Andres finished cooking and set the table just in time before Miranda woke up. He had asked Taylor to take the day off so it would be just him and his wife.
Miranda had a ha-rd time slee-ping last night after breaking down during her narration. She couldn’t continue, couldn’t go on with the whole story and Andres didn’t f0rç£ her.
She had spent the whole night weeping for her first, lost love.
The memories were too ha-rd on her and Andres un-derstood why she hated talking about it.
“Good morning”
Andres turned to see Miranda, arms crossed over her che-st as she leaned against the door frame.
“how are you feeling now?”
“good” she pushed off the frame and eased toward Andres in that easy way she moved, but he still figured she did it now so she wouldn’t catch on to the fact she was still dizzy.
“you should’ve remained in be-d if you still aren’t strong”
“I’m good” she as-sured and strolled throu-gh the door
“I can bring up breakfast for you then…”
“I’m okay.. You don’t have to worry”
Andres sighed resignedly and pu-ll-ed out a chair for her at the table set with a full English fry-up of eggs, bacon, sausages, fried bre-ad and mushrooms.
“Thank you” she muttered and sat down
Andres nodded and took his side of the table.
“Eat a lot” he said
Miranda f0rç£d a smile and picked up a scone and a small pot of lemon curd.
“you’re worrying too much about me” she slathered lemon curd on a corner of her scone.
“I’ve always worried about you”
Miranda searched his eyes in silence and looked away “a lot of things has happened alre-ady…”
“and you’re still not sure you can love me?” Andres cut in
Cradling a China teacu-p in her hands, she eyed him over the rim “I wasn’t done with the story”
“it wouldn’t be nice if we talked about it over breakfast. Eat a good portion and when we’re done, we can talk about it”
“I can control myself” she set her cu-p back on the saucer carefully and reached for her scone “there are more you nee-d to know”
Andres knew she had not control of herself when it comes to Erad. She had almost cried herself to death and he was scared she wouldn’t eat if they talked about it.
But Miranda was stubborn and she would never listen.
“so what did you see?” he asked
“when I woke up, I was on my be-d. Taylor was beside me and everything looked new. She told me I had been slee-ping for six months and asked me if I remembered anything.
I thought the question was stupid cause I did recognize her and my parents when they c@m£ in. My room looked different. Every painting and books that had something to do with Erad was re-moved. Including pictures of my supposed Prince charming.
I didn’t remember any memory of Erad and no one mentioned why I went into coma.
The memories started coming back and in few months time I remembered Erad, but nothing of what I saw in the television.
I asked Taylor about him and she told me that my dad…” Miranda broke down in tears
Andres reached her side and pu-ll-ed her into his arms “it’s alright, don’t talk about it”
Miranda shook her head and went on “dad castrated him like an animal and he didn’t survive it. He died there on the sp©t and that day when I pas-sed out, dad called in a doctor who managed to tamper with my memories so I wouldn’t remember Erad. But when I finally did, I had some trouble with depression and anxiety and several panic attack.
All my mom said was ‘you belong to Prince Andres, no one else can own you’
It was all Prince Andres, no one cared about my own feelings. I lost because of Prince Andres. Erad failed his parents and it was all because my parents felt like you owned me. I vowed never to love you or make you happy. I wanted to bring you the same pain and suffering I went throu-gh. I wanted to kill you in the same manner my Erad was killed…” Miranda choked on her tears and coughed
“I’m sorry” Andres wiped her tears but they kept rolling down uncontrollable
“When I couldn’t take it any more, I decided to take my own life and be with Erad. I was caught severally and my father threatened to throw me out on the street. I did it more often so he could carry out with his threat but he didn’t.
One day, I discovered there was a secret and serene alley behind the palace that led to the outside world. I waited until night and left the palace. That night I got attacked by a gang of drun!kmen but managed to get away. I kept running and crying until I got exhausted. I had no where to go then I sat on the road.
