Rodney’s Pov:
I took Megan to the kitchen and kept her by the door while I went ahead to make some coffee for her.
“Should I make it less sugary?” I asked but didn’t get any reply from her.
“Megan?” I called and turned to look at her and saw her trying to stand up from the wheelchair.
But she screamed and fell on the floor and I ran to her immediately.
“Megan! What are you doing?” I asked as I carried her up from the floor and kept her back on the wheelchair.
She was alre-ady in tears.
“What were you doing Megan?” I asked again and she buried her face In my che-st, still crying.
“I’m sorry Rodney, but I’m tired of all these. I’m tired of being moved around like a log. I’m stressing everyone; I’m stressing you. But I don’t want it to be this way. I want to make use of my legs again. I’m tired Rodney” she whimpered and I held her cheeks pas-sionately.
“Where do you get such thoughts from, Megan?” I asked.
“Whoever told you you were stressing me? Huh? We’re friends okay? And it’s my responsibility to be here for you. I’m here because I want to.
“And about your legs, don’t worry, I promise you you’ll be fine. The doctor said in a few days, you’ll be able to walk again. so, don’t worry about it okay?” I said pathetically as I wiped her.her face.
“Okay” she replied tearfully and embr@ced me.
Audrey’s Pov:
I was walking down the road, headed to a sto-re to get some supplies.
I kept thinking the whole time and prayed a vehicle doesn’t run into me from behind.
I kept thinking of Megan and her selfish plans. Why was she trying to coax Rodney into her a arms? That wasn’t the right way to fall in love.
I wanted to expo-se her but felt reluctant since I had no evidence.
Besides, why should I be of help to Mr Rodney after all the mean things he did to me? Maybe it was better he falls in love with Megan, even if it happens the wrong way.
Still on for road, I ran into a woman selling cu-pcakes and bought one from her.
I was about eating it when I sighted someone important from across the road. Mrs James!
She was about entering her car and I didn’t hesitate to run to her.
“Mrs James!” I called and she turned to look at me.
“Um…good evening ma’am” I greeted and paused to re-ad the expression on her face.
“Evening. How’re you?” She replied and asked, taking a good look at me.
I guess she’d recognise me.
“I’m fine ma’am. Thanks.
“Um…I don’t know if you’ve recognised me, but I’m Audrey and…I was the lady that was being bullied by your daughter the other day in school. But you c@m£ in and stood up for me. So, I just want to say a very big thank you for what you did. I mean, you stood up against your own daughter just for me. That’s incredible. So, I want to thank you for it” I said with a pretty smile and she smiled back at me.
“There’s no nee-d for that” she said calmly.
“I only did what was right. But you’re welcome anyway”
She tired going into the car but I st©pped her.
“Um…plea-se Mrs James, accept this cu-pcake as a token of my appreciation” I said and she collected it from me.
“Thanks” she said and tried going into the car, but I st©pped her again.
“Aren’t you eating it?” I asked with a pla-yful grin and see smiled and took a bite from it.
I giggled as I watched her eat and she ended up laughing.
“it’s delicious. Thanks” she told me and opened her car again.
“it was nice meeting you, Audrey” she said with a sweet smile as she got into the car.
“It was nice meeting you too, Mrs James” I replied and heard her turn on the ignition.
She waved at me from the window and took off.
Rodney’s Pov:.
I sat in front of Megan who was on a wheelchair as I opened the plate of ice cream.
I took in a spoon of it and fed the other spoon to her.
“So, how’s work, Rodney?” She asked as she awaited me to give her another spoon of the ice cream.
I took a little quantity of the ice cream on the spoon and gave it to her as a litre quantity of it stained on herl-ips. I cleaned it off and she smiled.
“Well, work’s fine. The company’s moving progressively” I replied.
“Hm. So, how does it feel being a manager, huh?”
“Argh! Trust me; it’s cool but not entirelyentirely funny. You have to work stressfully on all those lazy workers”.
She laughed and I continued feeding her with the ice cream.
After a while, I gave the plate to her and stood up to get something from the table.
Immediately i turned, I heard Megan dropping something and I turned to see the ice cream plate falling on the floor and Megan was trying to stand on her feet.
“Megan, no. What are you doing?”
“Hold on Rodney; I think I can feel my legs”.
I rushed to her immediately and supported her back.
She held on to the chair firmly and slowly, she weakly stood but fell back on the chair again.
She took in a de-ep breath and tried doing it again and this time around, she was able to stand on her feet. Tears filled her eyes.
She looked at me who was also looking at her with disbelieve and at the same time, happiness.
“Rodney, I…I can walk! I can walk!” She screamed and jumped on me and I held her firmly to myself, ma-king sure her feet was tou-ching the floor.
“I can walk Rodney” she said again, shaking my shi-t with tears.
I didn’t know what to say as I was overwhelmed with happiness.
