DEAR
JOCELYN
Episode 49
(Semi_final)

Jocelyn’s Pov:
I sat in front of the big wall mirror in my room as the make up artistes did a very good job on me.
“We’re done ma’am” one of them said as they moved back a little.
I stood up and looked into the mirror.
Wow! They were specialists indeed.
I quic-kly changed from my causal dress into the dress Rodney had s£nt for me and when I was done, I couldn’t believe I was staring at myself in front of the mirror.
I never knew I could be this beautiful.
“You’re looking gorgeous miss Jocelyn” one of them said and I smiled and looked back into the mirror.
I walked out of the room together with the make up artistes and ran into mum in the sitting room.
“Jocelyn!” She g@sped at the sight of me.
“Oh, dear; you’re looking breathtaking” she said in an endearing tone and I smiled and embr@ced her.
“Thank you mum” I replied and we unlocked from the hvg.
“I wish you all the best dear. Your dad is alre-ady on his way home. We’re right behind you, okay?”
“Okay mum”.
And after a few more words, I left for the p@rty.
Megan’s Pov:
I la-id on the be-d, covered with a blanket, while Edith sat on the be-d with me.
My eyes were so dull and I was looking like a ghost.
“Megan, isn’t it obvious you’re feeling this way because of Rodney?” Edith asked as she stared pathetically at me.
I whimpered and wiped off the tear that tolled down my cheek.
“What do you want me to do Edith? I’m sure any lady in my shoes would feel worse than I feel.
“But, maybe you nee-d to accept the fact that Rodney can’t be yours. There are other guys in the world that’ll come for you, Megan”
“Edith, I know. But, it’s not that simple”.
I paused and wept.
Immediately, the door opened and mum c@m£ in.
Jocelyn’s Pov:
I sat next to Rachel on a table as I scoured my eyes round for Rodney.
I’ve been there for a while now, but there was no sign of him. I really wanted to see him.
The p@rty was pulsating with life as important people were pres£nt and I received a lot of plea-santries that my cheeks were alre-ady turning red.
“This parry is one in a town Jocelyn. Take a look at the flowers over there. They don’t grow here in the country” Rachel said elated as she pointed to the direction of the flowers, holding a glas-s of wine.
I didn’t reply but kept looking around for any sign of Rodney.
Just then, Leo showed up, brightly garbe-d.
“Hey Jocelyn. Wats up?” He greeted with buoy and sh0t a glance at Rachel who threw her face away.
“Hi Leo. Have you seen Rodney?” I replied and asked immediately.
“Oh! Don’t worry; he’s around.
Um…you’re looking good” he complimented and I smiled.
“Thanks” I replied.
“Um…I wasn’t talking to you. I was actually…reve
rting to her” he said and pointed to Rachel who snapped her head to look at him.
“Me?” She asked and pointed to herself.
“Yes. Your outfit is um…gorgeous” he replied and she scoffed
“Seriously? So now you have the guts to sound nice to me after everything you’ve done to me?” She said rashly.
“And what exactly have I don’t to you? On the contrary, I’ve been a victim of your arrogance”.
“Oh! So now I’m arrogant? Can you hear that Jocelyn? He c@m£ all the way here to insult me”.
I couldn’t help but laugh at the two cat and dog.
“Listen, Rachel, Leo, I think it’s high time you guys settled your differences” I said and Rachel rolled her eyes.
“I told you, Jocelyn, I alre-ady did. But he double crossed me and that’s the end of it” she snapped.
“Fine! You want my apology? I’m sorry okay? Enough of the wrangling” Leo said and she g@sped.
“Seriously? I’m wrangling?”
“Well, I just said I’m sorry. Goodness, you talk too much”.
I ignored them and started scrolling down my phone to call mum’s line. I was wondering why they were yet to arrive.
Just as I was about cl!çk!ng on her number, Rachel tapped me.
“Jocelyn, look!” She exclaimed and I lifted my eyes to take a look and there I found the projector on the stage, displa-ying my childhood pictures.
“Wow!’ The guests there exclaimed, all beaming with smiles.
A soft ro-mantic song was being pla-yed while the screen kept displa-ying my childhood pictures, some of which I was with Rodney and we were so adorable.
Then, not long after, Rodney c@m£ out, looking more handsome than he had ever been.
He was putting on a gold colored long sleeve, tucked in with a blue jeans and I realised we were both wearing to match.
He walked up to me and bowed a little.
