Maxine’s Pov:
I stood behind the door in fear and listened to them.
“Before you take Maxine away, you’ll have to kill me” I heard Noah say and my heart skipped.
What????
Oh my God! What’s he doing?
I looked throu-gh the keyhole and saw the police officers all staring dumbfounded at him.
“Mr Noah…” One of them called.
“We really hope you’re not trying to cause a fight here”.
“Well, who’s with the gun?” Noah replied and they looked at each other.
“And what makes you think I abducted her?” He further asked.
“I only saved her from the people she calls family. How does it look like abduction?”
“From her family?” I heard my uncle ask.
“What’re you talking about? You barged into my house with some men and guns and f0rç£fully took her away. So, how’s that not an abduction?”
“You’ve been treating like a slave, so st©p calling her your niece!” Noah rasped.
“If you’re really here to take her away, then you must’ve explained to the police how you lock her up and beat her like a slave”.
“Mr Noah, plea-se” one of the police men said.
“We’d want to continue this conversation at the station. But for now, where’s the lady?”
“I’m here” I suddenly said as I opened the door and walked out.
Gosh! I had no idea where I got the courage, but at that point, I just felt I nee-ded to do something.
I walked out and their faces beamed on seeing me. Even Noah turned to spare me a stare.
“Maxine!” My uncle called.
“She’s the one! Maxine come over here!”
“I’m not coming back to you, uncle” I said – nervously.
His jaws dropped.
“I can’t come back to you – not after all you’ve made me pas-s throu-gh”.
“Miss Maxine” one of the policemen called.
“What are you talking about? What has he…”
“Officers” I cut in.
“I…I really appreciate the help, but I want you to know I’ve chos£n to stay here with Mr Noah. He saved me from my family who’ve only treated me as a slave and made me pas-s throu-gh hell. I’ve always prayed for an opportunity to get away from them. And fortunately, Mr Noah learnt the truth and saved me from them. So plea-se, I’d very much love to stay here”.
“Maxine!” My uncle called, ma-king me flin-ch.
“What the hell are you talking about?? Get over here now! Just admit it, he’s forcing you to say all these, right? He’s forcing you!”
“I’m not f0rç£d by anyone, uncle! I’m not, plea-se” I replied and turned to the officers.
“Officers, I’m old enough to make my own decisions and I’ve chos£n to stay here with Mr Noah because my family only maltreats me at home. plea-se, officers. Don’t f0rç£ me to go back to hell”.
A stunned silence stepped in as even uncle’s face turned so-re.
The police men looked at each other.
“I guess you’ve heard her” Noah said calmly.
“Now, if you f0rç£ her to go back to him, I’ll make sure you all lose your job. Besides, I don’t think it’s stated in any p@rt of the constitution that a lady above 18 is bound to live with her guardians”.
Next, he turned to me.
“Let’s go in” he said levelly and started walking into the house.
I gave my uncle and the policemen one nervous stare and also went in.

I stood by the window and watched my uncle and the policemen leave.
Oh my gee! They left! We did it!
“That was awesome” I heard Noah say from behind and turned to see him coming towards me.
Oh.
I bent my head shyly.
“You did a great job by defending yourself. Never thought you could do that” he added and my cheeks flu-shed.
“Thanks” I muttered.
Well, I just hope my uncle doesn’t come back for more.
“The maids will serve you breakfast soon. I nee-d to go somewhere and when I’m back, we’ll leave to get you new clothes. And…regarding your school, I’ve ordered new uniforms and books for you and by evening, they should be re-ady. So, take care for now” he explained and walked out before I could say anything.
Hmm. The whole thing just left me speechless.

Noah’s Pov:
I sat in the car, smiling to myself as I drove along
Hm. That was quite br@ve of her – never thought she could stand up to herself.
I was beginning to get upset about that character of hers alre-ady. Well, thank God she proved me wrong.
That family of hers are
unbelievable. I can’t believe he actually involved the police, all in the name of claiming her back.
Hm. Desperation. But, I wonder what their problem is anyway.. Why’s he so bent on getting her back when they only treat her like a slave? Could it be they enjoy watching her suffer?
My phone started ringing and I checked to see it was mum
Yeah – perfect.
I picked it up immediately and put it on speaker.
☎Mum” I called.
☎Noah, where are you?” She asked warmly
☎I’m on my way alre-ady. I’ll be there soon”
☎Okay; I’m waiting”
And she ended the call.
Hm. I wonder why she and dad are calling for me. Probably, it’s because of Maxine. Of course.
I just hope they get to believe me and don’t turn it into a big deal.

