✏Allison’s POV✏
I tossed, digging my index f!ngersinto my ears. A grumble pas-sed throu-gh myl-ips as I gr@bb£d a pillow, mumbled a slight complain and threw it towards the direction of my small dressing table.. Still hearing the now annoying tune that somehow itches my ears, I realized that I had missed my target..
I buried my face in the be-dsheets, inhaling the rosy smell; I stifled a light yawn half sleepily and r0ûghly pu-ll-ed the duvet over me before sitting up.. My eyes half closed, I scanned my room like I was expecting some changes but it all hit me back with the same old familiarity, well except that today; I was getting up extremely early. I let out a low pitched squeak of frustration..
🎤Beauty sleep is over
Get on your feet.. It’s time to start a new day..🎤
I shut it up with a snap before it could go on.. So annoying!
I yawned again, audibly this time as I stretched.. My gaze went to my be-d and I felt a great urge to go back to it’s comfort but damn…setting an alarm for the first time in a long time just so I could be reminded to wake up early and having to practically pu-ll myself off the be-d took tons of my energy and I’m not letting it go down the drain. I glanced at the time ‘5:45’.. I sighed before sli-pping my feet into my flops, I walked out of my room to the bathroom and after checking out the bags un-der my eyes and messy hair, sticking out here and there.. I gr@bb£d my toothbrush and started with my teeth.

I journeyed to the living room and just as I stepped on the small stairs, I sighted dad at the little corner we had saved in our small parlor for a designated dinning table.. We only had to stick a small wooden table and two chairs to get what we want; it somehow took half of the whole space.
“Morning dad” I greeted my dad who was having breakfast at the dinning room, backing me.
“Morning princess” he answered, only tilting his head to my direction and tossing his half chewed food to a side of his cheek to talk better. “How was your night?” He asked, the soggy food in his mouth almost dropping.
“The same. plea-se swallow your food up first before you keep talking” I said, moving to the kitchen that was only few step from the dinning.. Just as you guessed, it’s a small room too.. We couldn’t move in all the stuffs from our old kitchen in here so we just took in the very important ones while dad gave out the rest..
Why we moved in will be a story for another day..
“Sorry honey” dad apologized, dropping down his glas-s of water.
I didn’t bother asking about mom, obviously she had left very early for work as usual, after leaving tons of work for me of course.
“You’re up quite early today, going somewhere?”
“Yeah, I had to set up my irking alarm to remind me about waking up early and doing all my works” I said, throwing fries into a plate..
“You mean grocery shopping?”
“Mm-hm and the laundry too, you know how disappointing the electricity can be, plus the supermarket get too occu-pied for a proper shopping when it’s past daytime and considering the long hours trekking ahead of me, I have to go early” I said, walking to the dinning with my plate of fries.
“It’ll be over soon hon, I plan on getting you that bike once I get payment” dad said and I nodded in response, tilting my head here and there to sight the ketchup..
“Where’s the ketchup?” I asked, dropping my gaze back at dad.
“Oh Mrs Orlando lent it this morning to use, she promised to return it soon.. I would’ve asked her to bring it early but I didn’t think you’ll be having breakfast with me” he said.
Yeah, that’s not surprising.. Here in Lonatown, everything’s borrow-able especially if you have super poor neighbors. It won’t baffle me if they start asking for un-derwears or maybe they have but just haven’t asked us cos there’s no one here with their (sizes)..
This town’s like the poorest town ever and from what I heard, they’re trying to make it better than now but then I wonder when that’ll ever happen cos it keeps getting worse by the day.
I took a fry to my mouth, munching it slowly.. Dad stood up with his empty plate and walked to the kitchen, I heard running water after..
“Oh plea-se let me go Roderick, I..didn’t take your money, I swear. I’ll never steal from you!” A familiar voice filled with sobriety, fear and honesty reached my ears and I nee-ded no soothsayer to tell me that the Martin’s were at it again, I rolled my eyes.
Suddenly there was a loud ban-g, as if something was hit then a loud painful cry accompanied it before shouts followed..
A really heated argument.
Dad rushed out of his room with his work briefcase..
“It must be the Martin’s” he announced..
“I know. Who knows what’s going on this time, that drun!kseem to find something new everyday just to l@yhis dirty smelly hands on Mrs Rosa. His sight alone make me nauseous, I wonder why she still put up with all his abuses” I said in disgust, chewing a mouthful of egg with a little un-interest.
This is one reason why I don’t fancy early breakfast, I prefer brunches because by then the maniac drun!kmust’ve gone to wherever bar to stuff his face in intoxicating drinks and all the borrowed stuffs must’ve been returned and my breakfast-lunch won’t be as bad as this.
“I’ll go find out what’s happening this time” dad said, moving to me to k!ssmy cheeks.
“Be careful with thieves on your journey” he said and I nodded.
“Bye dad” I said dryly as he walked to the door.
I ignored the loud noises from my frustrating next door neighbors and focused myself on my food.
🏵🏵🏵🏵🏵

