(She’s too Perfect)
By: Faith Lucky.
I ruffled my hair as mum kept whining from behind.
“I’m talking to you, Rex! Don’t you dare keep me quiet!” She rasped, increasing my anger.
“Damn it! Mom, what do you want me to say? Huh? What else do you want me to say?” I turned to her and asked.
“Was your brother telling the truth? Did you really s£nd thvgs to beat him up?”
“Well, what if I say yes? What difference will it make??”
She scoffed in shock.
“You’re unbelievable, Rex. I can’t believe you’d stoop so low to hurt your own brother”.
“Really? I’m hurting him? How about the times he’s hurt me huh? Have you even noticed??
“Of course, not! You only care about him and no one else. Seriously mum, you’re not the only one who’s tired because I’m tired as well.” I stated angrily and stormed out of the house.
I was standing at the balcony, staring into space with a drink in my hand when my phone [email protected] in my pocket.
I brou-ght it out and discovered it was dad.
Yeah – perfect.
I took in a de-ep breath before picking it up.
☎Noah” he called immediately.
☎Noah. Can you hear me?”
☎I can hear you, dad” I replied, itching my heart.
☎Good. Where are you? I nee-d you to come over to the house”.
☎Seriously dad, not to sound rude, but I’m not coming back there – at least not now. I can’t risk seeing that animal!”
☎Noah! That’s your brother you’re talking about!”
☎Yeah – the same brother that paid some hoodlums to attack and beat me up mercilessly!!”
For a moment, he was silent.
☎Tell me, what really happened between you two? What’s causing the hate?”
☎Seriously dad, I don’t know. You can talk to him if you want to because as far as I’m concerned, I don’t have any issues with Rex. So, maybe you should sit him down and speak some s-en-se into his numb skull”.
☎Noah” he called after a moment of silence,
“plea-se, just do me this favor and come over to the house. Let’s have a chat at least”.
I emptied the drink in my glas-s and scoffed.
☎I’ll try, dad. But definitely not today. And not anytime soon”,I added yhr last [email protected] in a whisper
☎Fine. I’m okay with it. See you soon.”
☎Hold on” I st©pped him from ending the call.
☎What is it?” He asked when I dallied.
☎Um…I….actually wanted to ask a question”. I started, wondering why I was suddenly feeling twitchy.
Gosh! What is wrong with me?
☎Go on, Noah. I’m listening” he prodded and I sighed.
☎About your condition – asking me to get married before gaining possession of the company; I just wanted to ask – can it be anyone at all? Like…anyone of my choice, right?”
I could feel him smile from where he stood.
☎Well – of course, anyone of your choice. But she must be a decent lady. I wouldn’t want you getting stuck to a who-re who would only get you into problems” he replied and I smiled and nodded like he could see me.
☎Hold on; why are you asking Noah? Is there someone?” He asked and I smiled again.
☎Don’t worry dad. We’ll talk later. Bye” I replied and ended the call before he could say any other word.
Hmm. I think I feel better now.
I sat next to Marcus in the car as we pla-yed and k!$$£d at the backseat where we sat.
The song from the car’s FM was pretty loud and I kept screaming and dancing crazily to it.
“Come on Charlene. You might hurt Yourself” Marcus laughed and pu-ll-ed me down by the [email protected]!st and we k!$$£d again.
After a while, we got to our destination – his destination as the car [email protected]£ to a st©p
‘Stay here, Charlene. I’ll be quic-k. And when I’m done, we leave for dinner, okay?” He told me as the door was opened for him.
“Okay sure. I’ll be waiting”. I replied and he k!$$£d me again and finally left the car.
I smiled and relaxed my back, still enjoying the melody of the music being pla-yed.
The driver was still seated in the car.
Now…I think this is the perfect time.
We were parked by the roadside and if I could st©p out now, luckily, I could run away.
I fixed my eyes on the driver, wishing he could just vanish or something.
But then, I got to realize I was only wasting my time because there was no way he was leaving that seat.
So…summoning all the courage I nee-ded, I opened the door and jumped out of the car.
“Charlene?” He called.
“Hey; where are you going?”
Without any hesitation, I took off, running like a [email protected]@n-t in the Olympic race.
I heard him call from behind but didn’t turn to look as the only thing on my mind at that moment was surviving.
The umpteen number of people on the road were astonished and I made sure I took a path that’d be difficult to get chased by the car.
After having a boring day at school, I returned home, feeling so tired.
I didn’t find Noah in the sitting room and couldn’t check on him in his room. So, I just went straight to my room, took a shower, changed into something simple simple went downstairs for dinner.
I was damn so hungry and planned on slee-ping as soon as I was done.
