Add up U.S. Bah

As the hour’s ticked by, and still no word on
Frankie, Ricco bec@mยฃ more agitated. He was
paying big bucks on finding her. It wasn’t the
money he cared about, it was the fact that
there was no word yet. The surveillance tapes
from the h0tel were blank, just like the night
before when she was attacked.
It was getting late, as he sat on the sofa,
exhausted, closed his eyes. Bernardo sat on
the other sofa, watching Ricco.
He was never really close to Ricco, his brother
was older than himself. As soon as he was old
enough moved out of their father’s home,
moved to America. He c@mยฃ back once or
twice a year to check on his investment in the
winery. He had to admire Ricco, with his
profits he invested wisely in real estate in
America, he also got into software, where he
made billions. He was in his own right a self-
made billionaire.
Though there was an eight-year difference
between them, they looked remarkably alike,
except Ricco was taller and more muscular.
Bernardo often thought if he himself worked
out more he could have the same bยฉdy and
shape. But he didn’t care, he got as much, if
not more tail than Ricco had.
He snapped out of his thoughts when there
was a loud knock at the door. Ricco jumped
up and sprinted over, flinging it open. Two
men walked in, one was carrying a bag, they
were the two men Ricco had hired.
“Well?” He snapped at the men. “Did you find
anything?”
The men seemed nervous to Bernardo, he
couldn’t blame them. His brother could be very
intimid@t!ng, harsh.
“Do you recognize these Sir?” The smaller of
the two men asked.
Ricco gr@bbยฃd the bag and pu-ll-ed out what
was inside. Bernardo saw how his eyes teared
up when he held and looked at the pink
sweater, and there was only one shoe. Both
items were soaking we-t.
“Where did you find these?” He asked, his
voice cracking.
“Floating in the water, down at the beach. I’m
sorry sir, we believe she’s dead.”
The poor man found himself pinned up against
the door as Ricco yelled. “Shut the fvยขk up,
she’s not dead, do you hear me?”
The man shook his head. “Yes Sir, I hear you.”
Ricco re-leased him and walked away, stยฉpping
and turned back. “My wife is alive, keep
searching and don’t stยฉp till you find her. Get
more men on the case, as many as you can.”
Bernardo saw the men out and then went and
sat next to his brother. “Ricco, if someone has
taken her they would have asked for a ransom
by now. Maybe you should accept the fact that
she’s gone.”
He held the damp sweater in his hand, and the
shoe. He knew it was her favorite, she bought
it in Veg@s with her winnings off the slot
machine. He remembered how excited she was
when she won. He also remembered that night
of lovema-king, it was so intense and
pas-sionate. It was then he knew he was falling
in love with her.
Ricco stared at Bernardo. “She’s alive. I don’t
know what happened, but I know I’ll find her
and the people responsible for taking her. And
when I do I will kill them with my ba-re hands.”
The hairs on the back of Bernardo’s nยฃยขk
stood up. He believed Ricco would do exactly
that. “Ricco, close your eyes, try to sleep, and
for god’s sake stยฉp drinking so much.”
Bernardo found his own eyes closing and was
soon asleep. Waking up he looked at the clock
on the wall, he had sle-pt for two hours. An
empty bottle of scotch sat on the table. Damn
he thought, Ricco drank the whole damn bottle.
He went looking for him, he was not pas-sed
out in the be-droom, or the bathroom. He
noticed the balcony door open and walked out.
Stยฉpping in horror at what he was looking at.
Ricco was standing on the edge, wavering.
“Ricco, what are you doing up there? Get down
before you fall, we’re on the tยฉp floor damn it.”
“Oh Bernardo, maybe they are right. Maybe she
is dead, and our innocent child.”
Bernardo’s heart was racing, fear growing every
second as Ricco swayed. “Ricco come down
plea-se.”
He looked over his shoulder at Bernardo.
“Why? What’s the point of living without my
Frankie?”
“Ricco, no woman is worth taking your life
over, plea-se, come down.” He begged.
He looked over at Bernardo. “Frankie is. I
tricked her into marrying me, then f0rรงยฃd her to
stay, threatening to take her grandmother’s
home away. But I’d fallen for her. She is sweet,
kind, smart and funny. I hope someday you’ll
find that special person to love and love you
back.”
Bernardo was beginning to sweat, his lung
bur-sting as he held his breath. Ricco was
teetering closer to the edge, his balance
unsteady from the amount of alcohol he had
drank. He edged closer, silently so as not to
spook Ricco. “Maybe she’s alive, you’ll never
know if you jump, do you really want to leave
her a widow with a child?”
“My life is pointless without her, I failed her.
I’m Frankie’s husband and should have kept
her safe.”
When Ricco’s foot left the ledge and he
teetered Barnardo let out a blood curdling
scream. “Ricco no.”