I walked into the medium sized grocery sto-re and without talking to anyone I walked over to the shopping cart stand and gr@bb£d one before going along with the other few shoppers to shop.. I shopped quic-kly, stuffing food stuffs and beverages into the trolley so I can leave quic-k before this place gets too crowded.. You surely can’t escape thieves when that happens and the looks of pitiable stinky beggars.
I walked over to the payment stand and got my goods recorded, calculated and packed, I tossed bills from my wallet at the lady and she handed me a receipt before sighing back into her seat.. She was obviously exhausted; with a job like this, who wouldn’t be?
I gr@bb£d my bag, a big shopping bag tied ti-ghtly with a string at the t©p and walked out of the sto-re..
I started my journey back home, my bag ti-ghtly gr!pp£din my palm. I took a turn, looking at the few old automobiles running throu-gh the raggedy lane of the road, I journeyed on the pavement before getting to a rou-gh street with ugly houses and muddy road.. The melodic tune of my ringing phone st©pped me in my track, I moved to aside to a safer sp©t and reached for my phone in my purse, I checked the caller and swiped to the receiver.
“Dad?”
“Ally are you back from the market?”
“I’m on my way back, why?”I asked.
“Can you give me a call when you get home, I nee-d you to give some money to Mrs Rogers” he said.
“Um okay”
“Alright bye–
I had ba-rely raised the phone from my ear when I felt a heavy pu-ll from my hand, my f!nger joint got sprained in the process and almost immediately, my bag was j£rked and a figure ran past me.
Not tending to my injured f!nger and pouting a cuss I ran after the thief, tossing my phone into my p@n-t pocket.. I increa-sed my speed and yelled as I ran..
This isn’t my first robbery experience in this small town and normally I’ll just let it go considering the importance of the bag’s content but this one doesn’t only have very important items, it also had my wallet and dad’s ATM.. I can’t misplace that.
Knowing the thief wouldn’t be able to escape that fast considering the weight of the bag, I had to keep chasing after him.
“Hey! St©p there, you thief!” I yelled, turning sharply after him..
“Someb©dy st©p him! He’s a thief!” I yelled, pointing my index f!nger at him.. There was no one in sight and the thief was getting away pretty fast than I had envisioned..
I was still on the race when I suddenly tr!pp£don a big stone that I had no idea was there, my toe got injured and began bleeding immediately while my p@n-ts got stained by the mud..
Sighing in pain and tiredness, I let out a quic-k hiss of pain and pu-ll-ed myself up, running after him again.
“Hey! St©p there! You bag thief!” I yelled, my voice suddenly failing me; but he kept running fas-ter.. After the long race, which continued for what seems like hours my steps were doddering ra-pidly but I kept pushing myself forward and using the rest of my strength to yell out for help..
Almost like a flash, a figure zoomed past me swiftly almost ma-king me loose my balance but as I regained myself and looked ahead, I sight a guy accurately st©p the thief after letting him fall over his skillfully set out leg, my grocery bag fell right after him and some of the content fell out…