“Um…hi miss. Can I have a dance?” He asked and I smiled ruefully, trying not to shed a tear.
I took his hand and he led me to the state.
Lights from c@m£ras kept flashing at us as different press men wanted to get a record of the whole thing. Even the guests around brou-ght out their phones to take pictures and videos.
We held each other and danced perfectly to the song, smiling and staring into each other’s eyes the whole time.
Towards the end of the song, a vest opened from up and flowers poured on both of us. I giggled as the song finally c@m£ to an end with Rodney twirling me around and finally catching me by the w@!st.
“I never knew you’ve become such an expert Rodney” I said in a beatific smile and Rodney also smiled back at me.
Then, he di-pped his hand into his pocket and brou-ght out a tiny jewellery box and my eyes gleamed. My heart beat increa-sed as I watched Rodney open the box and go on his knee.
I could swear my heart st©pped beating. I could feel my lungs drying up. That was the moment I’ve been waiting for: the moment of my life.
Rodney pu-ll-ed out the tiny glittering ring from the box and proffered it to me.
There was no way he was going to ask me to be his girlfriend again.
“Um…Jocelyn” he of paused and cleared his throat.
“I know this is coming unexpectedly, but…I can’t think of a better time to do this. We grew up together and…I don’t think there’s anyone I’d want to spend the rest of my life with aside you. I love you, Jocelyn, with everything that makes me Rodney and I want us to be together for the rest of our lives.
“So, I’m here today, kneeling in front of you and asking you the question I want to ask for once in my life. Will you marry me? plea-se say yes”.
I smiled out tears as I covered my mouth with my palm. I couldn’t hold back the tears anymore.
This was a dream come true – spending the rest of my life with Rodney – the only man I’ve ever loved.
I nodded tearfully.
“Of course, Rodney. Of course; yes” I replied ruefully.
His eyes beamed as he k!$$£d my palm and sli-pped the ring throu-gh my engagement f!nger.
Then, he stood up and k!$$£d me tempestuously like he’s never done before.
I wra-pped my hands around his shoulders and reciprocated the k!ssand the guests went on cheering immediately.
“I love you so much Jocelyn” he said.
“And I’ll always love you more”.
I smiled out tears and we k!$$£d again and just then, my phone beeped with a message.
I paused and brou-ght it out from my purse to see it was a message from mum:
Jocelyn, we’re at the hospital. Megan just pas-sed out

Authoress Chi:
Rodney, Jocelyn, Megan and Leo all rushed into the hospital building curiously.
It was Dr Davis Hospital.
They went over to receptionists who directed them to her ward.
Jocelyn was there because she was worried about her sister.
Rachel was there because she had to go along with Jocelyn.
Leo was there mostly because Rachel dragged him to.
But Rodney…His whole system was disorganised. He had a greater fear in him.
How come he never thought about it?
That incidence that night – between himself and Megan. Could this be it?
No; no.
He just prayed it isn’t.
There’s no way it could happen.
He couldn’t afford to thin of the consequences.
They finally got to the ward and when they entered, they found her – Megan – sitting on the be-d with her parents and Edith beside her.
Davis was in the room as well with a nurse and a stethoscope around his n£¢k.
“Megan” Jocelyn called immediately and ran to her on the be-d.
She t©uçhed her forehead, trying to feel her temperature.
“Mum, what’s wrong with her? What happened?”
“Jocelyn” Megan called softly and t©uçhed her palm.
“plea-se, calm down. You don’t nee-d to worry much about me. I’ll be fine”.
Rodney’s anxiety had increa-sed.
What could be wrong? Why did she pas-s out?
“But what happened to her? Is she okay?” Leo asked.
“Actually” Davis c@m£ in.
“I’ve run some tests on her and…”
He paused and adjusted the stethoscope around his n£¢k.
“She’s going throu-gh a lot of stress and nee-ds mas-sive rest right now. She’s running high temperature which is resulting in the feverish symptoms she’s been experiencing. But not to worry, I’ll be prescribing some effective drugs for her and within the twi-nkle of an eye, it’ll all be over.” He expounded and Rodney heaved a hvge sigh of relief; although nob©dy noticed.
“Thank goodness; it’s nothing serious.” Rachel mumbled.
“plea-se Megan; get well soon. Okay?” Jocelyn said.
“Um…sorry for interrupting your p@rty” she said.
“I had no idea mum was going to call you. I’d have st©pped her” .
“Well, I was scared. I thought it was something serious. The way you just psssed out” Mrs James grouse.