I k!$$£d her cheek and still didn’t let go of her. For me, it was like a dream come true.
finally, my conscience would be clear. Megan was able to walk away and it was like an answer to my prayers.
Audrey’s Pov:
I sat impatiently in the sitting room, waiting for Leo to come down with the books he promised.
He had been driving me home from school when I started complaining of some books I nee-ded and that was when he changed direction and started taking me to his house. He told me he had the books at home and was willing to give them out to her.
Well, I wasn’t comfortable with the idea because I was scared of meeting Rodney. But I had no other option since Leo wouldn’t change his mind. I couldn’t tell why he enjoyed spending more time with me.
I looked at the time – 5 pm. I was supposed to report to work in an hour and time was so not on myself.
I looked at the stairs which he had taken to his room, but there was no sign of him. Where the hell could he be? And none of the maids were coming around.
I felt I had wasted enough time and nee-ded to go check on him myself and after a little reluctance, I took the stairs.
I walked carefully on it and it brou-ght me to a stunning corridor with few rooms in It. I suddenly felt nervous. Was I doing the right thing?
I walked to the first room on the right and noticed the door was locked.
Then, I walked over to the second room and knocked lightly on it. I knocked again and surprisingly, Megan opened up.
Huh?
She stared at me with surprise and stood by the doorway.
“What are you doing here?” She asked peskily and I couldn’t give her a reply immediately.
I was confused and wondered why she was there In the room.
Who’s room was it anyway?
“Have you gone deaf?” She snarled.
“I asked a question. What are you doing here?”
“I…I’m just…I’m sorry, I was looking for Leo’s room” I stuttered and gulped down nothing.
“Oh, really? You’re looking for Leo’s room over here? Are you blind?” She asked.
“Megan, what’s going on?” I heard a familiar voice in the room and Rodney showed up immediately.
Tears quic-kly c@m£ my eyes.
So, it was his room?

Audrey’s Pov:
He also looked surprised seeing me there.
“You won’t believe it, Rodney” Megan said with an angry smile.
“She’s looking for Leo’s room and the first room that could come to her mind was yours”.
I was out of words and Rodney couldn’t even think of anything to say to me.
“Audrey?” I heard my name from behind and I turned to see Leo coming out of one of the rooms on the left.
I bent my head and tried to hold back my tears as he c@m£ to me.
“Is something wrong?” He asked, staring at Megan and Rodney, then back at me.
“Nothing really. Just mind the kind of visitor you bring to the house, Leo” Megan replied rashly and shut the door.
Leo looked at me and could probably notice the tears that filled my eyes.
“What happened?” He asked and I shook my head.
“I was just…looking for you” I replied and sniffed and he sighed.
“Sorry I took long. I had to attend to something important” he stated and held my back, leading me out of the corridor.
We got to the sitting room and just when we were about going out, his phone rang and he went upstairs again.
I finally let ouout a tear since I was alone, but wiped it off immediately just in case someone comes in. I couldn’t tell why I was so affected by what I saw.
Well, that has always been my problem. I’ve always been too emotional.
I remained standing and not long after, I heard some footsteps climbing down the stairs. I thought it might be Leo; but when I lifted my eyes to see whom it was, I discovered it was Rodney and Megan.
They were walking silently with Megan in front and she was smiling. It seemed they were going out as a result of their gorgeous appearances.
Rodney kept staring at me as he climbe-d down the stairs and I f0rç£d myself to look at the floor.
Megan sh0t me a glare as she walked past me and opened the door. But when Rodney got to where I was, he st©pped and faced me and my heart gave a mighty leap.
Why did he st©p? What does he have to say?
I couldn’t resist the look anymore as I finally stared into his face. He was staring back at me.
He was so cute and I didn’t really blame myself for having such de-sires that left me heartbroken.
“Hi” he said in a soft smile and my eyes glistened.
I thought of what to say.
“Go…Good evening…Mr Rodney” I greeted nervously and tried not to whimper.
He didn’t say any again but only walked to the door and followed Megan out of the sitting room.
Leo c@m£ down immediately and also took me out of the room to where his car was parked. We got into the car and from the opened window, I stared at Rodney as he stood by his own car with Megan.
He also kept staring at me, but Leo wined up the glas-s and we couldn’t see each other anymore since the window was ha-rd cover.
*
The drive was very silent and I kept staring throu-gh the window the whole time. I kept thinking of Rodney and Megan.
It seems her fake accident wasn’t in vain as Rodney seemed to be falling for her.
I remembered the way he had stared at me and it hurt me a lot.
“Don’t give a thought to whatever Megan might have said or did.
She’s always been a spoilt br@t” Leo finally broke the silence and I took my eyes from the window to look at him.
I bent my head and sighed faintly.
We were alre-ady approaching the house and Leo was distracted by his phone and didn’t notice Rachel who was trying to cross the road.