I drove for a long time and after a while, finally arrived at the mansion.
The gate was opened swiftly for me and I drove in and parked in the garage, then stepped out of the car afterwards.
I looked around.
Hm. Nothing’s changed – I guess.
I took in a de-ep breath and proceeded to the house to see mum and dad.
But unfortunately, I met someone else.
Yeah – unfortunately because he always ruins my mood.
Rex.
He was walking and operating his phone but st©pped on seeing me.
“Hey”, he chuckled.
“Big…brother. What’re you doing here? Seems someone decided to pay us a visit”.
I scoffed a bit.
“Yeah – hi” I mumbled and tried ignoring him by walking away.
“You left her all alone at home?” He asked and I turned to look at him.
“You’ve got a problem with that?” I asked.
“Woah! Why re you acting like you didn’t steal her from me?” He laughed.
“Anyway, enjoy your time” he added and walked out and I shook my head and proceeded to the house.

Rex’s Pov:
Perfect!!
fuc-king perfect!!
Oh! Noah, you have no idea how happy you’ve made me this morning.
I rushed into my room and got some tools. I hid them properly and rushed out to the garage where his car was parked and ma-king sure no one was watching, I punched the tyres.
Yeah! Perfect.
I brou-ght out my phone and dialed the leader”s line.
Better pick up!
It rang for a long time but luckily, he picked up just before it rang to an end.
☎Boss” he called.
☎Hey, Hope you’re re-ady? My brother’s here now and I just punched his tyre. So definitely, he’ll be having a flat tyre on his way home and that’ll be the perfect time to carry out the job. Don’t disappoint me”
☎Sure, sure. Of course, boss. Consider it done”.
And I ended the call.
Perfect.
Next, I reached for my car and got in, igniting the engines.
It turned on and I smiled as I started driving out of the compound, headed for Naoh’s house.
I’m coming for you, Maxine.
Today’s gonna be the best day of my life.
Time for payback.

Noah’s Pov:
“Noah!” Mum called in excitement as soon as she sp©tted me.
I met her in the kitchen.
“Good morning, mum” I beamed and received the hvg she offered.
“Oh! My dear son! Finally,you’re home”she said perkily and k!$$£d my cheek.
“I’ve missed you. How was your night?”
“It was fine,thanks” I replied.
She took a slice of fried plantain and pushed it into my mouth and I couldn’t resist.
She smiled as she watched me chew.
“Finally, He’s home” I heard dad say and turned to see him walking into the kitchen.
I cleared my throat and stood properly to face him.
“Good morning, dad” I greeted and awaited the scold.
“Yeah, good morning. And I hope you alre-ady have an explanation for the rumours flying around. What is it about you and the Maxine girl?” He asked in that strict tone of his.
“Dad…it’s nothing you guys should worry about. I’m just trying to be of help” I replied.
“Be of help? What’re you talking about?”
“Well…the Maxine lady…she’s been suffering a lot in their hands of her so called family. They’ve turned her into a slave and use her like a piece of rag. It’s pretty annoying and…I just thought I should be of help”. I explained and for a moment, he was speechless.
“So…you decided to take her away against her family’s will and live with her?” He asked and I itched my head.
“Those people don’t deserve to be called her family, dad. They…”
“So, why should it concern you?” He cut me off.
“I mean, what relationsh!pdo you have with her? And how did you even get to know about the ill- treatment she receives from her family? Did she discuss them with you or what?”
I shook my head.
“Noah, if she’s having a problem with her family, the police should be the ones to handle that, not you. I don’t see any reason you should meddle in unrelated people’s affairs”.
“I’m not, dad. Just leave it to me, okay? I can handle it” I replied, alre-ady getting pissed off.
“Noah” mum called tenderly and placed her hand on my shoulder.
“Your father’s right. You nee-d to let go of that girl to avoid having disputes with her family”.
“They can do nothing. And I’m not letting her go. Just chill, mum. Okay? plea-se” I huffed and sank my f!ngersinto my hair.
“Talk to your son. Talk to him” dad said angrily and walked away and I rolled my eyes.
Yeah – whatever.
“Noah” mum called and sighed.
“You nee-d to listen to your dad”.
“I’ve told you, mom. I’m fine. You don’t have worry about me. Maxine will be staying with me until she decides to leave” I replied peskily and she shrugged.
“Help me with the tray. Come on, and join me for breakfast” she said as she took the plate of fried plantains and started walking out of the kitchen and I lifted the last tray and followed her.

