BETRAYER IN DISGUISEšŸ‘½šŸ‘½
Episode 14

As the driver got the phone from me to speak with my dad, we heard gunsh0ts on the background that the driver looked at me,
“What was that? What’s going on! I shouted and got the phone from him.
“Daddy! I shouted on the phone but the gunsh0ts continued.

“Joan we are attacked, my dad managed to say as I heard my mom shouting.
“Who’s attacking? Daddy! I shouted and the line went off.

I almost opened the door not minding the bus was still moving but the woman who sat with me held me,
“What do you want to do? The woman asked.
“My family is in danger plea-se, I said struggling with her.

“plea-se take it easy okay, take it easy, the driver said and called my dad number but he didn’t pick up. I was crying bitterly alre-ady as I feared for my family,
“Call the police na, women at the back said.

“I know a number, I said and got the phone from the driver and dialled the police man who turned to be a family friend but he didn’t pick up.
After 3 rings he didn’t still pick up and I almost ran mad in the bus.

Suddenly we saw a check point and pu-ll-ed over. We didn’t even allow the police men to say a thing, we quic-kly reported what was going on.
“For where e dey happen! One asked and I quic-kly called my address.

“Make I make call, one said and made a call reporting the case.
“Is it happening now? The police men asked us still on phone.

“Yes o, everyone replied.
“Abeg make they go quic-k o abeg, some women added as the police man was still talking on phone.

“No wahala them dey road, the police man said to us when he dropped the call and we thanked them and drove off.
Great fever held me with unbearable headache, and all the prayers and words of encouragement the women poured on me didn’t enter my ears.

Then the driver phone began to ring and he saw it was my dad number,
“Girl your dad is calling, the driver said and I opened my eyes and quic-kly got the phone from him.

“Dad what happened? Daddy? I shakily called out.
“Joan are you okay? He asked.

“Dad I should ask you that, I heard gunsh0ts, I replied.
“Hmm Joan, Steve (our police friend I was calling) is wounded, he said.

“How come? I asked.
“I actually called to tell him what you told us so he offered to help. He c@mĀ£ down and just when we were about driving out we got attacked and he was hit but not that bad. But someone suddenly helped out and sh0t the person attacking and drove off, and when I went near to see who it was, behold it was an officer you should know very well, my dad narrated and I ru-bbe-d my head.

“Is the attacker dead? I asked.
“Not yet, he replied.

“Dad I thought I told you not to tell the police because there’s a betrayer in their midst, I think he was one of them, I said.
“Joan, you’ll be surprised to see who it was, Steve is shocked himself, my dad said.

“Is his wound bad? I asked.
“Your mom applied a first aid and he called for backup, they are on the way to take him to the hospital, he replied.

“Okay dad, we are almost at the junction now not too far from the house, but then its too risky for us to spend the night at home, I said.
“I’ll wait for you okay, should I go wait for you at the junction? He asked.

“Okay dad, but be careful okay, i replied.
“Alright alright, he said and dropped the call and i breathed out.

“Are you okay now? The driver asked and I nodded returning his phone.
“Thank you sir, I said.

“Its nothing, just make sure you all leave the house this night, the driver said and I nodded…………….

We arrived at the junction after the driver dropped a woman off and took down her goods from the bus.
I c@mĀ£ down and hvgged my dad ti-ght,
“What did they do to you? My dad asked.

“Let’s talk about that later, I replied and he shook hands with the driver thanking him.
“Its nothing, plea-se go to a safe place, tje driver said.

“I will I will, thank you all, my dad said greeting the women which I did also and we took off home.
The backups they were waiting for arrived and we met them carrying the wounded.

My dad told me not to leave the car, at the point he didn’t know who to trust anymore. I saw mu mom c@mĀ£ out holding a bag and holding my brother hand ti-ght andtgry lookef at my dad wjen he met with them nut he blinked at rhem.

“Go put the bag in the car, my dad said to them and remains with the police men while they c@mĀ£ and hvgged me inside the car without the police noticing.
“Look at you, just look at you Joan, mymim said crying, i know she must be going throu-gh lots of shocks and worry.

“I’m back mommy, I’m back, I said and hvgged my brother.
‘So make we follow you na in case of anything, we heard an officer said to my dad.

“No no its okay, we can manage, my dad said.
“But its late and you just saw what happened, he insisted.

“I know but the place is not far, its a relation place very close so you don’t nee-d to bother, my dad said and held Steve hands.
“You’ll be fine okay, my dad said to him.

‘Take care of your family okay, Steve said.
“I will, we will visit in the morning, my dad said and left but my eyes remained on the police man who insisted to go with my father. His face was too suspicious and the way he looked at my dad said it all.

My dad opened up the car and drove off and my mom hvgged me ti-ght again,
“Dad that police man, I don’t trust him, I told him before it will sl!pmy memory.
“Me too, I will look into his case tomorrow, my dad said.

“Where are we going to now? I asked.
“The woman offered to take us In and she has been waiting. Talk to her, my dad replied and was about calling the woman whose husband died but her call entered which I picked up.

“What’s the situation there? She asked immediately.
“Good morning ma, I said.

“Joan? Oh my God Joan you’re safe? She shouted.
“Yes ma and we are on the way, I replied.

“Oh plea-se do I have been waiting, she said.
“We’ll be there soon, my dad and I dropped the call and smiled keeping my head on my mom che-st.

“Joan they tĀ©uƧhed your face, what happened? My mom asked still with a sad look. She’s one mother who is so concerned about her children skin more than anything in the world. And my skin especially my face was designed with bruises.
“Mom she’s tired, let’s find shelter first, my brother said.

“Dear we all have questions to ask her, but not now okay, my dad said referring to my mom and she heaved.
“Okay okay, she said tou-ching my hair.

“Dad who helped out when the betrayer attacked? I asked.
“I can’t tell, he just appeared with a car and sh0t him and drove off. He saved us big time because we were not expecting such a thing not even Steve, my dad replied.

“Dad whats the colour of the car? I asked.
“Red, my brother replied and my mouth flew opened.

“What is it? my mom asked and i raised my head from my mom.
“Ebuka, he helped out after saving me from them. He was the one who told me to tell you to leave, looks like there was a plan all along, I replied.

“Is that so? My brother asked.
“But he left me on the road, it must be him who c@mĀ£ around to check on you, I said and the pains from my back began.

“Are you okay? My mom asked when she noticed the change on my face.
“Mom I nee-d to be checked, I was hit on my spine, i replied.

“What! My brother shouted.
“Oh my God! What did they do to you! My mom began to cry that i regretted i told her in the first place.

“Mom plea-se don’t start, its not like I’m dying, I said………
