Iris’s Pov:
“Iris! Iris!!” Chris tapped me gently and that sma-cked me into consciousness.
I exhaled heavily.
I’ve been day dreaming all these while 😇
I scratched my head…
I just hope what I was dreaming of never happens.
“Why am I here Chris?” I asked him
Fear gr!pp£dme as I thought of what I daydreamed about.
“I want you Iris Salvador! That’s why you are here…” Chris laughed
I rolled my eyes in annoyance.
“You know Mr Christ©pher Ramirez! I un-derstand you that you get whatever you want but am sorry to disappoint you, you won’t get me” I said confidently
“How about we negotiate” He sm-irked as I furrowed my eyebrows.
The nerve of that fool…. 😬😬
What does he think I am? 🙃
“Negotiate? You must be an idiot for saying that?” I said angrily
“Listen Iris! I can give you any amount of money you want… Just name it!” Chris laughed
“Go to hell with your money! Cos I know there are spaces for heartless animals like you” I yelled as I got up and picked up my handbag.
I turned to leave but he held my hand…
“Iris! Where are you going to?” He asked
I scoffed…
“What a question?” I rolled my eyes
“Isn’t it obvious? Am going home Mr Christ©pher Ramirez” I said
“You know our deal right?” He sm-irked
“What deal?” I asked coldly
“OK! How about I talk to your sister, just for two minutes….” He grinned
My heart sank😧😧
Oh no! Tina shouldn’t find out that am a call girl.
She’s really gonna be shattered!
I love her so much and I don’t want her life to be destroyed.
She can’t find out am a social worker.
Thoughts filled my mind as I gently sat down.

He bur-st into laughter ma-king me look stupid.
I quic-kly cleaned my tears and stared at him in anger.
“What’s funny?” I yelp angrily
“You are funny Iris… If I can leave you then I would have done that a long time ago” He said as I bur-st into tears.

I opened my eyes and saw a handkerchief on the table in front of me.
“Clean your eyes Iris” He said and this time he wasn’t laughing.
I sluggishly picked up the handkerchief and mopped my eyes with it.
Why is he suddenly being nice? 🤔
“You can go now Iris! I don’t want to see you crying” He said and I g@sped in surprise.
Did he just say that? 🙄
When did he become human? 🤔
I smiled at him and he air k!$$£d me.

“Thank you Chris… We will remain friends” I said and he win-ked at me.
I turned to leave and g@sped in shock.
I saw someone pointing a gun directly at Chris.
“CHRIS!” I screamed as I hvgged him ti-ghtly.
And the gun was sh0t loudly.
Tina’s Pov:
I was in the kitchen preparing dinner.
I was busy with slicing of tomatoes when suddenly, I got cut by the knife.
Blood gush out of my f!nger.
“Ouch!” I said in pain
Immediately, the land telephone rang noisly.
I quic-kly picked it up.
☎ Hello… I said softly
☎ Is this Tina Salvador speaking plea-se? A man’s voice said
☎ Yes! How may I help you? I asked anxiously
☎ Well am Christ©pher Ramirez! Your sister Iris was just rushed to the hospital, she was sh0t…. The man said in tears
☎ No! She went on a d@t£… She has not been sh0t… How? When? Where?… I broke down in tears.
As aunt Glenda rushed into the kitchen, she took the telephone from me as I slumped to the ground in tears.
☎ Who’s this? Am Glenda! Iris’s friend… Aunt Glenda said
☎ Glenda! It’s Christ©pher Ramirez… Your friend was rushed to the hospital, she was sh0t! St Andrews hospital… He said as aunt Glenda nodded in tears.

I ban-ged the door and locked it as aunt Glenda and I rushed out of the ap@rtment.
We flagged down a cab and hopped in.
I couldn’t st©p crying…
Tears kept running down my face…
Why must it be Iris?
She’s my only hope!
The only relation I have…
I don’t know what to do without her….
I wailed bitterly as I kept praying within me.
I thought it was a d@t£? But why is she now in the hospital? 😭
FEW MINUTES LATER….
We rushed into the hospital.
We saw Chris walking restlessly…
“Chris! How is she?” Glenda asked
“She’s still in the emergency room, she’s un-dergoing surgery to take out the bullet” Chris said in tears
“What happened to my sister? Why was she sh0t? Who did she wrong?” I cried bitterly
“Tina plea-se calm down!” Glenda patted my hair.
“No! Let go of me!! Tell me Mr Christ©pher… Why was my sister sh0t?” I asked
“She took the bullet for me! She saved me!!” Chris said as my eyes wi-de-ned in shock.
“What?” Glenda and I said in shock
Just then, the doctor c@m£ out of the emergency room and we rushed to her.
“Doctor! How is she?” we asked in unison
“We have bad and good news” The doctor said
“What do you mean doctor?” Chris asked
“The good news is that the surgery was successful” The doctor said as we exhaled in relief.
“And the bad news is that….” The doctor said
“Is that what?” I cried impatiently.
“She has gone into a comatose state” the doctor said and we g@sped…