“Well, she’s been thinking a lot lately and that’s the reason she pas-sed out.
I think she nee-ds some fresh air. Don’t worry, Megan; I’ll fix a d@t£ for you with someone” Davis said with a wi-nk and few of the people in the room laughed; while Megan just chuckled.
“Uh…Jocelyn” she called.
“How was the p@rty?”
Jocelyn smiled and looked and looked at Rodney, then back at her.
“It was fine. Um…Rodney proposed to me” she replied and displa-yed the ring on her f!nger.
“Oh, my baby!” Mrs James exclaimed and stood up to embr@ce her.
“I’m happy for you”.
“Thank you mum.”
“Congratulations, Jocelyn” her father said and she giggled.
“Congratulations, sis” Megan said with a light smile and looked at Rodney.
“Congratulations” she said to him
“You two…are just perfect for each other. You deserve each other. I’m happy for you”.
Rodney took in a de-ep breath and inser-ted his hands into his trou-ser pocket.
“Thanks. And…get well soon. ” he replied and she nodded with a smile.
“And you; won’t you say something?” Rachel growled at Leo after nudging him.
“And how does it concern you? The last time I checked, It’s my mouth and…”
“Oh, plea-se! its not yours. You should be grateful to God for allowing your mum to give birth to you. You’re such a j£rk”
“Really? I’m trying to be kind here. Why are you being so difficult?”
“If you really want to be kind, you’ll have to make up for all the terrible things you’ve done to me.”
“But I didn’t do anything wrong. Fine! Just tell me what you want cause I’m tired of being haunted by you”.
“Seriously? I’m haunting you? Perfect!” Rachel said and stormed out of the room.
“Hey!” Leo called and went after her.
The rest of the people in the room just look at each other in amusement and laughed.
“Um…Jocelyn” Rodney called after a while.
“Can I have a word with you, plea-se?”

He took her to a more quiet p@rt of the building where they were sure to have some privacy.
“What’s wrong, Rodney?” She asked as they stood face to face with each other.
He took in a de-ep breath and inser-ted his hands into his trou-ser pockets.
He felt so nervous; but nee-ded to do the right thing.
He couldn’t go on with the burden and secret anymore.
“Jocelyn” he called calmly and held her hand.
Her curiosity was Increasing as well.
“I love you so much, Jocelyn, with everything that makes me a man. And that’s the reason I’ve decided not to keep anymore secrets from you.”
He paused and sighed again.
“I’m sorry bae; but I lied to you. That day at my personal house, when you had asked me if you were the first woman I ever had s3z with, I’m sorry, I lied.”.
Jocelyn’s jaws dropped as she flin-ched.
“Before you showed up…Megan and I…We…” he paused and bent his head.
“I’m so sorry. It was so complicated. But it’s all in the past now. It was a hvge mistake and I want you to know I’m de-eply sorry for it.”
He went on his knees.
“plea-se, Jocelyn; I was just confused. I didn’t mean to. I…I was drun!kand she…
“I’m truly sorry. I swear with my life, you’re the only woman I’ve ever loved and will love for as long as I live”.
Tears were alre-ady rolling down her cheeks, although she wanted to st©p them, but couldn’t.
It was just coming as a shock to her.
“How can I be the only woman you’ll ever love?” She asked tearfully.
“St©p lying to me, Rodney”.
“Jocelyn, I swear with my life; I’ll never love anyone else aside you; not even when I’m dead” he said pathetically.
His heart was melting alre-ady.
“What about our baby?” She asked.
” When we have a daughter, won’t you love her as much as you love me?”
Rodney looked at her in surprise and penitence.
Then, with tears still rolling down her cheeks, she helped him up from the floor and embr@ced him.
“I love you, Rodney. And right now,,It’s impossible for me to think of leaving you” she said ruefully, holding him ti-ght.
Rodney was speechless.
He also held her ti-ght and fought back his tears.
Then, they unlocked from the hvg and he cu-mpped her cheeks in his hands.
“I don’t know what I’m ever gonna do to show you how much I love you, Jocelyn. If I were to chose between an eternity in heaven and a moment with you, I’d come running to you without looking back at the gates of heaven.
I’m not just lucky to have someone like you; I’m blessed”.
Finally, the tear c@m£ rolling down as he went for herl-ips, k!ss!ngher pas-sionately.
She reciprocated happily and they k!$$£d for a long time, not realising Leo and Rachel were taking pictures of them.