I could see the thief trying to get away but the other guy quic-kly gr@bb£d him by the collar and pinned him to an helpless state.
My eyes grew wi-de and an oh popped out of mouth as I dragged myself to them, getting to where they were, I packed up my grocery bag and arranged the fallen items in it before checking for my wallet and the card in it.. Sighing in satisfaction, I glared at the thief who had sustained a mild scratch on his face, obviously from the fall and I took him by the collar from the other guy and raised my fist to give him a punch but halfway I st©pped myself and watched as the bag stealer swiftly ducked and hid his face like someone who wasn’t new to being punched by others, I stared de-eply at his face and noticed the dried wounds, red bu-mps and f!nger marks on his face, a vertical scar ran from his temple to the lower p@rt of his ear and his eyes were sunken, my fist slowly fell beside me.. Seeing me st©p he went on his knee, tears clouding his sight..
“plea-se forgive me miss! Don’t report me to the police.. I’m sorry I took your bag! plea-se don’t take me to jail!” He begged, ru-bbing his two jammed palms together violently, a tear fell from his eyes.
I stared at him for a while, mixed feelings engulfing my heart.. Pity replacing anger, unruffled, I rolled my ba-lls at him.
“plea-se miss.. I only nee-ded the apple, I didn’t mean to steal from you.. My family are hungry. I’m not a thief miss, plea-se believe me” he begged and slowly I let go of his collar.
“Why did you do it?”
“I-I-I nee-ded to get food for my family. My boss wouldn’t pay me for my work a-and my children are starving. I’m so sorry miss” he begged, using the hem of his cloth to wipe his itching nose bridge.
“Get up” I said and he stood up, giving me a questioning stare.
I reached into my bag and pu-ll-ed out some of the items in it.. I held them and stretched the items to me.. He first stared numbly at me before gr-abbing the items from me and bowing down in appreciation, his forehead jamming the ground repeatedly as he uttered words of thanks. He raised his head up, gratitude obvious in his gaze and was about bowing again but I st©pped him, before helping him up.
“That’s enough, I believe this should be able to sustain your family until you get your payment from your boss” I said and he nodded.
“Thanks you very much miss” he said, happily.
“Now I better not catch you stealing again, else I’ll take you to jail myself” I warned and he nodded ra-pidly. “You can go now” I said and he stood up, held the stuffs well and dashed off.
I stared ahead as he went out of sight before I gr@bb£d my bag, re-ady to continue my journey on this unknown road when I heard a loud clearing of throat beside me.
“Don’t a deserve even a word of thank” I st©pped on my track, pla-ying everything back from the scratch then it hit me.. I totally forgot he was still here.
I slowly turned to him..
“Sorry I um–
The rest of my words trailed off, as my gaze caught the a face I hadn’t seen in a very long while, His ocean blue eyes stared down at me, obviously waiting for me to continue my words but I could only gulp, my gaze not leaving his speechlessly good looking face..
“Are you okay, miss?” His voice filled my ears, sounding like sweet music. My head said yes but my mouth wouldn’t move so I just nodded instead.
“You know what, why don’t you save the words and thank me by taking a walk with me?”
I coughed drily, gulping down nothing…
“I’m Jonas” my gaze went to his out stretched hand and then back at his face “what’s your name?”

✏Allison’s POV✏
.
He raised a questioning brow at me when I said nothing nor took his palm..
He might be good looking but he’s still a total stranger, that’s a fact.
His hand slowly dropped to his side.
“He would’ve gotten away if you hadn’t st©pped him, thank you!” I said, f0rç£fully pushing my mind off his good looks.
Good looks can be deceptive, Bob taught me that and here I am, falling for it again.
I’m so unbelievable sometimes.
I picked my bag from the ground, re-ady to find my way home.

“What about my proposal?” He asked before I could take a step.
“I believe I’ve thanked you enough, or would you rather I pay cash?” I asked, ma-king my stare blank.
“Ow! That was unexpected,” he said, tucking his palm into the pockets of his fitting sweatp@n-t.
“I see you’re not the kind that tells her name to certain people-

“Strangers,” I corrected “Although, I’m really grateful for your help” I added, trying not to be too rude but if I get too sweet with this guy, I might end up falling into his cute-tra-ps and probably have another Bob experience.

“Right!” He smiled “but how about a walk?” He asked.

“A walk?” I repeated, giving him a questioning look. “Are you new around here?” I asked.

“If by new you mean two days ago then yes. I’m here on a brief vacation” he said.

A vacation? In Lonatown? Of all amazing places, he chose this wretched town??
Hearing that makes him seem more deceptive to me..

“Sorry for prying but you searched and chose to come to this town for a vacation?” I asked, curiously.