Tina’s Pov:
We walked into the ward.
Iris was lying lifelessly on the be-d.
Tears welled down my chubby cheeks.
“Iris! plea-se get up alre-ady” I wailed bitterly
“Tina st©p crying… She will get better soon” Aunt Glenda said in tears.
“Yes Tina! Your sister is a fighter” Chris said.
“I can’t live without her.. I don’t think I can stay without Iris! She’s my everything” I cried
“She’s not going anywhere Tina! She’s here all the time” Glenda said.
“Get up Iris! You said you wanted vegetable sauce right? I prepared it! That’s your favorite sister plea-se wake up!” I cried
“That’s enough Tina plea-se” Chris said in tears.
“Who are you to my sister Mr Christ©pher? Why would she take a bullet for you?” I asked
“Uhmm… I know this is all my fault I…” Chris said
“That doesn’t answer my question! I said who are you to my sister?” I asked
“Actually am her stalke…” Chris said
“He’s her b©yfri£nd” Aunt Glenda said as she exchanged glances with Chris.
I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion.
“So my sister has a b©yfri£nd? How come I don’t know about it?” I thought
“Tina! Tina!! Wake up!!” Aunt Glenda shook me gently.
I quic-kly opened my eyes.
I glanced at the wall clock…
It was alre-ady past two pm, I yawned hungrily.
I haven’t had anything to eat since morning.
I’ve been sitting here close to Iris and watching her motionless.
I wish she could just open her eyes and let’s go home.
But she’s in a coma 😭
“Come on Tina! Let’s go get something to eat at the cafeteria” Aunt Glenda said sma-cking me back to consciousness.
“Am not going to leave her side! Am not hungry” I lied
“Oh plea-se Tina! Just get up.. I know you are hungry” aunt Glenda said as she dragged me up and we walked out of the ward.
Chris’s Pov:
I watched Iris lie on the be-d lifelessly and tears rushed down my cheeks.
I don’t know that I could cry because of a woman.
I never knew what it means to fall in love until I met you Iris.
And now that am supposed to be happy with you, this had to happen.
But why?
She saved me!
She took a bullet for me to live.
After all the problems I caused her.
She still wants me to live.
She was kind enough to think my welfare..
She never hated or abhor me.
Oh my dearest Iris! plea-se wake up….
No matter what Iris! I will always be by your side cos you worth it.

Darkness enveloped the earth but I didn’t leave the hospital.
Glenda walked in alone without Tina.
“Uhm… Chris! Tina and I have to go home, she has clas-ses tomorrow” Glenda said
“That’s OK” I said
“You know you haven’t told me how my friend was sh0t?” Glenda said
“Yeah! But believe me Glenda I don’t even know who wanted to have me sh0t and why… It’s still a misery to me” I said
“We’ll talk about it later so that Tina won’t hear of it and plea-se continue pla-ying along as Iris’s b©yfri£ndfor the meantime” Glenda said
“I wish I am really her b©yfri£nd” I thought
“Alright Glenda!” I said
“And you’re not going right?” Glenda asked
“No! I want to be here when she’ll get up” I said and we laughed.
“Aunt Glenda! plea-se I don’t wanna go home without Iris! I’ll sleep here” Tina said as she walked into the ward.
“No Tina! You have to go to school tomorrow and you know your sister Iris will be mad if you don’t” Glenda said
“plea-se aunt Glenda I don’t….” Tina said as I smiled at her stubbornness.
“Surely stubbornness runs in their blood! Iris is so stubborn too” I thought
“No way Tina! We are going home” Glenda said as she dragged her away.
“Good night Tina” I said as she waved at me with a smile.
I pe-cked Iris’s cheek softly.
Cas-sandra’s Pov:
I gulped down the glas-s of whiskey.
“You idiot! I never told you to shoot Chris, I said you should abduct him” I yelled as I landed a dirty sl@p on Jack’s face.
“Am sorry ma’am but it wasn’t even Chris that we sh0t” He said
“Then who?” I asked angrily
“His girlfriend….” Jack said and I bur-st into laughter.
“Girlfriend? The Chris I know doesn’t have a girlfriend cos he’s a pla-yboy” I said
“But he was on a d@t£ with her and she took the bullet for him” Jack said and my eyes wi-de-ned in shock. This story is written by Pinky Preshy Chioma.
