“Your majesty,Your friend Mr Baxter is here to see you” The guard announced the arrival of Dora father
“Let him in”I said and soon Baxter himself walked in
“Have a seat,It’s been a while since you showed face in the palace”I said pointing to the empty seat
“I didn’t want to because of what’s going on with my daughter but I have to,Even if it’s to say hello”He said
“Its sad to know that Dora can’t have kids but you know the law and it’s a must that Brian have an heir,An heir who will take over when it’s time for him to step down”I said
“I know and I un-derstand that that is the reason you have agreed to bring in that Lady Alicia Ray”Baxter asked
“Yes,Am glad that you at least have accepted but as for your wife”
“I will deal with her,She is just angry for her daughter,Am sure that when she sees reason for herself,She will also un-derstand”Baxter replied
“I hope so”I said
Just then the maid who had been clearing the storage room walked out carrying a old box
“Your majesty I found this in the storage room,Since it might be some thing of value to you ,I didn’t want to throw it away”The lady said
“Its okay,I will go throu-gh it and once am throu-gh,I will call for you”
“Yes your majesty”The maid said and then she bowed and left the room.
I opened the box and began to go throu-gh the things that were in it
Only for me to st©p when I saw a familiar picture amongst the things
“What’s wrong?”Baxter asked
“This”I replied showing him the picture
“Its a picture of your Step brother Gilbert and his wife Sharon”Baxter replied
“I know right, When they died years ago,I had made sure to throw away every thing that belonged to them but how can this still remain?”I asked as I stared at it
“Maybe it’s some sort of sign”Baxter replied
“Don’t start now”I replied throwing the picture back into the box
“Some one once told me that the truth can’t be hidden forever”Baxter said
“Tell that to some one else,We have been keeping this secret for years now and no one has found out and no one will”I said
“I hope so but I do wonder about that little boy Ivan,Yes his name was Ivan,Wasn’t he Sharon brother,She had brou-ght him from that little town of hers, Have always wondered what happened to him “He said
“He might be dead”
“Don’t tell me you had him killed like you did with Sharon and Gilbert?”Baxter asked
“Lower your voice! I didn’t kill Ivan or any one else, Only God knows where that boy landed and if he is dead then that is just good,It will be best if it stayed that way, And plea-se st©p talking about the past alre-ady,It’s the past,Let’s just leave it that way”I said
“Fine then,I only hope that this past doesn’t catch up to us”Baxter replied and i sighed
I also hope for the same thing cause have been feeling uneasy this past few days,I hope that it’s nothing,I really hope so.
EMMA POV
“So what you are trying to tell me is that This lady called Sharon and this man called Gilbert were once the King and Queen and if They hadn’t died then Brian father would never have become the king”I asked starring at Grace
“You’ve got that right your Highness”She replied giving me a smile
“But how did they die,Tell me,I want to know more about them,I mean have been the queen for a while now and I never knew of their existence,If you hadn’t told me about them,I would never have known”
“That’s because we were ban from talking about it, The workers who have worked here for long knows about them “Grace replied
“But why so much secrecy,? Brian have never mentioned them before”I said
“That’s because his majesty was a kid when all of it happened,He would have forgotten them”
“You are right,So tell me more! You found out a lot by gossiping around,Now tell me what you found out”I asked
“Fine then,I heard that their death was tragic,They died in a car accident,Along with their little daughter”Grace said
“My God! It must have been so painful,I don’t know what I would have done if it were to happen to me”I said
“But it didn’t right! But it’s a good thing for you right! If they hadn’t died your husband wouldn’t have become the king and you wouldn’t have beecome the queen”Grace said
“Don’t say that! You can’t be happy that some one else died leaving you his or her sp©t,It must have really been tragic for the great king then”
“From what I heard,The great king was thri-lled about his brother death”Grace said
“What?”