The dining was alre-ady set and I served the meals I wanted and settled down to eat.
I ate hungrily and rushed my food, but not until Noah showed up.
Oops! I guess he’s been in his room all these while.
I reduced my pace of eating and lowered my head.
“Hi” I said shyly and he didn’t say a word until he took a seat, facing me.
“Hi” he finally muttered.
“How was school today?”
“Um…it was fine. Thanks” I tucked my hair behind my ears and continued eating.
He reached for an empty plate and served himself.
Oops! I guess I should’ve helped him with that.
“Your guardians…they didn’t show up in school for any reason, right?” He asked and I shook my head.
I didn’t want to mention ru-by and Tammy’s [email protected]
He started eating and for a moment, we were silent.
“Maxine” he finally called, working with his knife and fork on his meat.
“Can I ask a question?”
I couldn’t tell why, but that alone made me nervous. What question could it be?
“Um…yes, of course” I replied and he dropped his cutleries to stare properly at me.
“If you were being asked for it, would you get married at this age?” He asked and I almost fell off my seat.
By: Faith Lucky.
I looked at him, surprised.
Why’s he asking me such question?
I twitched and tried avoiding his gaze.
“Maxine?” He called and I looked up at him again.
I itched the back of my nape.
Hold on; why’s he really asking me such question?
And…what do I have to say?
Am I really re-ady for it? Am…I re-ady to get married?
“Well…it depends” I replied simply and picked up my fork.
“it depends?” He asked.
“Well…normally, I’d want to finish up my education”. I told him and he nods.
“But..what if its the right person? And the right time?” He asked and I itched my nape again.
“The right person? And the right time? Well, if its indeed true, then I’ll get married. I mean, I see no reason not to”.
“Hmm” he hummed and bent towards his food.
He picked at it, gulped down some wine and looked at me again.
“Why didn’t you tell me Rex was here? And he had threaten you with a gun?” He asked and my heart skipped.
Oh my God!!
I looked at him in shock. How the hell did he know?
“S…sir?” I Started helplessly, completely abacked
How did he know? Did Rex confess or what?
“Why did you keep it a secret, Maxine?” He asked again and I swallowed ha-rd .
I paused and bit myl-ips.
“I’m…I’m sorry. I…I just didn’t want to talk about it” I finally said dolefully.
He stared at me for a while without saying a word and after which, took in more wine and stood up.
“Thanks for your time” he muttered calmly and left.
“So, what did she say after that?” Mum asked as we all had dinner in the dinette.
“What do you expect her to say, mum? Aside weeping and all that?” Tammy replied and mum chuckled.
“That little bit-ch is also annoying. I can’t even fathom the joy she derives being close to Noah. I’ll make sure I make that school a living hell for her till she returns home”,I said loathfully and mum laughed.
“What I don’t un-derstand is why the hell Noah picked interest in her” dad said.
“I think there’s something fishy and I’m determined to find out”.
Hmm. That’s true. What’s their secret?
“By the way mum, is Oscar really coming back tomorrow?” ru-by asked, also reminding me of it.
“Yes, yes, dear. Definitely” mum replied, smiling.
“Awwn! I really can’t wait to see him!” ru-by [email protected] her hand and said and I smiled.
I sat in my room, thinking seriously about the whole thing – Maxine.
Judging from her reply, she’s re-ady to get married now.
Probably, if I ask her about it, she might agree. Right?
I sat in front of the system and watched her [email protected] on the be-d.
Hmm. Watching her for the past few days, she seems really cool.
I’ve been monitoring her lifestyle, how she acts even in pri-vate and…obviously, I think she’s a nice person.
Well…just in case you’re wondering, this is actually the reason I planted a [email protected]£ra in her room. I wanted to see the kind of person she is even when she’s alone. And so far, I think she’s a nice person.
So…I think this it.
Hold on; would I be doing the right thing? Asking her to marry me?
But…she’s pretty, perfect dancer, lovely and polite; what else do I nee-d huh??
I think this is it.
Maxine is probably the right person for this.
But first, I’ll make her fall in love with me.
I’ll make her fall in love with me; then ask her to marry me.
And I’ll do all these un-der a couple of days because father’s deadline is fast approaching.
A smile crept into my face as the plan seemed perfect to me.
Suddenly, a knock interrupted my lovely thoughts as I stared at the door.
“Who’s it?” I asked, still on my seat and the door opened slightly, revea-ling a maid.
“Good evening, sir” she greeted in obeisance.
“Sorry to disturb you, but there’s a strange lady out there requesting to see ma’am Maxine and I decided to alert you first”.
“A strange lady?” I repeated.
“Um..she said her name is Charlene and its urgent”.