Maxine’s Pov:
I c@m£ out of the bathroom with a towel tied around my che-st and was about taking my dress from the be-d when a news from the tele gr!pp£dmy attention.
They were announcing the chos£n contestants!
I paused to watch with keen interests as they displa-yed it on the tele.
Wow!
The A3 made it!
So many others..
And…
Oh my gee! I was among!!
I made it.
“Yes!!!” I exclaimed and jumped up in excitement.
“I did it! Yes!”
I laughed and fell on the be-d and my towel nearly got loosed from my che-st.
Oh! Good saviors! I made it!
I giggled happily and turned on the be-d.
But a knock on the door interrupted the moment as I sat up.
“Who’s it?” I asked but got no reply.
It was probably a maid.
I left the be-d and went to check it out and as soon as I opened the door, my feet wo-bbled.
Whaaaaaat?
“R…Rex?” I called in shock as he sm-irked at me.
Oh my God! What’s he doing here??
Immediately, he brou-ght out a small gun from his pocket and signalled me to keep shut.

Noah’s Pov:
After eating with mum, I decided to leave and she accompanied me to my car.
“I miss you, Noah. If you really want Maxine to be with you, why don’t you bring her over to the house so we can all be together?” She asked wistfully and I shook my head.
“I can’t,mum” I replied
“But why? Is it because of your brother?” She asked and I nodded.
“I don’t want him close to Maxine. You know what happened. And that lady has gone throu-gh a lot alre-ady to face anymore troubles” .
She didn’t say any other thing until I finally got to my car.
“Well, just be careful, okay?” She held my cheek and said and I nodded.
“Bye mum”.
“Bye”.
And I walked into the car.
I turned on the engines and took off and in a few minutes, I was on the road.

I had ba-rely gone far when the car started slowing down and malfunctioning.
I hit the sterling repeatedly, getting pissed off at it.
What could possibly be wrong?
Finally, it screeched to a halt and I flin-ched.
“fuc-k!!* i rasped and hit the sterling
It was probably a flat tyre.
Like…today of all times???
I gro-an ed and stepped out of the car to check it out and immediately, a black car pu-ll-ed over in front of me with three boys coming out of it
I ignored them and went to have a look at the tyre but surprisingly, the boys c@m£ to me.
“Mr Noah” one of them called and I stood to face them.
They were strange.
“Yes…can I help you?” I asked, wondering who they were and what business they had with me.
“Um…actually, we don’t nee-d any help from you. We just have something quic-k and important to do” another replied and before I could realize what was happening, he landed a punch on my face.
Whaaaat??
What the hell??
I t©uçhed my cheek and looked at them in shock and immediately, they all bounced on me.

Maxine’s Pov:
He pointed the gun at me and signalled me to go in and I did and he locked the door afterwards.
“Hello Maxine” he sm-irked and cli-cked the gun, ma-king me hyperventilate.
“How’re you doing?”
I shuddered in fear.
“S…sir Rex” I stuttered.
“What’re you doing?”
“Shut thefu-ck up, Maxine, before I b!ow off your head” he rasped and I shivered.
Oh my God! Why does it have to be now that Noah’s not at home?
He adjusted the gun in his hand and moved closer to me. He smiled as he walked round me.
“Seems you’re just coming out of the bathroom” he stated calmly, ma-king me really scared.
Why does this have to happen now?
“Has Noah gained access to it?” He asked, but I couldn’t say a word.
Surprisingly, he took his hand to the ti-p of the towel and my eyes dilated in shock.
“plea-se, don’t” I wavered and moved away from him and he pointed the gun at me.
“If you take one more step, I’ll cripple you” he blurted and I whimpered
“What do you want from me? plea-se” I wept and he smiled and c@m£ closer.
“Well…I’m here to give you two options.
“Tell me your relationsh!pwith Noah and the bar-man or I’llfu-ck you to death this very instance” he threatened and I g@sped.
Whaat?