“They had been fighting for the throne but the great king brother who is Gilbert was given the throne and he had the most beautiful wife ever and the great king was jealous,I wouldn’t be surprised if he had had them killed”She said
“Don’t say that grace, He wouldn’t have done that,st©p imagining things and go back to work”I said
“But wont you hear the rest of the story your Highness?”
“No I don’t want to listen any more,Now go back to your room,I nee-d to rest “I said and she got up from the chair, Gave me a bow and then left quietly
I sat on the be-d thinking about what she just told me
Never have Brian told me about the story of his father brother,Did he intentionally not tell me or did he just forget about them like Grace said
I better st©p thinking about this and just rest for a while,I thought as I layed on the be-d
Just then the door opened and I knew who it was even with out turning to see
I closed my eyes,pretending to be asleep.
“Are you slee-ping or you are just pretending to be ?”Brian asked but I didn’t answer
I felt the be-d give way and I knew that he was laying on it
Still pretending,I felt him moving close to me and then he held me close
I couldn’t do a thing because I was suppose to be asleep
He pushed my hair away and placed his face on my cheek
“Since you are asleep,I can be close to you for a while”He whispered gently
“Am sorry I hurt you,Am sorry for not trusting you,Sorry for lashing out at you,Sorry for not being there for you,Am sorry for every thing and if it will take me years to say sorry to you,I will”
“What happen with Alicia was not to get back at you,I had been so jealous and furious and I went to drink a bit,It was just a bit that I intended to drink but I drank so much that I got drun!kand the last thing I remember was slee-ping in the wine cellar ,I don’t remember slee-ping with Alicia,I don’t even know how I got there, If only you will just believe me”
“Oh I don’t deserve that,I didn’t believe you,So why should you believe me”He said
I couldn’t pretend that I was slee-ping because I was listening to what he was saying
“Fine don’t believe me but always believe me when I say this,I love you and no matter what,That will never change”He added and k!$$£d my cheek before leaving the be-d and the room
It took a while for the tears to come and when it did,I cried like never before.

“Wow Sharon,This place is so big”Ivan said as he looked around the palace
“I knew you will like it here,Common let’s go back in,My husband will be waiting”Sharon said as she held his hand
“Tell me is your husband treating you well,Does he takes care of you?”he asked
“Of course he does,Gilbert loves me and we have been married for three months now,Soon we will be crowned the future king and queen”
“Wow,So I get to be there too?”
“Of course,You get to be there,After all you and father are the only family I have”She replied
“I really love you Sharon”Ivan said hvgging her close
“And I too”She replied
Together they walked back into the palace and was about to go to Ivan room when they heard a noise coming from the study
“Stay here while I go and see what happen”Sharon said as she went to the study room
Little Ivan couldn’t st©p being worried so he quietly followed Sharon
The door to the study room was open and there was Gibert and his step brother Mark who little Ivan had been introduced to earlier
“I won’t let you have the throne Gilbert!”mark warned
“You know that the throne rightfully belongs to me and no one else”Gilbert replied
“Lies,I might not be father real son but have been in this family for years,Am the eldest and it’s only right that I take the throne”
“That would have been possible only if you were his real son but you are not and so I will be the one take the throne”Gibert said
“We shall see Then”He said as he left the study
If only we had known what that threat meant,We might have foreseen what he had in mind and perhaps we might have st©pped him.

