ma-king her to flin-ch.
” Erm… Ms…..? “I didn’t know what to call her and funny enough she’s not wearing any tag for identification.
” Marine. Just call me Marine. I’m the CEO secretary. “She said and I nod my head.
” Okay Marine. Firstly I would like to apologize on my daughter’s forwardness and also I nee-d to know how things go on here. Do you have a book for that? “I asked and she chuckle. What’s funny.
” First thing first let’s go to your office. “She said and I and Lydia followed her to my suppose office.

” Okay just don’t go entering people’s office. I don’t want every b©dy knowing I brou-ght a daughter to a work place on my first day. “I said without thinking of the trouble she might put me.

✔Oh God I forgot to lock my office.
Silly mistakes I always do every time I’m leaving the office.
I turn back walking towards my office and when I got there, I met the door opened to my amazement and I can swear that I close it and then I remembered the new marketing Staff, she’s the one I wanted to see to confirm if she’s really Katrina Smoake.
I got inside to behold a little girl looking round the office.
Where did she come from?
She turned to my direction and froze in seeing me.
“Hi. How did you get in here? ” I asked her smiling.
“I found the door unlocked sir. I didn’t take anything I promise. ” She said and I smile. I didn’t even think about that.
“It’s okay. It’s fine. I just haven’t seen your face around. ” I said.
“My name is Lydia. I’m Katherine’s daughter. ”
God, this little girl is way too smart.
Wait, she said she’s Katherine’s daughter?
Katherine has a daughter?
A five year old kid?
Does it mean she’s married?
“No.” She said.
“What? ”
“No she’s not married. I live with her and grandma. ” She said as if she re-ad my mind. I smile and led her to the cushion.
“Stay right here okay. ” I told her and went into my resting room. Yea, I do have a resting room in my office and I was about coming out I heard a voice.
“I told you not to get into people’s office! ”

Okay now this isn’t funny anymore, where did Lydia ran to? I hope this girl hasn’t gotten herself into any kind of trouble?
I abandoned what I was doing and step out of the office looking for her. I kept looking around me for a view of her but she was no where near my sight.
“Hi. plea-se did you happen to see a small girl with a very long dark hair? She’s this tall. ” I said describing her to one of the worker here who seems puzzled. He musnt has seen her.
“Thank you. ” I said and he walks away.
I scratch my hair and push it back. Lydia is getting me worried. Where did she ran to now?
This is my first day here and I’m alre-ady walking around like a mad woman barging into people’s office until I met another worker who told Lydia was in the CEO’s office after I describe-d her to him
And when I got there, I saw her sitter majestically like she owns the place. What brou-ght her here in the first place? This girl sure wants to put me in trouble.
“I told you not to get into people’s office! ” I yelled at her then gr-ab her by the arm.
“It was I who asked her to stay. “A familiar voice coming out from a strange person. He’s holding a bottle of water and two glas-s cu-p.
” I am very sorry sir. This sure won’t repeat itself again. “I said and made to drag Lydia out but his voice st©pped me from moving out of the door.

” plea-se don’t be ha-rd on her. It was all my fault. “I saw Lydia win-ked at me and it gave me the as-surance that her mother won’t hurt or yell at her. Just the little time I got to spend with her made me to get so attached to her and I can swear that Katrina had added weight. If I’m not mistaken she shouldn’t be older than 23 cause she was 18 when we left High School and if Lydia is really her daughter then that means she must be married.
I’m not surprised, that’s how religious home behaves. Instead of having a child that sleeps around, it’s better she’s married no matter the age but if you ask me I think Katrina is too young to be married.
Just saying though, I know it’s none of my business but that girl was central of attra-ction back in school and she was also my favourite girl maybe she still is and that’s why I don’t want her to be married.
My phone start buzzing in my trou-ser front pocket. I de-ep my hand in my pocket and brou-ght it out to check the caller ID and it was my mom calling.
I hissed and put the phone back into my pocket. I don’t want to talk to her yet.

“Start packing your things you’re going home. ” I said to her getting really offended with what she did.
“Mommy I’m sorry. ” She apologized putting her books back into her bag.
“I am so going to deal with you once we get home. Why don’t you listen to me huh? Why are you so stubborn? I specifically told you not to get too close with strangers. For Pete’s sake Lydia today is my first day! ” I yelled at her. She should be crying by now. This girl is just something.
“But Mommy he doesn’t feel like a stranger. I only told him you’re my mommy and that’s it. ” She said but I ignored her and dialed mom’s number and she picked at once like she has been waiting for my call.
📱It’s time for Lydia to come home. Can you come pick her plea-se.
I said into the phone.
📱Sure. I’m about to leave home to church so just SMS me the address of your work place and I’ll drive there now.
📱Thanks mom.
I ended the call and sits on my chair before exhaling.
“He was a nice man mommy. ” She said again.
“Go to that sofa and sleep. ” I instruct her but she didn’t even move an inch from where she was sitting. She’s sitting on the roller chair in front of me. This girl with nerve.
“What? Are you disobeying me now? ” I said and she sloughishly walks to the sofa and wra-p herself on it.
I use my palm to scratch my face and then exhale.
God, how I’m I going to face my boss now?

Mom did come and take Lydia away and despite her count less pleading I still stood on my ground of dealing with her once I get home. That stupid habits of hers, she’ll have to st©p it.
“Can I come in? ”
I raise my head to see my boss by the door. I stood up immediately and adjust my go-wn.
“plea-se sir. ” I said and he walks in then I offer him a seat but he declined anyway.
“So, you finally s£nt her home? ”
“I’m sorry sir it won’t happen again. I know I’ve violated the rules but I’m really sorry for doing that. ” I apologize sincerely.
“It’s all fine. I actually enjoyed her company anyway. Such a smart kid. She did tell me you’re her mother. ” He said. Lydia, really?
I chuckled!
“It’s funny that I can have a child at this age of mine. I’m her mother. ” I said and he smiled too.
“But I can’t seem to see a ring. Divorced? ” He ask me and I laughed again.
“It’s a long story. ” I said not feeling comfortable with such kind of questions coming from him.
“Welcome to hvghkins. ” He said and shoke my hands.
“Thank you sir. ” I said and he left my office and the second he did I let out a sigh.

I c@m£ to her office to tell her about me but I just couldn’t do it.
It appears that she didn’t remember me at all but how I’m I going to begin the conversation?
“Hi Katrina it’s me Jayson the guy that has been picking on you back in high school that also was secretly in love with you and it was I who R@p£d you that night.”
Lord, I hope she won’t end up hating me.