He almost ran into her, but luckily he didn’t. But she fell on the end of the road and something like food poured on the floor.
Leo was trying to quic-kly pack his car when she ran up to the front and threw a stone a this windscreen, ma-king it crack.
I g@sped.
Leo st©pped the car immediately and ran out with me.
“Rachel, what are you…”
“Audrey?” She interrupted me, sounding surprised.
She probably had no idea we were the ones.
“So it’s you?” She asked and pointed her f!nger at Leo.
“How could you drive so recklessly? Do you know what i had to go throu-gh to save up money for this sumptuous meal you’ve just wasted? Do you even know the eatery I had gotten it from?”
“What are you trying to say?” Leo Snapped back at her.
“is that enough reason for you to break my windscreen? Besides, you were also careless in crossing the road.”
“Oh! So now I’m careless? And what do you mean it’s not enough reason for me to break your windscreen? Is it until my head is rolled off before you’ll have enough reason to…”
“Well, I seriously wish your head rolls off so your mouth can get lost as well”
“Whaaaat?”
“Rachel!” I finally cut in and sh0t her a stare.
“What are you doing? You’re at fault here. Apologise to him”
She stared at me and scoffed.
“Tell him to apologise to my meal first. I got It from Dsquare eatery” she replied and walked away.
Rodney’s Pov:
“Just get me cobb salad” Megan said to waiter that stood beside us and he scribbled it down in a notebook and turned to me who was alre-ady going throu-gh the menu.
“And you, sir?” He asked politely.
“I think I’ll go with brunswick stew” I replied and he nodded and left.
“Brunswick stew?” Megan asked, a bit surprised.
“I never knew you liked it”.
“Oh! I didn’t it. But I got to” I replied.
Soon, the waiter returned with our orders and after placing them on the table, he left.
We started eating and I took in a spoon of the brunswick stew and smiled.
“Do you know how to prepare it?” I asked and Megan shook her head.
“Do you?” She also asked.
“Yes”
“Oh, really?” She asked and chuckled.
“Why don’t you list out some of the ingredients, then?”
I adjusted on my seat and smiled and without reluctance, listed all the ingredients to her.
“How did you know al these? Where did you learn it from?” She asked and I bent my head and smiled.
“From a friend” I replied.
*
When we were done with dinner, I took her home, but it started raining heavily and she advice me to wait till the rain subsided.
I waited for a long time but there was no sign of the rain getting to st©p at any minute.
“I think I’ll have to Megan. It’s alre-ady late” I said to Megan as we both stood at the balcony, watching the rain.
“Um…Rodney, why don’t you spend the night here? It’s very late and might be dangerous moving alone. Besides, you’re drun!k” she replied.
I don’t know why I had ended up taking too much alcohol at the restaurant. It all happened when we started talking about the brunswick stew.
“I’ll be back” she said and left me at the balcony, going inside.
I couldn’t tell why I was so frustrated that very night. I just couldn’t be at ease.
I nee-ded more drinks.
After a while, the rain reduced to a drizzling pour, but it was alre-ady late. But I still decided to return home.
So, I went into the house to inform Megan i was leaving but I couldn’t find her in the sitting room.
I decided to check on her in her room, but she wasn’t there either. Although her phone was on the be-d.
I was about going out of the room when the door of her bathroom opened and she walked out, tying just a towel around her che-st. The towel was very short and was above her h!ps.
We stared at each other with surprise.
“Rodney…”
“Megan…”
We called at the same time and paused.
Megan drew closer.
“I um…just wanted to tell you I’m about leaving” I said and shook my head.
My vision was kind of blur, but I couldn’t tell why I was picturing Megan’s face to be Jocelyn’s.
I turned to leave but she held me back.
“I was trying to say…its late. Why don’t you spend the night here?” She replied in a serene tone.
I kept staring at her face and it was clear to me it was Megan. There was no way it could be Jocelyn.
Then, some words started flashing into my mind:
/Jocelyn is dead/
/When will you ever learn to accept what happened to Jocelyn and move on with your life?/
/Nob©dy caused the death of Jocelyn/
/If she were still alive, she’d have returned to you/
I didn’t realise I was alre-ady k!ss!ngMegan.
What am I even doing?
I quic-kly unlocked from the k!ssand tried turning around, but Megan held me back and k!$$£d me pas-sionately.
The whole thing was coming too sudden and I couldn’t control my thoughts; my feelings.
I s£nt my f!ngersdown my hair and the towel she tied got loosed and fell on the floor.
I stared at her and couldn’t take my eyes away.
Oh, God! What am I doing?
I held her by the w@!st and s£nt my hand downwards as I resumed k!ss!ngher.
/Jocelyn/
/Jocelyn/
/Jocelyn/
The name rang in my head but I couldn’t control my feelings anymore.
She took off my shi-t and un-hooked my belt and next, I found myself taking her to the be-d.