WILLIAM POV
FLASH BACK (CONT)
(Five years after the fight in the study)
“Helen,Ivan leave the garden and come in,It’s enough pl@yfor now”Sharon called the both of us and taking Helen little hand,I ran in with her
“The maids will take Helen to her room and as for you Ivan,We have to talk”Sharon said pu-lling me into the living room
Its been five years,Five years since Sharon married the king
Its been a good marriage and Helen is the proof of their love
Ever since she was born we have all loved her and though am just a fifteen year old boy ,I know that am willing to l@ymy life down for her
“What’s the important thing you have to tell me?”I asked her
“Recently we have been receiving threats from the an unknown source “She said
“What do you mean by that? ” I asked
“Some one has been threatning us, They wants us dead”
“But why? Who is it ”
“We don’t know Ivan and that’s the main reason have brou-ght you here”She said
“No matter what happens to me and His Majesty,You must protect Helen”She said
“Now am getting very scared, Is the threat very serious?”I asked
“It is Ivan and to t©p it all his majesty wants to accept his brother back”She said worriedly
“What do you mean by accept his brother back,I thought he left here five years ago saying that he will never return” I asked
“That was what I thought too but he called last week saying he wants to come back and Gilbert has no choice than to let him come”she said
“His majesty shouldn’t do that,What about the threat he made that day,I might have been little then but I still remember what he said and i know that he meant it”I said
“I know too and that’s why have asked that you watch over helen for me,No matter what take good care of her”She said
“I don’t like this,Is this some kind of fare well?”I asked sadly
“It isn’t Ivan,Come here”She said pu-lling me to sit
“Its not a fare well,I just want you to be on alert, As soon as those people arrive be on alert” She said
And that was what I did when they showed up a week later,He along with his wife and also their seven year old son named Brian
While every one tried to tolerate each other,I kept watch on little Helen and Brian, Though Helen tried to get close to him,He kept on pushing her away
And that was how it went for a week until every thing began to turn around
It was a normal day like all day,While Sharon and Gilbert and Helen got re-ady to go out,I did my early morning walk and that was when I over heard the conversation Gilbert step brother Mark was having with his friend who was known to be A Mr baxter
“Have the br@kes been cut” Mark asked
“Done as you requested but am scared,What if it doesn’t work”Baxter asked
“It will,It has to, Have been preparing myself for this day,Gilbert and his family will die in that car today”He said
Still reeling from the shock I didn’t know that they had sp©tted me there and before I could run or to do a thing,Their guards gr@bb£d me
“So your stupid sister has s£nt you here to spy right?”He asked starring at me
“What did they do to you? Why do you want them killed,They are your family”I said trying to pu-ll myself free
“Family! Family my foot,If they are not out of the way, Then I won’t be able to get what I want”He said
“And that’s the throne right? You want the throne?”I asked shaking with anger
“Yes,I should have been given that throne but my stupid step parents gave it to their son,Gilbert is a weakling he will never be able to rule like I will and that’s why he has to die”He said
“plea-se don’t harm them”I begged
“Its way too late now,Put him some where and lock him up until I say other wise”He said and they took me to a room and locked me there.
The palace is a very big place and if you aren’t close to where some one is at a p@rticular time,You won’t hear them.
That was what happened,No matter how ha-rd I screamed and called out for Sharon and Gilbert no one heard me
I went to the window,wanting to find a way to get out and I saw them,Gilbert,Sharon and Helen getting into the car.
Those car br@kes had been cut and they will die,Just knowing it and being unable to help made me so frustrated.
As soon as the car drove off, Some thing c@m£ into my mind.
Taking a ha-rd brick which la-id on the floor,I hit the glas-s and it broke, Removing the rest of the pieces I gently got out throu-gh the window,I did this while I tried to run away in the orphanage home in the past and so it’s nothing new to me.
As soon as I made it on the ground,I ran out of the palace and got a taxi,Telling him to head to the Ball which was being held by one of Gilbert friends
That was where they were going and If I can to them on time,I can st©p the accident from happening
But we got stuck in the traffic “seems like an accident has occurred”The driver said and on hearing that I got out of the car and head to the scene
I got there only to see The paramedics carrying away Gilbert and Sharon b©dy
“No! No! No”I yelled as I went towards them
“You can’t go near them,Stay back plea-se”The police officers who had been in charge held me back
“But they are my family!”I yelled at him
“Then just follow us in the patrol car but as of now,You can’t stay go near the deceased”He said
Just hearing Sharon being called a deceased broke my heart and throu-gh it all I noticed that some thing was odd
“The little girl,Their daughter,Where is she?”I asked
“No child was found in the car,It’s just the king and the queen”He said
“But that’s impossible,I saw them take Helen with them,Where could she be?”I asked but no answer was given to me
For weeks I tried to find out where Little Helen could be but nothing
I dare not return to the palace, cause I was sure that I was being searched for and if they find me,I would certainly be killed.