Lucy was going to the club when she saw me. She took me to her house and I stayed there until morning then she brou-ght me back to the palace and I sneaked in. The next night, I left the palace again to meet her and told her everything. I begged her to take me away and she took me to the club. I kept sneaking out and going to the club until I joined the dancers.
It helped me forget about Erad whenever I was on stage and gave me the feelings that I didn’t belong to anyone.
I was a woman of my own.
But I was never okay. I never forgot him. For four years, I never forgot his screams and the love we shared”
Andres stro-ked her hair and said nothing. It wasn’t easy to hang on to someone you don’t know. He would’ve ended up heart broken like her if his first girlfriend hadn’t cheated on him and he gave up on women. He didn’t want her either. Not until he found out she was Sardonyx and everything got interesting.
“And you res£nted me from the club cause my name is Andres even when you had no idea I was the same person”
She nodded
“I’m sorry you had to go throu-gh all those.. Bad things” he slowly cu-mpped her face in his palms “I know I can’t erase the memories but I promise I won’t let you go throu-gh pain and if you ever have to go throu-gh pain, I will never let you face them alone”
Miranda shut her eyes and Andres wiped the tears on her cheeks.
“let’s go for a walk” he suggested “you nee-d to get out of here for a little while”
“I’d rather remain indoors”
“you nee-d to go out”
“maybe not today”
“I can call Taylor if you don’t want to go out with me”
“No.. It’s not you” Miranda said “you don’t have to worry about me”
“you always make me worry Miranda”
“I’m sorry”
“it’s okay.. Just make sure you’re okay”
She nodded
Andres got up and started clearing the table.
“Andres?!” she prompted when he got to the kitchen door and he paused “I just want to say thank you”
“For what?”
“for everything…” she breathed out slowly “For being patient and keeping up with me and mostly for un-derstanding me.. I’ll forever remain grateful”
“Grateful?” Andres walked back to the table and placed the plates back on the table “everything you’ve been doing, have they being out of gratitude?”
“I’m not one to be grateful Andres…” she placed her palm on his hand “what I gave out last night had nothing to do with gratitude”
“Then what?”
It was a dare and Miranda knew it. He was daring her to tell him how she felt about them. Silence reigned for a short while until Miranda sighed.
“Never mind I said anything” she got up to leave
Andres gr@bb£d her hand “say it Miranda.. I want to know”
“Andres?!”
“What was it?”
“I don’t know”
Andres pu-ll-ed her closer “You know Miranda you aren’t pla-ying fair”
Miranda chuckled “I’ve never being a fair pla-yer”
“and you still haven’t learnt from not pla-ying fair”
Miranda rolled her eyes “I was just being grateful.. That’s all I feel”
“let me show you what you feel” he claimed herl-ips in a h0t, pas-sionate k!ss. Miranda was thrown off guard and gave in to his every t©uçh as she responded in the same pas-sion and hunger for each other.
“This isn’t you being grateful” he murmured against her mouth
“yea” Miranda agreed “it’s actually me betraying myself”
“it’s over now Miranda. You didn’t kill anyone and it’s been four years alre-ady, anyone could’ve died, you should st©p feeling guilty”
“I know I should but Andres…” Miranda cut herself and looked at him “I’ve always had feelings for you, a lot of feelings, both hatred, anger, disdain, scorn, and right now, I don’t know which one is in control”
“trust me it’s none of what you mentioned. You’re just afraid to give it a second chance”
“maybe you’re right” she sighed and looked over his shoulder “let me do the dishes”
“not today” Andres protested “don’t worry, you’ve got many years to do the dishes”
Miranda chuckled “let me start today”
“alright” Andres gave in “you’ll wash the dishes then come wash me too in the bathroom”
Miranda laughed “you’re kidding right”
“definitely not so hurry up” he started for the be-droom “don’t keep me waiting honey.. I’ve got plans for the both of us today” he win-ked and disappeared into the be-droom.