“It’s really moderate around here but the vacation stuff wasn’t my idea, it’s a work thing” he said and I muttered an ‘oh’.
“I haven’t really seen much of this town, I plan to though,” he said, looking around quic-kly. “And you look quite messy, if you don’t mind you could clean up at my place, it’s just few walks from here”

“Your place?” I repeated suspiciously, then gave him a straight face. “Thanks but no thanks, I’ll be fine!” I expound, trying to take a step forward and away from him but the pain from my toe, intensified, s£nding me to a halt and re-leasing a hiss of pain from myl-ips.

“See? You chased that dude for minutes, you should be far from your destination but my Lodge is just over there. I don’t think you’ll be able to walk for long if you don’t clean that up” he said, referring to my legs and smiling slightly. I glanced at where he referred to and sight a h0tel at a distance.

A h0tel? Seriously.. isn’t that where bad stuffs happen?

“Don’t bother, I’ll take a cab” I replied him plainly.
“You won’t find one around here,” he said as I backed him, in an attempt to walk away, I tilt my head backward, giving him a look. “Trust me, I’ve been here long enough to know that” he said. “You can come with me!”
“I’m not following you to your h0tel room, mister”

“It’s Jonas” he said.
“Whatever.. And you should st©p insisting I follow you and mind your business when someone doesn’t want your supposed help” I said.
“If you’re scared I might do something belittling to you then I could leave the door wi-de open for you-
“What do you want from me?” I interrupted him.
“I just want to help you, nothing more” he said and I searched his gaze for his motive but I found nothing, he’s doing a good job hiding it.

“And I can’t refuse it?” I asked.
“Well, you could-
“Then I have, I don’t want your help a second time. Thanks again for earlier but I think our meeting should end here” I said.
“Okay then, if you insist” he said, his smile fading a little.

He’s right, I probably do look messy a bit but if he thinks it’ll make me follow him to his h0tel room then he must be a joker..
I gave him a more observing look, he’s doing well hiding his emotions.
Ignoring the pricking pain at my toe that affected the rest of my leg, I turned and tried limping, clinging onto the bag in my palm but I guess the whole weight overthrew me and I lost my balance, falling.
A slow cry escape from myl-ips and halfway I saw myself hanging and something soft clinging to my skin to keep me in place..
I slowly stood on my feet, giving him a low look.
“So?” He shrugged.
“We leave the door open?” I found myself asking, much to my disappointment and fallen-pride.
He smiled. “Sure! I could carry you if you want”
I gave him a frown and he laughed, it was annoying yet beautiful.
“Just kidding. C’mon, I’ll help you with that” he took my bag before I could oppose. Well, I couldn’t carry it anyways so I let him do it.
As he walked, I found out my I couldn’t properly lift my injured leg and it caused me to limp.. He c@m£ to me and his arm sn-ked around my w@!st, I stilled at the unexpected t©uçh but as if feeling no effect, he pu-ll-ed me closer to himself..

“Let me help you” he offered and I nodded, suddenly speechless.
Shouldn’t permission be granted before action..
Somehow I knew I shouldn’t trust this dude but then again, I had to, at least for an hour or more..
****

“This would hurt a little” he said and before I could get prepared, he applied the soa-ked cotton wool on my toe. Caught unaware; I let out a small cry before shutting my eyes ti-ghtly and b!tt!g my lower l!pto muffle the cry, my palms curling to ti-ght fists beside me.
I felt the wool go off my toe but the pain didn’t as it bit de-ep but gradually it suppressed and I opened my eyes slowly to find him smiling..
“For a girl who fearlessly chased a thief, I didn’t think iodine should hurt you that much” he said and I gave him a glare, not replying to his taunt.

He wra-pped the wound up, the blood had st©pped and the pain wasn’t as b!tt!g as before, plus I could walk now.
“Thank you” I said, feeling a bit shy that I had almost ignored his kind offer. He had not only treated my wound, he had also let me use his bathroom and clean up the mess on my p@n-ts after I refuse his offer to change into one of his p@n-ts. “I feel much better now!”