So instead I lived in the shadows,Getting all sort of jobs and trying to find out where Helen could be
Months flew by and I got nothing,Mark and his family were given the throne and though I wanted to kill him,I just couldn’t do a thing,What could a poor fifteen year old boy do.
When I thought that all hope was lost of finding Helen,I discovered from some one I knew who was loyal to Gilbert and Sharon that Helen is fine and that she is also living in the palace
But in the worst circu-mtance as ever, From how the lady explained,She was kept in door all day and would always get punished for little things.
She was practically being abused in the palace and no one dare say any thing because it’s was the king order.
On hearing this,I decided to do some thing about it,So one night I br@ced myself and sneaked into the palace re-ady to take Helen with me
Risking my life even knowing that once am sp©tted by the guards,I would be killed like Gilbert and Sharon
But I didn’t care,I made a promise to Sharon to always protect Helen and that’s what I will do
That night I did get into the palace and I saw her being reprimanded by the king at that precise moment.
I hid in the shadows watching the king lash out at the scared and terrified Helen while his wife and child watched
“You should have never been born but you did and that’s the cross you have to bear until you die,Lock her up in the storage room and don’t you give her food until I say so”He said pushing her and the guard took her away.
At that precise moment I wanted to kill him but I couldn’t,Getting Helen out of the house was the only reason I c@m£ and that’s what I will do,I thought
I was heading to the storage when suddenly some one pu-ll-ed me into a room
The room was dark but when the lights was turned on,I saw that it was one of the palace workers
“Don’t you know that you are being looked for,If they see you they will kill you”He said
“I don’t care ,I have to get little Helen out of here “I said
“Listen to me boy, It’s a very ha-rd thing to do,The security has ti-ght£ñ,Helen is being watched round the clock,The only way to get her out of here is close to nothing”He said
“Have lived here for a long time,I know how to get her out of here and who the hell are you to meddle and try to st©p me”I asked
“Believe me when I say that am some one who Hates the injustice being done to that little child, Each time they hurt her,I feel bad for her and I also want to find a way to get her out of this trouble”He said
“Why would you want to do that? You are just a worker here,You aren’t related to her”
“I know but with the little time have gotten close to her,I feel that she is special,I also have a son and I know how I will feel if that boy was being treated the way little Helen is being treated”
“So what do you plan on doing for her?”I asked
“I suggest that you leave her here”
“What do you mean by I should leave her here?”,
“I know it might sound stupid to you but that’s the best solution for now,I promise that while am here,I will always watch out for her until you are well on your feet,re-ady to claim her back”
“But I….”
“You are still a kid Ivan,Fourteen or fifteen if my guess is not wrong,If you manage to get little Helen out of here,How will you take care of her and your self,Think about it”He said interrupting me
I thought of what he said for a while and I knew that he some how had a point,If I did manage to get Helen out of the palace,How will I take care of her,I ba-rely manage on my own myself,How will a child like her cope.
“Let her stay here,I will watch over her until you are well capable of taking care of your self, I promise that when you can do that I will help you let Helen escape from here”He said
“How can I trust you,For all I know you might be be working with the king “I said
“You only have to trust my word,I alre-ady think of that child like my own and I promise you that I will always protect her “He said and some how I felt that I can trust him
“Fine then, You will watch over Helen while I try to make money and when I come back for her you will help me with it”I said
“Fine then”He said
“One more thing,You still haven’t told me your name yet”I asked
“Oh it’s Peter,Peter Chadwick”He said giving me a smile.