Add me U.S. Bah

Frankie stirred, her head hurt and she felt sick
to her stomach. Once her eyes focused she
sat up and looked around. Finding herself on a
be-d in a small room, getting up went to the
door on shaky legs. It was locked, she began
pounding on it, crying out. “Let me out, plea-se,
let me out.”
It was getting her nowhere so she went to the
window and tried to look out. But it was also
locked. She explored the small room, there
was a small bathroom with a shower. The
room was ba-re except for the be-d, a table, and
chair. A plate with sandwiches and milk sat on
the table, there was also some fruit. She
searched frantically for something to use in the
lock, a nail file, a pin, anything, but ther was
nothing.
She couldn’t help it, she sat down and cried.’
Where are you, Ricco?’ She yelled out loud.
If it weren’t for the fact that she was pregnant
she wouldn’t have tยฉuรงhed the food. But for
her baby’s sake, she would try to keep some
food down. Frankie had never been this scared
before, the last thing she remembered was two
men charging at her and putting something
over her mouth.
Laying on the be-d she cried, her bยฉdy shaking.
She knew Ricco would find her, that was what
she told herself. Her mind kept going over
reasons as to why this was happening to her.
It wasn’t Ricco’s doing, he loved her and was
so happy about the baby. Something told her it
was his family behind this, but why?
Frankie didn’t know when she fell asleep but
was woken when the door opened. Sitting up
she watched as a tall woman with pitch-black
hair walked in. She was quite beautiful, her
brea-sts hvge, the tยฉp she wore ba-rely covered
them, her hair done up on tยฉp of her head,
held by fancy pins.
Frankie could only stare, no words would come
out. It was if her voice had disappeared and
she waited for the woman to speak.
She spoke English, with a thick Italian accent.
“You do not look like Ricco’s type, a skinny
white girl. What could he possibly see in you?”
Frankie was finally able to find her courage to
speak. “Where am I?”
The woman laughed. “Don’t worry, you’ll be
safe here, for the time being.”
“Who are you? Why are you keeping me here?”
She yelled as she got up from the be-d.
“My name is Maria Bartolomei. As to where
you are, that is not important. What’s important
is that you eat and take care of the baby.”
“Maria, the one Ricco’s family wants him to
marry. He’s married to me, you can’t have him,
and when he finds out you’re keeping me here
he’ll kill you.”
“Oh, honey,” Maria said with an evil grin. “He
thinks you’re dead. And since he is grieving I’ll
go and console him. It won’t be long till I have
him as my husband.”
“You’re insane, I’m alive.” Frankie cried.
“Not for long, once the baby is born you’ll no
longer be nee-ded.”
Frankie felt the cold chill run throu-gh her.
“What-what are you talking about? What are
you planning on doing with my baby?”
“Don’t worry, the baby will be taken care of.
Now I think it’s time to give Ricco a visit, let
him know I’m back in town.”
Pushing past Maria she opened the door but
was stยฉpped by a hvge man, he dragged her
back in and flung her onto the be-d.
Maria got up close and swore. “If you try that
again you little bit-ch I’ll have you chained to
the be-d.”
When she turned to leave Frankie reached up.
gr-abbing Maria by the hair, pu-lling till her hair
fell loose, falling down over her shoulders. The
other woman sl@pped Frankie’s face, ma-king
her stagger back, falling to the floor.
“Now look what you did, I’ll have to fix my hair
before I can go see Ricco.” She laughed as she
walked out, locking the door behind her.
Frankie sat on the floor, opening her hand and
looking at the pin she had managed to pu-ll out
of Maria’s hair. Going over she starts poking it
in the lock, trying desperately to unlock the
door, it worked in the movies. Hoping with all
her heart that it would also work in real life.

Back at the h0tel, Bernardo managed to gr-ab
Ricco and pu-ll him from the ledge. They both
landed on the ground, struggling. Since Ricco
was bigger and stronger than Bernardo he was
able to push him off. Climbing back on the
ledge Bernardo yelled out as he la-id on the
ground. “She’s alive Ricco, I know where she
is.”
Ricco stยฉpped, turned and looked at his
brother. The anger that flashed across his face
scared Bernardo, never had he seen such anger
and hate in Ricco’s eyes in all his life.
Going to Bernardo’s side picked him up my
the scruff of his collar. “What did you say?
Where is she? Tell me or I swear I’ll kill you.”
“She’s being held captive. They have her at
Bartolomei castle. I’m sorry Ricco, I’ll tell you
everything.”
“What? Is Maria’s in on this too? And the
other’s, father and Adriana. My God, you’re all
sick.” Ricco screamed as he got up and
hurried inside. “I’m going to get her, God help
anyone who tries to stยฉp me.”
“Ricco, wait. You can’t drive, you’re drun!k. Let
me drive you and on the way, I’ll tell you
everything.”
He gives his brother a look of disgust. “I know
what it’s all about, with Frankie out of the way
Father thinks I’ll marry Maria. Has he not
enough money now? Does this merger mean
that much to him?”
“Oh brother, there is so much more to it than
that. Come, let’s go get your wife, I’ll tell you
on the way there.”