“You’re welcome” he gave me a gentle smile.
I almost drowned in it but my ringing phone thankfully caught me half way, I quic-kly collected it and saw it was Dad..
“Ally, are you home alre-ady?” He asked.
“No, not yet. I sort of got into a mess on my way but I’m out now, I should be home in about twenty minutes” I said, reaching for my bag.
“Oh..thank goodness! plea-se be careful and call me when you get home, don’t forget, okay?” He asked.
“Sure!” I answered and he ended the call.
“I have to go now” I told him..
“I could drop you at your place if you want”

Okay, this kindness; surely can’t be ordinary.
“Thanks for the offer, but I’m fine on my own” I said.
He nodded wryly.
“Oh well.. if you say so but can I at least get a name? I’m afraid I won’t be seeing you again since I’ll be leaving this town today” He said and just immediately, his phone rang, gladly interrupting us..
He excused himself to answer it and I quic-kly used that opportunity, gr@bb£d my bag and head of his room.
I got to the exterior of the building and began walking fast, scanning around for a cab and fortunately my legs didn’t hinder me.
I was able to sight a cab at a corner and I quic-kly hailed it, it drove to me and I got in immediately before giving my destination to him.
As the ride lengthened, I couldn’t help but start to guilty about the way I left without his notice..
He had said he’d be leaving today and we won’t be crossing path, I felt relieved and at the same time disturbe-d about it. I should’ve at least told him my name but somehow I still feel skeptical about him..
Well, we won’t be seeing again, it’d have been useless knowing anything about ourselves anyways and I’d get over this unexplainable feeling.

After some minutes, the cab pu-ll-ed up at my place and I paid and climbe-d down, gr-abbing my bag as I did. I walked into the house and first chvgged down a bottle of water from the kitchen after dropping the bags on the cabinet.
I glanced at the time, it was alre-ady noon so I went out and picked the laundry from the line.. I had quic-kly done it before leaving for the market.
I checked my to-do list and sighed when I realised, I had only two chores left. I made a sandwich for lunch and ate it up right there in the kitchen before gr-abbing my phone to call Dad..
“Hey honey, are you home?” He asked.
“Yes!” I replied.
“Great. I left some money on the shelf , They’re for Mrs Rogers, she called me earlier that she isn’t home now but she’ll be coming for it anytime soon, give it to her when she comes” he said.
“Okay, I will” I answered “were you able to get your pay?”
“Not yet, our boss seem kind of tense today. Is your mom home for her break yet?” He asked.
“No but she should be in a few minutes, I have stuffs to do now, so I’m hanging up” I said.
“Of course, bye” dad said and I hung up. I walked back to the kitchen, quic-kly cleaned up and did the dishes, I made some herbal tea for mom; she always takes it instead of coffee cos of her constant slight illness.
And just incase your wondering, my mom works in a bakery, the only bakery in Lonatown and she’s sometimes given a break at noon while dad works as a gardener in a mansion that’s a little farther from Lonatown, the salary wouldn’t have benefited that much if dad didn’t have an old truck that he uses to transport himself.

That aside, I began unloading the grocery items in my bag and arranging them in the sto-re and refrigerator, depending on what it was. As I took out a pack of raw meat, a paper fell with it and curiously, I picked it up..
It was a short paper with a phone number in it and a small note.
**Hey, it’s me, Jonas. And that’s my digit since I knew I wouldn’t be able to get yours. I’m not harmful, you would’ve noticed that and I don’t have any bad intentions either, so would you plea-se give me a call? It’d mean a lot to me and I will be expecting it greatly I know your pretty heart wouldn’t want to turn my harmless want down. You can hide your number if you want**
How did he manage to sl!pthis into the bag, probably when I was washing up or when I had shut my eyes. I stared at the number, contemplating. I left it aside and finished unpacking the bag, I walked out to finish up with the rest of my work.
By the time I was done, i felt slightly worn out. I walked to the kitchen and poured myself some milk from the bottle, I drank it up, feeling better; I washed the cu-p and as I turned to head to the living room, I saw the note and I took it up, walking to the living room with it..

His line began ringing and nervously I bit on my lowerl-ip, rolling the hem of my dress on my index f!nger.. I didn’t know what made me take the decision of calling and at the same time not ending it immediately..
I had the chance to but I couldn’t, it could’ve been too late alre-ady anyways.. I’m at a dead end now, since it’s ringing..
At the extended, I got more nervous. He sure did seem harmless but at a time harmful or probably not..
Geez.. what’s wrong with me and why is he not answering the call?
Is he not with his phone?
Gosh! Why did I even call? I should’ve..
“Hello” the sudden answer made me j£rk, but there was something off about the voice.
“Um hello-
“who is this?” The impatient voice cut me off, I could guess irritation went with it but then again.. it wasn’t his voice.
It was a female’s..
